    I've spoken to,

    MY brother
My work colleagues who all like trek
    Various member of my fleet
    My mates

Now out of 15 or more people only 1 wants to see the new film the rest can't believe what he and paramount have done to trek and all but 3 said they should have not even gone near what is the best of all trek films. .

So now what you think about the fact that you obviously are not a true trek fan. . .

Man you "Trek" fans are old fogies, whatever ever happened to

    "Exploring Strange New Worlds"

    "Risk is our business"

"Our job is to seek out new and different life forms, *points at movie* well their it sits"
    Jean-Luc Picard

Pretend this new movie is a new lifeform on some distant planet

Watch it before you kill it.

I for one will watch it now more than i did before.

No, the old fogies remember "Spock's Brain", "The Turnabout Intruder", "The Empath", "Elaan of Troysius", and, may all the gods forgive us, "The Omega Glory".

We remember Kirk charging headlong into every lethal challenge the galaxy had to offer, leading every away team himself (and usually taking most of the command crew along) , romancing everything that approximated a human female (although, since this was US television in the '60s, he only bagged a couple of them), and generally living up to every trope TNG fans don't like about STO or the newer Trek movies.

We're willing to give this new flick a chance; yes, my excitement level dropped detectably when this spoiler was given us, but there's still a chance this could be carried off half-decently. (As for the suggestion of Section 31 deciding to use Khan and his people for their own purposes - it's plausible, at least for those of us who haven't seen the movie. Since when has Section 31 sought official Starfleet approval of anything they've done?)

It's the young fogies who think Star Trek is supposed to be all about peaceful exploration and being nice to everybody... :)

The way i see it the quotes from Star Trek 6 Undiscovered Country and 2009 sums up

how i feel about the new Kahn:

    Shatner:

"this is the final cruise of Starship Enterprise under my command, this ship and her
history will shortly be the care of another crew to them and their posterity will we commit our future, they will continue voyages we have begun, journey to all the undiscovered countries, where no man or one, has gone before"

    Pine:

    "Buckle up"

    message:

Remember you roots but try new things.

JJ did not destroy Trek, just a new way for younger people to get into it and ourselves

a new way of looking at it.

Trek is all about different and as Shatner said "People can be very freighted of

    change"

Can I ask you all something that has just come to mind. . .

If the temporal division of Star Fleet scans time etc etc why did they not repair the time line. . . Or is that something we're ment to just throw away because he did when he came up with the story etc etc. .

I for one would hope that all this when it ends, ends with them doing just that so this mess never happened bodywork just a dream. .

just saw a pic of the guy that is playing khan ...lol he looks wimpy ....and redoing this ...
this whole experiment with alternate bs is just stupid and ....it just shows that hollywood has no more talent left ....

honestly unlike some i've enjoyed some of abrams films but i dunno he in my opinion seems ot be where he should be with star wars.

I HONESLTLY think they should have brought in wheddon to try a trek....at least a movie ago you could then say no that didnt work...next....
but now what ....we get a tv series with these dorks in it. YES i mean dorks...they all come across minus macoy as dorks. NAD tough guy sorry NewKirk aint cutting the image of TOS...
heck even a picard or riker woulda been preferable.

ill wait and see what odd buddy says first so i dont waste my cash.....too many times ive been burned....and yea people are getting smarter ...we're not just going cause its trek in name.
YOU have work to get my bucks.
What i don't get is why even do that last film ? NO really time travel as many know is just proof you have no real way to do a story....have no real idea what and where the future is.

Why not a war with the borg , OR THolians or gee it AINT HARD...heck species 8472 ...
SOMETHING NEW! MAYBE from another galaxy like ....maybe a trip to it...via a new way to travel....you ge the idea...this TRIBBLE aint entertaining its fruit a the loop writers making a quick buck.

Seriously, if you were a REAL trek fan you would give it a shot before you call for Ramming Speed like Worf on a blood oath.

The original Kahn had a bad reception early on before people saw it and look what happened, people

say its the BEST film of the franchise.

Come on so its not Shatner banging girls or Kahn's Shakespeare quotes or James Horner's music ,

what do you find attractive in a new Trek film?

Just be happy people give a damn about the franchise..........it could have turned much worse i.e

    Battlestar Galacatica.

JJTrek is actually pretty good if you actually "watch" it, i suspect the same for 2013 Kahn too.

I will be the first to admit im wrong but at least we have a great game, and new movie and

possible TV series and not owned by Disney like our Wars cousins or have all the old TRIBBLE actors in

the first reboot movie (Star Wars VII is not going to be JJ film, he got out a while ago)

Ok battlestar was amazing. . So erm you are wrong there. . .

I have seen joke 2009 trek about 5 times each time I realise even more why I hate it. . I can give you a list if you want.. But mostly its because it's garage, i would rather watch star wars prequels than that film and that shows how bad that is. . Or even alien resurrection now you understand how much I hate it lol

Failing that you don't get how much I hate it. . . I would erase it from time if I could

From what I've seen, if you grew up on TOS you're more likely to think it best, while if you're younger and grew up on TNG you think that was better and view TOS as backwards and inferior, and so on.

Yes TOS had some stinkers. So did TNG. So did DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise. Each series also had some great stories brilliantly portrayed.

Everyone has their own preferences. But anyone that comes here and says that Trek as a whole is "a joke" just doesn't belong. Honestly I don't know why you're here then.

I dunno, man. I mean, if he's seen the 1st movie 5 times and still hates it, plus his brother's sister's cousin and all 10 members of his fleet are saying the next Trek flick is bad, by golly it must be.

My optimism for "Into Darkness" has finally fizzled out after reading about this. I was really hoping that the reboot could get away from using a crutch in the form of prime actors, and rehashed stories, and rather provide us with completely new Trek adventures. Sadly, this doesn't seem to be the case. :(

I will still give the movie a watch and take it at face value, but I really doubt I'll be a fan.

How does going where we all went before in Star Trek II for a second time make you a 'true explorer'?

You seem to not understand that the reason a lot of us are frustrated with this movie (which, btw, some of us have already seen), is that it didn't 'boldly go' anywhere new. Its a retread of an old movie. And not as good as the original. That's why I at least was so disappointed. Abrams, after his first movie, had the whole Star Trek universe to play with, with no continuity restrictions. He had a great cast, and a huge budget. And with all of those options...

...he decides to rehash a movie we've already seen.

    Why does the movie work?

Because it takes aaaaall the known pop-cultural aspects of the original Trek and HYPERCHARGES them for entertainment purposes. Re: entertainment <---- the whole point of a movie.

Wait...are you talking about JJ Trek, or Galaxy Quest?

Just a nit - Khan was quoting Melville, specifically Moby **** (with which it shared certain themes). The Shakespeare quotes were in TUC.

And Abrams was pulled back in on SW Ep VII.

Ya know what I hate both sides bashing each other telling people your not a true trek fan if.... People have a right to judge the movie, for good or for bad. Personally i'm a trek fan but i'm just not impressed with the plot. If some like it to each his own, but the series is turning more into a dystopian reality then trek. I'd like something more original in a story then evil baddie in overpowered starship blows the heck outta target x and the cast must embark on a "sink the bismark" mission. And lets be honest if it was starwars magic blood might work but this just doesn't make much sense.
