Sorry if i put this in the wrong form i did look and wasn't sure but it would be a suggestion, wouldn't it be good if we could get that ship in STO ? the USS Vengeance
"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them." -Thomas Marrone
tl;dr version is that Cryptic only has access to "classic" Trek material, not anything from the new films. The new films are owned by Paramount, not CBS, so Cryptic would have to negotiate a whole 'nother license agreement to use the new designs.

The Red Matter Capacitor, the Romulan facial tattoo, Zach Quinto voice over, Nimoy voiceover, the entire storyline being linked to the Hobus super nova ...
There's quite a bit of this game that's linked to the Star Trek 2009 film.

Yeah so earth is used in the new movie too, hence it should not be used in STO?
What's your point?
If it comes FROM the movie it can't be used.
If it is IN the movie but appeared somewhere else before, it can be used.
Yeah so earth is used in the new movie too, hence it should not be used in STO?
You're over simplifying it. The intro to the game, the Nimoy voice over, the ENTIRE thing about Hobus is lifted straight from the movie. It IS the plot of the movie. That's a bit more specific and JJ centric than saying "earth is used in the game."

It's the plot from the countdown comics.
It is used in both the film and the game.
That you have not read the comic and thus associate it exclusively with the film is not my problem.

Oh my god. The Countdown Comics are a countdown to what? Tell me, what is it the countdown to?
It's like you're trying to tell me that Luke planning to join the Imperial Navy with Biggs is from the Marvel Comics Star Wars comic. And not the movie.
I would be happy to see the ship in STO, the JJ cynics can scream at me to their hearts content but the Vengeance is one damn fine looking ship.
But, as many have already mentioned, copyright ownership and other legalities mean it'll never happen. I think the closest you'll get to it would be to grab yourself the fleet assault cruiser refit, stick to the 'unique' model and have the dark skin texture (4th I believe).
Sorry if i put this in the wrong form i did look and wasn't sure but it would be a suggestion, wouldn't it be good if we could get that ship in STO ? the USS Vengeance
NO, no not again -pulls hair and runs away screaming-
For what it's worth, the JJ verse won't make it into STO, just as the plots from the ST novels won't appear.
We've got three distinct "universes" now that the DTI hasn't neatly wrapped up all these temporal incursions: (Read "The needs of the many" to learn that they put their best Agent in the looney bin, so they aren't going to fix it...)
JJ verse: happened when the Jellyfish & Narada left the prime verse in the ST 11 comic prequel. STO has no knowledge of what happened in that timeline...or that our Spock is still in one piece. As far as we know, Spock sacrificed himself, and since our timeline didn't appear to get screwed up, we think his sacrifice worked.
Novel verse: the Borg were rendered harmless by the Caeliar. (Spelling on an iPad...so forgive any errors...too tired to fix continual autocorrects!) contrary to the events of STO, so while we get a Luna and Vesta, the specific plots won't come over.
STO verse: what we're playing...where, apparently, it is normal for Starfleet to incorporate Dominion ships, and carriers make for a more Star Wars feel (fighters) than Trek (capital ships).
I'm guessing that that the ones controlling the respective licenses don't have any incentive to play nice and say, "Hey, your ideas are cool, we'll retcon our stuff to your version."
I am hoping for a Starship wih lil pew pews all over the saucer section and a beer refinery as engineering.....on 2nd thought all the Scoots and Irishmen would be restricted from being engineers and any other drinkinig cultures....
Today we fight the GAULS......monstrous and HAIRY beyond reason.
Sorry if i put this in the wrong form i did look and wasn't sure but it would be a suggestion, wouldn't it be good if we could get that ship in STO ? the USS Vengeance
Cryptic does not own the rights to anything from the JJ Trek Series, because it is not owned by CBS.
Neither the Vengeance nor the JJ Enterprise will appear in STO, barring a miracle.
Oh my god. The Countdown Comics are a countdown to what? Tell me, what is it the countdown to?
It's like you're trying to tell me that Luke planning to join the Imperial Navy with Biggs is from the Marvel Comics Star Wars comic. And not the movie.
Luke planning to join the Imperial Navy was first mentioned in the movie.
The Hobus supernova was first mentioned in the comic.
Anything that's first mentioned or show in the JJ Abrams movies is the exclusive intellectual property of Paramount/JJ Abrams, and can't be used by CBS or Cryptic without expressed (read: paid for with money) permission.
Paramount/JJ Abrams do not like CBS, because CBS refused to stop selling merchandise from the original movies and TOS, so it's unlikely they'll ever grant permission to use JJ Trek assets, even for money.

Let me spell this out for you as simply as possible: The STORY for the Countdown Comic comes from Abrams, Kurtzman and Orci. The comic book is a movie tie-in like those drinking glasses my friend got from Burger King. The writer of the comic worked for Kurtzman and Orci. The idea for the comic, and all of the tie-in to the film in that comic, comes from a meeting with Abrams, Kurtzman and Orci.
This is all hashed out in published interviews, hyping the film and the comic.
This game uses that story to introduce players to Star Trek Online.
That story comes from Abrams.
Here, if you don't believe me, believe Memory Alpha.

It's like you're trying to tell me that Luke planning to join the Imperial Navy with Biggs is from the Marvel Comics Star Wars comic. And not the movie.
Long story short, they got special permission to use material from the comic itself, as part of the original tie in deal for the '09 movie, but they do not have permission to use anything directly from the movie itself.
Copyright and Intellectual Property law is very convoluted and complex in this country. Having access to one source in an IP does not equate to having access to the entire IP.

i'm pretty sure they have the rights to the prequel comic of the jj trek...since that is placed somewhere in the 2380ties they can't ignore it anyway if STO takes place in 2409.
and "entire" storyline is a little far fetched considering that there is one mission that takes you to hobus...
sure romulus is destroyed, but that is a consequenz of the period STO is set in.
i think dstahl was very precise when he wrote that they can't use anything that is in the 2 new movies...however the comic is NOT "in" the movies...so it is "fair game" as he stated it.

And this has precisely what bearing on its legal status?
None.
Oh my god. The Countdown Comics are a countdown to what? Tell me, what is it the countdown to?
Considering the amount of time that is spent trying to find a solution to the Hobus problem...a countdown to a tragedy.
Also, the fact that the last countdown comics is released days before the movie makes it pretty clear it's not a countdown to the movie.
It's like you're trying to tell me that Luke planning to join the Imperial Navy with Biggs is from the Marvel Comics Star Wars comic. And not the movie.
Did you know Han shot first in those?
Here's a little bit you might want to consider: how many times does the word "Hobus" appear in the 2009 movie?
That's information from the comics, not the movie.
Just like the Vault.
pictures i just looked up on the net show is as a cross between a sovvie and connie, very unimaginative.. what would be the point to bring it in? i would rather see the connie be made a t5 before i see TRIBBLE from jjcrapverse brought in polluting the game with that garbage.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

Might happen at some point if all parties involved agree they can make a fast buck out of it.
Of course it would have to come in a JJ-lockbox 1% change of USS Vengeance 99% chance of self righteous nerd rage.
