...I was the last guy alive in IGE duking it out with the queen, sweeping re-spawns from my corner...had her down to maybe another couple of shots when....blam...disconnect
It doesn't take that long to replace a switch or a router lmao. Sure replacing a hard drive then restoring the data but nothing else would take this long to replace and start back up. Even if something in the game server died, it doesn't take hours to replace, lets say a GFX card, then reboot the computer and start loading up all the files.
Only if you don't have to go looking for a store that is open after 9pm to replace a part. :P
neverwinter = BOYCOTT just like coca cola sneaking Aspartame in their 16 once bottles at one time so i boycott them and soon to be PEPSI with their PEPSI MAX with you guessed it ASPARTAME so the moral of the story neverwinter = Aspartame
Hello PWE, I want to play a game. It's called STO but since it's broken I have an alternative. In one of your NW servers lies the key to your freedom, you have five minutes before the mob with pitchforks gets back from home depot. You can either dismantle Nw, or become Frankenstein...Let the games begin.
I am officially jonesing for my STO fix now. The agonizing part of this for me is realizing how terribly addicted I have become. I'm glad this has happened. I'll be checking in to rehab tomorrow.
I understand about fine tuning the game, it would be good to get enough zen to get extra characters on account or the Vesta Class ship and the KDF equal.

they do not run on a "single" computer....it's probably a blade cluster....and sometimes when the "main" server goes kia...it can take alot more with it.....but Bran said it was a hardware problem....we just have no idea what they hardware is setup like...many different hardware configuations they could be using....be patient...lol
"If everyone used Macs, we'd be working on how to get to Alpha Centauri rather than how to get to Mars."
Because of brief and wildly infrequent downtime? That seems reasonable.
Thanks for the expansion that had "as much content as the last"
9 Episodes = 30+ episodes...?

It's pronounced "S.T.O." "Stow" sounds idiotic! lol
Lucky for me i just put all of mine on 8-20 hour assignments.
3 more hours and the first will be complete
I'm not 1 for crying over freebies, but some small token of appreciation would be nice, for those of us waiting 5 hours now. Not that we will get it from this developer...i just can't see it.
freaking out....nope...been sitting here since 6 pm PST....the servers are dead Jim....the login server appears to be offline..and without that...no login...sigh
From the post by Flakes, it sounds more like a switch and not server. Since PWE runs all the games, it makes sense that all traffic going to Cryptic games go through the same hardware. For instance, if you're logging into STO or CO, you still travel through certain segments in a network. If a node went down going to Cryptic games, it would effect all games. This is one time I can't blame them. Hardware does go bad. Over heating or just typical life span can eventually kill a switch or router.
I appreciate what you're saying. Of course, hardware sometimes just fails. It's a pain in the fundament but it is inevitable it'll happen occasionally.
I think the issue I have isn't that we've experienced a hardware failure.
It's that the hardware architecture, however configured, has failed in the face of a wholly predictable surge in usage.
NWN is one of those IPs that will inevitably get a lot of attention.
An open beta of such an IP will attract a huge amount of interest, and the traffic that goes with it.
However, if the server hardware has a bottleneck in it that controls the access to all of cryptics games, that part of the hardware is more likely to fail. One could say, predictably so.
Imagine, if you will, a huge facility with many conference rooms and function areas. However it has just one entrance.
Most of the time those rooms are used relatively sparingly, but one day you have an event that gets the worlds notice. Everyone wants to come.
If you don't open more doors into the facility, problems are very likely to occur. There could be catastrophic failure.
Essentially thats what we've had today. A catastrophic failure of, possibly, one component.
However its wiped out access to everything.
Soon we will be getting ready for LoR, an event I'm sure many of us are eagerly anticipating.
If we are still having to access it through the one door, a door we will have to share with NWN, CO and all the other cryptic games, then probems are inevitable. Catastrophic failure more likely.
It is that which concerns me, less about the hardware, more about the foresight of the cryptic technical team.

There's too much hardware in there for that to be Cryptic's server room.
What? I don't even... where to start.

One more reason to have an escort, smaller crew = less chance of this happening, I hate it when they do that.
