This is whats happening...

When the launcher pops up the adds in the launcher are scrambled, fuzzy or something. The same thing happens on websites. For example when I went to Amazon the pictures of the movies were scrambled and fuzzy. Here on this site up top where I would see a picture and and the word Forum it is scrambled.

Before I noticed any of this a got a notification an update was available for my graphics card. I downloaded it and when it finished a got a warning saying it was unsafe. I have GEforce 210 if that matters. Any advice on this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The first thing I would do is go directly to the nvidia site and download a new graphics driver: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Then I would go to Adobe and see if you need a Flash update: http://get2.adobe.com/flashplayer/

But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Always start with the simple solutions first.

1.) Update drivers.......Check, but you got an error....>
2.) Run your antivirus program, if you dont have one get one........(pass/fail?)....>
3.) If pass, physicaly inspect your GFX card, remove it and ensure the contacts are clean and undamaged......>
3a.)If fail, Remove said virus and try your drivers again...>
4.) Attempt to install your GFX card into a different slot (if available)....>
    5.) Get a new GFX card...>
6.) Get a new mother board.

Also listing your system specs may come in handy for future support on this thread.

Either my linking the manufacturer specs like this

Or listing your the model numbers of your installed parts.

    I'm gonna do something different..

Cause what you described did not sound like a driver issue to me, but I could be wrong, So I'd like to see whats going on... So "Can I haz screenshots"?

The more examples you can provide, the happier I will be.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

If the game worked fine under the previous Driver, then what you probably have is an issue with the updated driver and STO. In that case I would simply download and install the previous Driver and keep playing. Eventually Cryptic will catch up to the new Driver code. There's probably just a miss-matched file that's causing issues in STO. This is, of course, assuming, the scrambled graphics are not a problem on any other website or game.

First, what told you your graphic card had an update? Was it some Nvidia message? I'm not saying Nvidia or Radeon don't let you know this, but usually if you buy a computer from a manufacturer(Toshiba, HP, Dell, etc) the graphic card companies usually tell you to get updates from them because not every make can take the driver from Nvidia/Radeon. Anyway, it sounds like the driver is not compatible. If using windows, you can usually go the computer properties> device manager> display adapters> choose your card> right click and choose-properties> driver tab> roll back driver. That should restore your previous driver.

The more recent Windows Updates now include Graphics card Drivers along with all their Security updates. He might have gotten it from there.

A had an Nvidia message pop up. I have always used updates from Nvidia and never had a problem once. This is what I am thinking, my graphics card is taking a dump on me right before the Romulans arrive in May. I had the graphics card installed four years ago when I bought this computer. Is four years the life span on something like this? I don't think I need to restore my previous drivers because it hasnt accepted the newest update. When I DL the new update, it runs the security scan, then a message pops up saying it has been reported as bad.. for lack of a better word. Also, last night I couldn't watch Star Trek Voyager on my windows media player. It was freezing and skipping.

If you think your card is going bad you can buy a new geforce 210 for like $32.00 at newegg. It's not an expensive card.

Thats great news for me. Four years ago when I bought it from Best Buy it was way more to say the least. Out of curiosity, what graphics card would be great for STO? I will just upgrade as high as I can depending on the price.

This site always has some good price comparison information.

There are a lot of factors that go into video card choices. For example, your Power Supply makes a difference. Generally, the more powerful the Graphics Card the more Power it requires. If your Power Supply is not big enough to meet the needs you're going to experience problems. So the choice you make isn't just governed by how much you can spend.

If you are not going to install the card yourself your best bet is to take the computer in and let them make some recommendations for you - as they will be able to see your system and know what they have to work with.

I don't know how old this thread is or if you have already gotten a new graphics card. But I had some questions. First screen-caps would be good. And any error messages word for word. Or just screen-cap them for us. "PrintScreen" and then paste in to MSPaint will do the job. My other question is what Anti-Virus are you using? It does not sound like a virus. but I want to know what program is doing the scanning.

What is doing the scanning? Knowing that would help. There are some anti-virus programs that are not worth having or using. I would also suggest downloading Malwarebytes and Spybot Search and Destroy. Again I don't think it is anything to do with a virus or malware. But is it is better to check and only takes a bit of time.
Please go to the Adobe site and re-install Flash player. Just in case.
Also when you inspect your card, look for broken capacitors.
If it was hardware then you computer should not be able to display anything. So if sounds like the install of the driver software got messed up somehow. But the more information you can give us the better.

Oh! and one more thing. Test your RAM please. This could be a sign of bad RAM, it does funny things when it goes bad. (I had a friend whose computer started displaying his external hard drive as a printer.) MemTest is probably the best. If you have a linux install on your computer as well then it comes with a copy of it. At least Mint and Ubuntu do.

Above is the header on this page and how I see it now. It is always a header or add or picture of some kind. For anti-virus I have webroot secure anywhere. Everytime I DL something like an update it scans the file.

When was the last time a full scan was performed on your computer?

What size power supply do you have? (this is for more info on a new GFX card.)

Just to be clear it's all video/GFX thats giving you issues or is it just sto related?

I actually played STO for the first time in 2 days a second a ago. Everything was ok graphics wise. I was kicked off about 6 or 7 times in a 20 minute span.

pentium dual core CPU @ 2.70GHz
    RAM - 6.00GB
    Windows 7 64 bit

    Thanks for all the help

Could be a regristry error...... try downloading something like System Mechanic that has a regristry clean up tool. Run it and see it your stability improves.

Now the systems which are at best sounds like:

    1) bad memory, yes RAM does this, be it rare through, more likely to have memory leaks.

    2) GPU going out. But Ive never seen this happen as a home tech of about 16 years.

Now first thing would be start form the simplest and get more complex, which you have.

From the systems, I would look at the monitor, I had one that just puke shades of blue over the screen, turns out one of those parts that controlled that shade went out.
Ive also seen an excessive dust build up interfere with the monitor powering up. So that is what I would at first. Try to rest the picture/focus. Or *if* you have another monitor/LCD/whatever hook the rig up to that, that would tell you a lot more then the 5 min spent reading this.

But I would suggest to upgrade the rig a bit/ mainly the RAM/and GPU, might have to up the PSU, and if the rig is what Im thinking it is, itll just be a 250 watt PSU.

It looks like I fixed it. I have no idea exactly what I did to do it though. I started uninstalling programs I dont use, or I thought would be the problem, for example, Playlater/Playon. I opened my anti virus and did a clean up. I realized their were 11 threats in quarantine so deleted them all. Then I restarted. During the restart the computer had to check something for consistency. Everything passed from the looks of it. My computer started and the now the distortions are gone. But I still cant DL anything. A message appears saying it was reported as unsafe. Be it graphics drivers, adobe, or the playon/playlater

That nVidia driver's WHQL/Microsoft signed. I don't suppose you've had your system checked for malware with something like Spybot or similar? Or even M$'s "Microsoft Security Essentials" will do the trick (and it's free).

Also since the 'distortions' only happens in STO/ads in the STO launcher, it's extremely unlikely there is anything wrong with your graphics card/driver. However, that launcher is dependant on Internet Explorer/IE Plugins. M$ just forced IE10 on most people, you'd need to update some Adobe plugins along with IE10. Just run the Windows Update on your Win7-64 and that should sort that out. Sometimes a restart is all you need to sort it out too. Users of Real Player can attest to that.

"Consistency" type errors usually indicate some file errors on your hard drive. Could be serious... most likely not. Only a problem if they get reelected.

I took your advice asphe. I updated IE10. Once I did I restarted my computer like it wanted then I tried to install the correct updates to my Nvidia Geforce 210. It worked. No issue installing. I double checked adobe for updates and there are none. The distortions are gone. And the performance seems to be smoothing out too. All I need to is re install the playon/playlater program so I can watch my Netflix.

I am happy to hear that you got your problem sorted out. Playon/Playlater just seems to be a program that is used to record programs on your hard drive from places like Hulu and Netflix. Not really needed these days since the internet speeds have increased. But I can see how it might be useful. I would suggest CCleaner for cleaning up unwanted files and registry entries. Your anti virus seems to be working well. Though it is not one I know of, I normally suggest using Avira or AVG, but I don't think there is much reason to switch at the moment. MS security essentials is good as well but if you have Win 7 then it is already on your computer.
