How to transfer ZEN to Star Trek Online

I downloaded STO via Steam. I purchased $50 USD via Steam and have confirmation via email from Steam and Paypal that the transaction was completed successfully. I also can see within my account options in Steam that I have the $50 available.

Going via the STO game client, I go into the zen store, click Buy Zen, select the "Steam Wallet" option (The only option available), select the 5000 zen option, and hit BUY. But it times out and tells me that the transaction has been cancelled.

Checking my steam account, I can see that the transaction was attempted, and failed (Now five times).

The first time, got impatient so closed the "buy zen" window. Got a message back eventually that I had cancelled it. Makes sense.

Second time, tried again, same instance of the client, but it timed out.

Checked the Steam account and noted that there were two failed transactions, so I can see some kind of communication.

Third time, closed STO, restarted STO without restarting Steam, and again, time out.

Fourth time, closed STO, closed Steam Client, Restarted both, logged in, and again it shows it timed out.

Fifth time, checked my AV software at my firewall, and turned off web filtering, virus blockers, spyware blockers, phish blockers, and anything else that could contribute to a bad/unexpected result coming back from the servers, and STILL no go.

Is there some kind of delay in payment between the two services I'm not aware of? What else do I need to check up on to find out whats going on?

    According to the FAQ:
Q: Can I still purchase Cryptic Points through Steam?
Cryptic Points will no longer be available through Steam, however, when logged in through Steam, you will be able to purchase ZEN directly within Cryptic Games using Steam Wallet. ZEN purchased for Champions Online or Star Trek Online using Steam Wallet will go directly into your ZEN balance in-game.

    EDIT:
Went to bed after this, shut machine down, and woke up this AM to try again. Still fail. Started hunting for log files, found the following:

120907 11:17:37 25 Client[0 P[xxxxx@xxxxx Xander Hunt@Pontiac76]]: GameServer link disconnected (208.95.184.84:7387). Reason: Disconnect Error: 10053(10053:Connection reset locally) (socket error 10053: Connection reset locally)

Checking to see who owns 208.95.184.84 I found it to belong to Cryptic. Something wrong with the connectivity between Cryptic and steam?

No. If you transferred it to STO by mistake you can contact Support and explain the situation. They might transfer it back, but I wouldn't hold my breath - especially if they see you were using the Zen.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

I want to know what my C-Points went to. It sdays my accounts are linked, and I'm a life time subscribers who has not played in ages, but I can see no c-points in my account!

Edit: Ok, found my CPoints (knew that would happen as soon as I asked, sigh...) but can I make them into Zen and use them in another game?

Why isn't STO in the gameslist of the CORE-connect client ( even though it is a PWE game ) ?

Because at this time CORE Connect does not support STO. Not all PWE games are in the CORE Connect system.

I try to buy zen from inside the game using my "steam wallet" - I've been free to play up to now. I've put money in the wallet but every time I try to buy through the steam wallet in the steam client I get a failed in the "event" column.

I read somewhere I have to link my steam and my sto account but when I went to the address and entered my sto account nothing happened

    any ideas?

I have been trying to buy Zen for two days now. My accounts are linked with my PWI account but, it repeatedly tells me that I need a level 10 character in order to buy Zen. ALL but ONE of my characters are level 10+. I followed the advice in the FAQ &, unsurprisingly, it didn't work....

I then emailed tech support &, as you might have guessed, they merely replied with the information from their FAQ. I have loaded, reloaded, cleared, purged & flushed the system more times than I can count. It's as if PWI doesn't WANT our money....

https://billing.perfectworld.com/ has been timing out the whole day today.

    I guess PW/Cryptic don't want my money.

It keeps saying your purchase failed for an unknown reason. And I guess they will not fix the issue since its not so wide spread ... and when the sale ends anyone who can get zen will be all happy and those who cant because of this silly error that seems to be due to account issues... will be in tears. Like what you guys don't want /our/ money? Apparently steam wallet isn't a viable purchasing tool it grays out to no payment option available as soon as the "transaction" tries to go through

I notice when Star Trek Online first joined with Perfect World I bought a PW Prepaid Card which went totally toward Zen and there was no apparent means of shifting any of it toward C-Points at the time. This really bothered me cause I wasn't able to buy any
of the really good stuff I wanted. It discouraged me from buying anymore PW Prepaid Cards.

I understand there's security concerns when dealing with online payment. What I do not understand is the fact that the money for zen have been paid from my account to skrill/pwe and are still not available. Basically I've paid for a service I haven't received.

The fact that this have been paid with a debet/credit card and verified by my banks verification system makes this even more ridiculous. The verification my bank asks for includes social security number, password and a one time use code that i get from a personal device from my bank.

Not at all impressed with the "security" measures!

Great guide; thanks for writing it!

EDIT: I have a problem. I can't seem to use my debit card for the transaction. It's an CIBC card, and I'm in Canada.

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

You cannot buy Zen for someone. The best you could do is buy a Zen card for someone and send that to them.

As far as posting your own thread, the game requires you to buy Zen or to have played a certain amount of time before you can make your own threads in most sections of the forum.

if you don't want to snail mail it, buy a zen card, then send your friend the code under the scratch-it on the back.

Thanks for the replies I've spent over $600 on Zen with this account and have charged Zen to my STO account too so don't understand why I still can't make my own threads?

Regardless of that where do I obtain a Zen card? I've checked my local Game and Grainger Games stores none of which stock them. Neither do PC World/Currys or TESCO/Morrisons. Searching Amazon only brings up 60 day time cards (???) but no actual Zen cards.

    Thanks,
    DS

I am guessing it's because you just created the STO account this month. Have you bought Zen since you created your STO forum account?

I have them in Walmart, Target, and Casey's General Store in my area.

Yeah I've credited ?10 to my STO account but still says I can only post replies and not threads.

Ah unless I travelled 3,500 miles to the US East Coast I'm stuck with the stores we have in the UK (Game, Amazon, Grainger Games, PC World/Currys, supermarkets etc)

So with the exception of these cards which they only sell in America is their no other way to gift a friend Zen as a surprise birthday present etc?

p.s. the euro sign doesn't work on these forums :s

I just did a quick check on Google. PC Game Supply, Here sells the cards world-wide: they apparently send you the digital code via email. There are probably other European online game sites which do likewise.

Just tried this and sent the code to my friend for their birthday fingers crossed :) have to pay a small charge for them to scratch the card off ontop of the base charge but much quicker and easier than waiting for them to post a card out. Fingers crossed it will work!

My PWE account is over 2 years old and has always been in good standing and i have characters on 5 different games yet still no posting(in that context) for those requisite forums. Im curious once you make a new character on a game that you just installed before you can send zen to it?

it wont let me buy zen tokens.

last time I bought few zens were last dec 2012.
I assume it were very simple 1-2-3 steps format.

I am really sick of this run-arounds.
I went to options to find and change the settings to enable.

now I wasted over 2 hours with "3rd party" billing services.
I am fed up trying to fix it and keep getting "Browser setting" error.

I even went to Microsoft to look up on internet option sites, scaling all the cookies.

I find this Zen/C-store a very buggy, misleading, carrot bait and switch tactics, very unfriendly cookie cache issues.

what happen to in-game buying process? going to out of game window is very buggy...
I prefer quick and simple process but not struggling with them over 2 hours just to find out that zen page isn't working right for some windows/explorer services.
