I got the invite too. Started my character and made it the flotila before having to shut down for work. So far I am please with the exceptions of a few minor things. I only plan o play up til.it is time to make my alliance choice. Then I will save the rest of the goodies for launch.
I just got the mail this morning (was late for work because I was itching to finish the Romulan tutorial before I leave).
Not really sure why I was selected for the first wave of the closed beta. I have done some testing, but I'm sure there are more active players on tribble that deserve it.
Nevertheless, I'm honored and shall do my best to find them little bugs : )

I was surprised to be picked myself. Did a couple Tribble Test Weekends, made a few C-Store purchases via DL exchange Zen... guess it was random. Having fun though.
Most of the criteria being money spent and not actual feedback I'd guess...
While you have a valid point, I got selected and apart from LTS I haven't spent a penny on this game since.
But I have been in all but one of the previous betas.
Now I know many people have spent way more than me, so your conclusion whilst it may play a part is not fully true.
Now take what you want from that, and if the numbers are "small" then I would think it was sent to people who have been on tribble for X amount of hours.

I don't see why people are excited to do the devs job for them, and for free. LOL.
More accurately, I wonder why people are excited to bug test when they know Cryptic will ignore practically all Tribble feedback.
How the Devs see Star Trek, apparently:
Star Trek: The Original Grind
Star Trek: The Next Grind
Star Trek: Deep Space Grind
Star Trek: Voyage to the Grind

Can't be because I haven't really spent any "money" on anything since it went F2P. I have spent my stipend on BO slots and just bought the vesta 3 pack last week with dil/zen converstion. I have however, been on tribble for every release since I joined STO in May of 2010. I also "Like" STO on FB and I believe a few months back there was a link on STO's FB page to put your name in for a slot to beta LoR. My guess is it is random, like dstahl said, plus I'm sure they have records of what captains consistently test Tribble, and then maybe some other criteria, like maybe how often an account is logged in, which is daily in my case.

STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Not agreeing the the player(s) arguments or conclusions is not the same as disregarding or ignoring player feedback. I can tell you with 100% certainty that Cryptic doesn't ignore player feedback. They listen to it very carefully. to feedback especially when testing new things.
I've been in every Cryptic Close Beta sessions of all every game that Cryptic has developed. (Although I will admit to buying my way into Neverwinter's closed beta sessions) But I can tell you from personal experience that Cryptic developers to listen and taking player's comments and argument into consideration.
The thing that players need to realize is that we don't know or have access to all of the considerations and long range goals that the developers have. All we have is what we see in the games, and what the developers are willing to talk about publicly, We are an important consideration as we are the customer. But we need remember that player feedback is one consideration amount many considerations.
And as to why testers test? Well first thing is that I get my handles on something new...first even (yes I am being a bit elitist there). And I like debugging things. If something breaks, I want to figure out why they break so it can be fixed. Yes, I like doing that.
Two example of that, first is last night I had to replay a mission last night many time to figure how I get into a situation where it would not complete. That means logging out, waiting 5 minutes for mission instance to despawn, and then running that segment all over again because the situation was at the very end. I did things as a player would do things which the mission designer probably didn't consider.
Another example is last year I was running exploring missions while Borticus was in TTS chat. I used the IDIC Tribble on that character and a bug was that the IDIC Tribble buff activation F/X kept playing on my BOFFs and summoned pets at random. I mentioned it in TTS and Borticus said it was a bug they had not been able to pin down. I continued playing keeping an eye on what I did. I found out what triggered the replay of the IDIC buff F/X. My character was an Engineer summoning generators and turrets and mines. That trigger the F/X playing on characters and pet. I told Borticus what I found. And we got a fix for most of the random F/X playing within a couple of weeks.
...and my complexion is a bit greener..., musta been all those peas I ate for lunch.
And of course, wouldn't ya know...
Today is the day Time/Warner decides to fiddle around with the internet service in my neighborhood...
I haven't had a reliable connection since I got up this morning...

I really like the Romulan tutorial.
The new UI looks a bt blocky but I'll get use to it in time.
TRIBBLE your game... I want that clever computer.

other than that - it's FUN!
I'll start testing as soon as I come back from University this evening
Unfortunately, due to work constraints, couldn't start right away. But... the timing is great, I have off all of next week.... bring it on.
Yeah,
I was only able to test the Romulan Expansion for a few minutes last night
But the Weekends Coming!
