I was killed twice today in Elite Infected Conduit. Both times by some invisible attack from the tactical cube at the end. Shields full, hull full, insta-dead. What is this?
Ok, so it's a bug. But now I am wondering what the weapon is that bypasses shields and brings hull to 0 instantly. Is that a bug also?
From what my personal experience I'd say it's a HY Plasma Torpedo (which explains why it follows and kills players waaayyyy out of range of the enemy ships).
And it does not really bypass shields: it just does that much insane damage.
Not too long ago I was in Khitomer Accord (Elite) and one of my allies fired a HY Plasma at the first Tac Cube in that mission.
The Cube returned fire with its own HY Plasma and the two torpedes collided about 2 km off my starboard.
My ship exploded with a giant red 250,000 over my ship's hull.
It's "just" the bleedthrough (in my case through a MkXII KHG shield) that kills you.
The weapon doesn't really need to bypass shields for that.
Learn to look at combat logs and parsers and you'll have your answer. 90%+ of the time it's just a normal plasma torpedo that crits for an insane amount of damage, and you don't see it because it's just a small green thing.
Frankly I don't believe in invisible torps, I've heard people moaning about them but in 500+ runs of ESTFs I've never actually caught one on a combat log so I'm inclined to go with Cryptic on this one.
Ok, hope they tone that TRIBBLE down before I have an aneurism during a fight
This looks like where I got killed the second time:
[Combat (Self)] Tactical Cube's Plasma Torpedo dealt 5018 (24228) shield damage to you.
[Combat (Self)] Tactical Cube deals 216 (526) Plasma Damage to you with Plasma Torpedo.
[Combat (Self)] Tactical Cube deals 19907 (50564) Kinetic Damage to you with Plasma Torpedo.
Ok, hope they tone that TRIBBLE down before I have an aneurism during a fight

These are tiny, brace for impact and polarize hull more! :P
Plus a Mk XII monotanium and you should be fine mate
No reason to brace for impact or polarize if nothing is coming toward you that you can see. Or should I just be doing that randomly? What about during cool-down?
I also have my settings such that nothing in the field of battle is unlabeled. I see the torpedoes all the time and shoot them down but sometimes they are invisible. I also have my six carrier pets on intercept and they don't see to see it either.

Believe me, if you are 12 km away from a cube you notice it, if some kind of glowing ball of death follows you.

Invisitorps have been around for a long time. I've been nuked by them plenty of times. Drives me nuts to get a shield arc down then kaboom. Even on an Assault Cruiser Refit. Just keep a full stack of each type of component in your bank and repair after you get nuked. Odds are... the Invisitorps will stay for a long time.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

it is not a hy torpedo, if it was it would say so in the log. its a normal, unbuffed run of the mil fired every 5 seconds or w/e the cd is plasma torpedo that's doing a ridiculous amount of damage. there is no shooting down involved. Cryptic did stop the gates and standard cubes and spheres from being able to do this, but tac cubes weren't adjusted.
It is a stupid-simple mechanic put in by devs who can't/won't bother to create real challenge. Without it STFs would be roflstomped even more so than they are now. I doubt this will be fixed ... ever.

If I was an incandescent ball of plasma I believe my response would be "go to hell" ... if I was...

Umm cryptic can say what they want but it does exist. I was in a elite stf 15 meters out from the tact cube, my ship was about 15 percent hull, and shields were mostly down. Then came boom, my ship exploded. From what I could see no weapon what so ever. This has actually been happening allot lately. Your doing fine then all of a sudden out of no where your hull is down to nothing along with your shields. Something is causing this in the space stfs. Some of it I know is players getting too close to the gates. In my case I stay clear of those things if I can help it. I know the difference between a gate chewing me up and near instant death, or death.
I also have my settings such that nothing in the field of battle is unlabeled. I see the torpedoes all the time and shoot them down but sometimes they are invisible. I also have my six carrier pets on intercept and they don't see to see it either.
It's a crit from a regular plasma torpedo. Regular torpedoes aren't laballed, like HY ones are. They get lost in the scatter lots of times.

Tried getting the optional on Infected Ground or just doing Cure Ground? Those final bosses pack one helluva punch, so there's no roflstoping those. Can't even finish Infected Ground unless you got a decent team and coordination. Armek... I have yet to beat him without a badass Medic Tank keeping him in melee.
But the invisitorps do exist! I am certain every one of us has fallen victim to their ninja ways at least once. The question is... how to defeat these powerful uberweapons that cause so much frustration...

Is that all? I get that at least once a day when I run 'all day'
Mostly it's from the Gates though, maybe a few from a cube. I seem to think that misterde3 in post #5 is right as you see from your post #7. Although I haven't seen any of the damage go beyond 60k or so...
The damage from the invisible torp scales randomly, which is why people have a hard time spotting it in their parsers unless it hits really hard. Sometimes it'll hit like a normal torp does when it crits, and another times it'll hit you so hard you wake up in the mirror universe. When its invisible its tough to plan for it. My rule of thumb is that when i'm caught in a tractor beam my first ability I hit is brace for impact.
Another damage scaling weapon they have is a green cannon shot that'll knock a dent in your shields with one hit, or eliminate a shield facing all together. Sometimes its fired back to back and other times its not. I've had this cannon knock a shield facing down before and had my raw hull hit with one of those planet killing invisible torps. Lets just say that the mirror version of me isn't as cool as I thought he'd be.

Have you ever been in a match where the team uses the "pulsewave circle" method? It works best with two or more tactical officers, but it can be done without tactical officers. The method involves getting armek though a phase as quickly as possible via pulsewave shots. There is also the one hit kill method. Try getting a team of five tactical officers together, throw 5 copies of fire on my mark onto armek, and hit him with a super buff* from the fire team kit. He will die before he has a chance to say "We are the borg" a second time.
*For those that don't know, the tactical "super buff" is ambush + suppressing fire + battle strategies + target optics. After this, throw the plasma grenade from the kit (Grenades aren't "working as intended", they don't burn ambush on use). Next, press the aim key (default key X) and fire the secondary fire on the pulsewave. If tactical initiative is up, this attack can be repeated three times over the init's 20 second duration.

[Combat (Self)] Tactical Cube deals 19907 (50564) Kinetic Damage to you with Plasma Torpedo.

Just having a very quick look at your numbers. Assuming that the 19907 figure wasn't capped at the amount of hull you had left when you were hit, you have a hull kenetic damage resistance of 12.7%. ( 1 - ((24228 + 19907) / 50564) )
So your shields actually absorbed an potential 27757 hull damage for 5018 damage to your shields. That means your shields had a kenetic damage resistance of 553% which is pretty good. You just didn't have enough shield left when the torp hit. You would have needed 8230 shield capacity on that facing for you to only receive the 10% bleedthrough.
its a very fast tiny green dot on my screen that does it.. you cant shoot it or target it..
it deals about 150k dmg in one shot with full shields..
tac cubes shoot them without cool downs it seems..
[12:35] Vessel Two of Two Unimatrix 01 deals 225232 (271723) Plasma Damage to you with Plasma Lance.
[12:44] Vessel One of Two Unimatrix 01 deals 1019527 (1157678) Kinetic Damage to you with Plasma Energy Bolt Explosion.

this, you can actually learn to watch when its coming through, but is awfully hard, that torp is an aberration that shouldn't exist, its a high yield torp that doesn't behave like a high yield one does, heavy plasma is supposed to be a giant ball not a regular plasma torp that happens to do as much damage as a heavy plasma does.
and it does have a cooldown, i would say its around 10-15 secs to shoot one.
also that torp is possible to tank, but you gotta predict when the borg are going to throw one at you sometimes.

Oh wait, invisatorpodeath does not exist! You guys must be crazy! Cryptic says there is no such thing so there is no such thing.
