The power struggle between Donatra and Tal'Aura continued for about a year until finally in December of 2380, Donatra consolidated her powerbase and made a move against the Star Empire under Tal'Aura; on Achernar Prime she declared the existence of the Imperial Romulan State, with herself as its Empress. Using the parts of the military loyal to her, she took control of Achernar and several other planets, including Xanitla, Ralatak, and Virinat. These worlds were the primary agricultural planets of the Star Empire, which effectively meant that Donatra now effectively held the Empire's food supply hostage. The Federation and Imperial Romulan State established ambassadorships to one another's states, with Donatra appointing former warbird commander Jovis as her ambassador to the Federation. During the Borg invasion of that year, Jovis commented to Federation President Nanietta Bacco that Donatra wished to open a new era of peace with the Federation. The strength of that desire was demonstrated a short while later when the Imperial State warbird Verithrax sacrificed itself to save the Federation planet Ardana from Borg attack. We managed to establish a foothold on the test server today with our many toons around the teens low 20s and created the IRF there as well!
What we did not manage was to survive a fleet action for the starbase defense, luckily the server gods deemed us worth saving and killed all interaction with the game itself with 1 minute left to go in the mission...and 2 waves to finish off still..

In Romulan society, military/political rank influences social standing. Because Romulans were members of a militant civilization, who considered defending the Romulan Empire and their own personal honor of foremost importance, military service and its accompanying rank were decisive factors in determining social eminence.
However, while the military played an important role in Romulan society, it was the Romulan Senate that controls the government.
At one point in history, Romulus was a sovereign nation ruled by an Empress, as indicated by Q. By the 23rd century, the highest position of power was held by the Praetor, who presided over the Romulan Senate. The Praetor headed the Continuing Committee, which was comprised of the Empire's most elite individuals, who made decisions of the utmost importance. By the 24th century, the government of Romulus was dependent upon the Tal Shiar, the Romulan secret police, to maintain order and stability among both civilians and the military. The Tal Shiar was known for its brutal tactics, which included routine kidnapping, torture, and assassination. Many Romulans fear even expressing dissenting opinions as not to spark the interest of the Tal Shiar. There were also indications that tension existed between the military and the Tal Shiar.
The Imperial Romulan Fleet is never offline! 24/7 dedicated support, friendly and knowledgeable command, fully developed and integrated website and forums with 99% update and 1% downtime when Romulan Ale is involved :P
