What would you like to see after LoR?

ccarmichael07ccarmichael07 Member Posts: 755 Arc User
With the launch of LoR right around the corner, let's talk about the future. What "pet projects" would you like to see the Devs focusing on after LoR drops?

My personal requests would be (in no particular order):

- Interiors: Would like to see a quality pass on the existing bridges and interior layouts, some scaling done to match the new "possible scale" established by the TOS and Belfast interiors, as well as the addition of some new and oft requested interiors such as TNG, VOY, Star Trek I-VI era, etc. Additionally, it would be nice to have a bit more functionality added to the interiors, perhaps some mini-daily missions (not duty officer) which could be completed for dilithium, which could include some random puzzle scenarios in the Engineering & Science disciplines, showing your surgeon's hands down in the Medical Bay, or Tactical Training exercises on the Phaser Range or in the Holodeck.

- Customization / Quality of Life Pass: There have been many long standing requests for focus on a variety of topics that fall under this rather broad category. For example, uniform tweaks and cleanup, the addition of player requested vanity titles, fixing the system to allow us to set how we want to be addressed (rank) in game by the NPCs, ship skin fixes, etc.

- Toggles: We have the ability to turn on/off the display of weapons and armor, I'd like to see this taken to another level, where we can toggle the TRON-esque holo-thingamabobs on or off of our weapons. Additionally, I'd like to see us be able to choose the graphics for our Kits, rather than being pre-determined by the kit itself. Some of the lower level kits have nice, understated equipment looks that I'd like to be able to use through the length of my career without eventually looking like a mutated Whiplash from Iron Man 2 by the time I hit Admiral ranks.

- Mini-Fleet play: So we have Admirals in game (pretty much everyone is an Admiral nowdays) how about following up on some of the good suggestions from the players for utilizing our old ships in a Tactical Wing type setup where we can do missions in space with an "away team" comprised of some of our old ships, being commanded by Bridge Officers who we have "promoted" to the Command Level?

- Fleet Cruiser Retrofit: We have a Fleet version of the other Tier 2 ships (Nova & Sabre) it's time for a Fleet Cruiser. Even if it only uses the Vesper/Excalibur skins and locks out the Constitution skin to avoid the "Tier 5 Connie" scenario. With the Nova and Sabre both being 40 years older than the Excalibur, it makes no sense for them to have Tier 5 versions, while the Excalibur doesnt.

So those are the big items on my wish list. What are you wishing for? :P

I think STO is in serious need of new end-game material. More FEs, more STFs, more Dailies, etc. I'm not a huge fan of the Rep grind. I'd prefer to see end-game with a bit more story.

I believe the intent of the next Season is to start work on PvP, though - of course they've said that a lot of times and its never happened. :)
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Regrade to captains (no more admirals )

Changes to fleet starbases to allow them to be converted to romulan npcs throughout

Ship crew uniforms and species limiters

A new FE series about the Undine given from a KDF pov that leads into a new STF or two.

Simple missions that highlight some of the other races ingame like, Andorians, Orions, Gorn and the like.
Something not human klingon or romulan.
    Leonard Nimoy, Spock.....:(

    Good suggestion here!

Yes, I'd definitely like to see that as part of an Interiors revamp.

...MORE PLOT BASED CONTENT. Ships, lockboxes and other fluff may be nice for some, but without actually story to back it up...there is no point. I like what I saw on tribble with the Romulans/Remans...so I decided to give Cryptic the benefit of the doubt and bought the Legacy Pack. Hopefully...my trust isn't misplaced. Cryptic...don't let me down. I want my Star Trek fix to be filled with more than fluff ships and occasional JJ-verse movies. Bring back the ToS/Tng/Ds9/Voy/Ent feel that many of us miss. With all the revenue you've gotten from lockboxes and the like...there is little excuse for you to go on vacation from plot. So after LoR...I want plot. And plenty of it.

Why don't they make sure they have a reason to overhaul interiors first, like more boarding missions that require those interiors.

If you expect them to completely overhaul or even make new interactive bridges from scrap, then you can bet they will be in the Zen store and pricey.

I don't mind if they put new bridges and interiors in the store. They should be paid for the work they do, especially if it is good. (like the TOS interior)

However, they have some interiors in the store which need alot of TLC, and it's time for us to see some return on investment. The past year has been focused on revenue generation with lockboxes galore, and the expansion, so it would be nice to see Cryptic show some care for their existing in-game assets and do some of the clean-up and maintenance work which has been long overdue.

And I agree, there needs to be more things to do aboard ship. Your idea for boarding missions is a good one, along with some dailies and maybe a few story missions too.

Graphical assets can be worked on just about anytime. It's nice to have things to stand around and look at while gawking in amazement at the beauty. BUT...

Focused story content like mission arcs, FEs and STFs, take a tad bit more work and should be the meat and potatoes of every season update. By giving the players something to actually DO in the game you keep their interest for more than just the 10mins it takes to stroll thru a ship or base interior.

We got the Andorian escorts for Feds earlier this year but where is a mission arc involving the Andorian people?

Storied missions keep people involved in the game because it gives them something to do with all of the fancy graphical assets.

As much as I detest the STFs for what they've done to the community of STO, the current group of missions needs to be expanded in order to provide some reason to use all of the high end epic gear and ships.

TLDR - I would like to see more storied mission arcs, featured episodes and some new STF playgrounds in each season.

That's a fair position, and I agree story is important.

However, let's not dismiss that nearly all of LoR is dedicated to story and something new to do. It might not be the story that everyone wants, or is interested in, but it is story none the less.

However, many of the graphical asset issues have been around dating back as far as launch, and they keep getting put off and ignored. While Cryptic's new stuff meets a new level of quality, the old stuff in many cases doesn't, and that creates an illusion of 2 games, rather than 1 unified game, or a game full of little spots of awesome scattered here and there, in a universe of un-awesome. Taking some time to apply some TLC to the older assets would make the game better as a whole, and provide some much needed polish which makes an impact on everyone, including new players.

    All of this plus:

Variation in new STF enemies (Tal Shiar, Tholians, Iconians, w/e. Just something other than always Borg.)

Pet inventory system/UI for tribbles/vanity pets (CO has had this forever. we NEED this in STO.)

On customization: Ability to choose weapon skins. I love the look of the lower level disruptors but do not like the higher level skins. Let me pick the low level ones!

    Science skill review.

Some sort of dynamic content/territory control for pve and pvp. (Been thinking of writing up a proposal for this...)

I'll probably think of more later, but those are my big ones that I'd like to see.

Quite simply, I would like to see content that progresses us beyond 2409. We've been stuck in one year for too long as it is.

Then again, for the amount of work put in to a Featured Episode, most of us just play once and never touch it again, which makes it pretty unprofitable where design time is concerned, IMO. Pity about that.

I *hate* *hate* *hate* this idea. It really goes against the crux of what made Star Trek - one ship (or station), one Captain, one crew.

Plus, I don't want to play an Admiral. I want to play - and I think most players agree here - a Captain.

I'd like to see a bunch of missions that take place inside our own ships. They can be solo or group based. If group based, you just call for help, group up, and the other people can beam onto your ship to help.

Maybe a crew member goes crazy and takes over engineering. Or maybe a simple Klingon or Borg invasion.

Or perhaps an old enemy has overtaken your ship and is planning an assault on Earth's space dock.

It could be neat as some group members could battle your ship in space combat (of course, only able to disable it) while other group members are inside the ship, battling their way to the bridge.

I just think since 90% of Star Trek takes place inside starships, it'd be nice to have some adventures inside our own.

Short term: adjust the text in Romulan missions so that they stop referring to you as a Starfleet officer/Klingon warrior, fix bugs/add assets in the Foundry.
Long term: exploration revamp, better PvP, more Foundry updates, more Romulan and Reman ships, mirror universe FE series, more content for all.

Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

Interior revamp. Customisable quarters (from the decor to even what we see out of the window perhaps), customisable sickbay (I want a pod with a pickled person in it :P), customisable NPC-crew uniform (you guys managed it for the TOS interior; why not the Belfast?).

An astrometrics room that has library-like access to every charted planet and lifeform in the game [none of the image links work anymore] - the information we see when we fly past planets in sector space, collated, and new info on the various lifeforms found on or around those planets, from sehlats to gekli.

Rare new lifeforms that can only be found by exploring the various nebulae, which, when found, would be added to the database.

Until this game has territory-based PvP (ground and space), everything remains pointless. So I'd tackle that asap.

After that, exploration and crafting revamp. Throw in new PvE FEs whenever you can.

      After LoR,

I would like to see a complete re-vamp of the crafting system to make it worthwhile again in the ways that I have suggested previously, let us choose the modifiers to add and the recipes change depending on the type, rarity and modifier you have selected.

      AND

A total re-vamp of the exploration system. This would include replacing those systems where the planet is brighter than the star. I think we should be able to travel outside of the known sectors (deep space) and this area is all exploration zone. Remove the zones from sector space and make it all one large zone to make it more realistic.

PvP Revamp - While I personally do not like PVP, nor the typical PVP-epeen player, I think the game needs a PVP overhaul which should include DIVESTING THE ROMULANS OF THEIR SLAVE STATUS. I hear three way PvP is a lot more stable/fun then two faction PvP. It would also certainly make the Romulans a far, far better faction when allowed to stand on their own.

Kill D'Tan - Allow players to be RSE. Assassinate him, overthrow him -- make the story in STO more of a living story. If I understand correctly, even ******** killed off Thrall, and then offed his replacement. Add some dynamism to the game that is over three years old, yet still hasn't progressed beyond one year in-game.

Exploration - Do no use Foundry missions. I don't like the missions Brandon approves and it would certainly not get me to Explore knowing I'll be subjected to terrible fan fic. Even though I hate (HATE!) the rep grinds since they're nothing be resource hole nonsense, I would think that that system could be adapted to Exploration as a way to monitor someone's exploration of a sector -- but through their actions. Give each of the exploration sectors a FE-like story, give them character, unique life forms. Look at the DOFF missions for the explore zones, make them something players can actually do. Tie it to Holdings, let Fleets build in the zone....

Make Fleet Holdings Reasonable - Hire a mathematician and create an algorithm to scale holding construction costs based on the number of players in a guilds with a minimum of 5. Keeping costs at a static average of 25 is not just bad design, it's bad social engineering and business -- you do want as many people as possible to buy fleet modules and burn dilithium, right?

Quality of Life Interface upgrades - Either allow modding or fix/upgrade the functionality of basic in-game functions. Mail and exchange are horrible. They need much more functionality and bugfixing to be on par with other games.
      Leave nerfing to the professionals.

If you listen to various Dev interviews, such as Geko's recent podcast, you'll see that they do consider the game having advanced past 2409. You start in in that era but it's somewhat assumed that you go couple of years by the time you're at level 50.

I haven't checked recently, but the mission stardates bore that out originally - the level 50 stardates should quite a bit of time had passed from the level 1 mission stardates. But stardates are a little wonky now due to replay.
Please, no.

I whole-heartedly disagree with this - principally because allowing the Romulan Republic to be a thing is making the story more of a living story. I get that there are plenty of players out there a bit disappointed that we're not going to be playing as the RSE that we know. When it comes to this sort of thing, Cryptic should not be backtracking on their decisions - they need to stick to their guns. If anything needs to happen to the Romulans in the future, it's that they need to be expanded into their own full faction - complete with unique starbases and fleets - rather than simply reverting back to their previous incarnation.

I'm none too happy with the way the Klingons have been portrayed, but i'm not wasting my time asking Cryptic to go back on their decision.

As for what i'd like to see, I personally don't see the point in the PvP overhaul, but that's just me. But I would like to see the next season address both PvP and Endgame PvE, rather than solely focusing on PvP - new PvE's for Omega Force involving you fighting something other than the Borg. The Undine, Elachi or Iconians are prime bad guys to whale on.

I'd also like to see a playable Cardassian faction. But that won't happen for the next 12 months at least.

I would love to see crafting and the exploration sectors revamped.

Crafting is rather boring, you stand there, input pieces, wait 30 seconds and poof, you have an item.

Explore, doesn't feel like you're exploring anything.
