You would think the color schemes would be.........oh under the HUD Options?

Brilliant (sarcasm) they put it under "Basics".

But people are right, some are problematic.

Personally, be nice instead of changing UI colors, we can actually change UIs.

ever click on that tab?2000000 options are in there....another one will be invisible.Remeber that people were not able to find the physcis objects slider to remove/reduce the number of balloons.

I say the option should be right in the middle of the screen....and even then some wont find it.

I really like the new hud color options. The TNG and Voyager current has an issue with cetrain buttons being harder to see for the text, but not a big deal. Will there be an option to select the two different colors (i.e. the gorn one is a comb of green/brown), or an expanded list in the future?

The text color on the "low priority interactions" window is white and hardly visible when using skin colors such as "TNG" or "Voy"

Otherwise, the UI is a work of art, my hat down and a low bow to the art team!

Shows how poor how they layout the Options, doesn't it.

Getting to see the UI's again this build I don't have a lot to add from my earlier comments because changes were minimal.

Still like the cleaner feel over the old UI.

Thank you for adding Quantum Slipstream Drive to the Throttle in Sector space!

Contrast needs some work across most of the UI schemes. Some elements are too bright (Highlighted buttons, KDF orange overall, TNG/VoY Astometrics buttons), and others too dark (time and sector name on the Minimap).

I hope we might get a Carrier tray in the future similar to the Weapons Tray, with the 4 commands along the top border like the Fire All buttons are, and he Tray itself showing launched fighters from each bay with a Total/Max display, and health displays for all fighters.

It would be nice to get PvP queue button and a visit bridge button out and more accessible.

some texts in the Romulan color scheme become black == unreadable

may we get a "custom" color scheme too?

I've noticed this in all the other schemes as well. Particularly for mission rewards and vendor items.

    Honestly,
that gui will cost you players.
It is a mess, unclean, wastes to much space, all those useless black containers for everything.
It is visually not appealing nor clean. The preset color choices are just dull, there is no live in the gui, everything is pastel colors and black.

    Sorry Thomas.

Can i have the option to use the old gui?

I like the Fed new UI just find, but the klingon ui is too brown. Also I think a little work on some of the padding could really make it look like isn't just a color variant of the federation ui.

I just drew over a picture of my screen, so it isn't very professional, but here is what I had in mind.

There is a lot of difficulties putting a klingon rhombus shaped display on a square monitor, so I realize that doing it properly would be a very daunting task for the designers. It is more of just a way to help brainstorm what the ui could look like. Hope it inspires some creativity.

I would still like the option to turn the black backgrounds transparent, which I think would improve the look immensely.

I haven't played much on Tribble yet, and I don't know if these have been mentioned already, but here's my first impressions:

    1) All the curves on UI element corners are jagged, like they were drawn in MS Paint. I'm guessing this is part of the colour-changing functionality (hard to blend edges when the colours can be customised) but it does make the UI look rather out of date.

    2) Boffs and other "face to face" contacts should not be appearing on a viewscreen. Simply losing that overlay for them would suffice.

    3) This one definitely has been mentioned: the black boxes around elements. Please please please make them transparent.

Two things I noticed playing in the UI

1: Buttons on the Fed interface don't have rounded corners. Specifically, selected buttons in menus. They look out of place with all the other rounded corners. (its not a big deal on the Klingon interface, since that's all sharp corners)

2: When using the TNG color scheme, interact buttons become difficult to read if they are selected, but not hovered over.

For clarity, I've attached a screenshot.

    http://i.imgur.com/QSmkUOw.jpg

(edit: upon playing a little further, that interact color sucks. It's too bright. Especially in sector space, as that's what the planets I'm zooming past have their little info pop-up show as. All the other schemes have a relatively dark color, but this one is bright bronze. I want to love the TNG scheme, but that's a no-go for me.)

There's a similar issue with the Voyager UI style. Outside of ESD for example, the beam down to Starfleet Academy and Warp Out buttons need to have their background color changed to the blue within the theme. Personally, I would like the ability to create my own UI theme. Is this possible using something similar to the tailor to create UI themes that can be added to the drop down?

Edit: There's a similar issue with the same Voyager UI but in sector space. Although the button to enter the system fades to something readable, it starts off almost unreadable.

Edit 2: Yet again but on the ground with the Voyager UI. Yes, it does eventually fade but it's almost unreadable before it does.

I agree, this new UI is not clean whatsoever. It makes me want to go play WoW when i looking at it for some reason.

Would be nice to have the ability to change back to the current UI once this new one goes live to holodeck. I really hope the dev's read some of the feedback in this thread.

It looks as if they did this with Microsoft Paint in windows 3.1

The UI looks slightly more smoothened and better on the patch 2, however it still is pixelated and so is the font. Since this is a WIP and there was improvement in Patch 2 UI, I'm hoping by patch 3 it should get better.

My next complain is with the Voyager UI, again I suspect this was left off since UI is still WIP, but on sector space, white font on bright white/silver parts of "Disable Astrometrics"or "Red Alert" is really hitting the eyes. Either the color for that block or the font color needs to be acomodated for better viewing.

EDIT: Also I forgot complete. The new pop up message UI by the NPC, your BO during STFs, or starbase docking NPCs is too large and needs to be scaled down.

I'm going against the grain and I'll say that the new UI is growing on me.

    Somethings I'd like to see:

Some more UI color options for the major fed races (especially andorian & vulcan).

TNG LCARS look needs a bit more to make it pop, a little too much pale beige.

Resizing the minimap and placing the minimap on ground means it also changes location and size in space.

    Is that working as intended?

Well at least one person likes it..unfortunately me and alot of others in this thread disagree. The thing is low res and hideous.

The character creation screen is fine, but the character selection screen is bad...its very low resolution, jagged edges, cheap and generic in appearance. This is with quality settings on max and high end vid card.

I just want an option to revert back to the old system when this pile of garbage goes live.

Just patched and tried to play this morning. My starship's only stations are the away team roster. I literally can't assign any BoFFs to the bridge of my ship or shuttle.

Not sure if other people are experiencing this or not.

Also, the look of the new UI is kind of... not functional. Very blocky, bulky, lots of empty space. I assume maybe it offers better client performance, because it doesn't offer any functional or aesthetic advantage that I can see.

I'd honestly rather have the live UI, and just give us the option to change the color of different elements. Even something as crude as "Blue/Green/Red?" for overall UI look would be a massive improvement on live, or what's on Tribble.

I love the new UI. It's heads and shoulders better than the current UI which is horrible. The new UI actually looks like LCARS and the game actually looks like a Star Trek game now...

I agree. it looks too much like a magical/fantasy-game and nothing I'd even closely connect with Star Trek design. Personally, I like the old bridge design much, much better.

The borders of the character in the character selection screen also seem very edgy and showing a lot of big pixels when compared to those on Holodeck*, where the borders are (or seem) very smooth.

*using exactly the same graphics settings on Holodeck & Tribble

I have no idea what's meant to be going on with the character select screen, I still think it should be the same place as the character creation screen essentially, with your current starship visible outside the window. I'd also much rather have a beam out and ship launch from space dock kind of thing, once you've selected what character you want to play. :D

The whole ui seems to boxy and cluttered. Its harsh on the eyes and after a while it gets tiresome.

I toyed around with interface scales, but even so, the sizes of some of the elements I feel could use some tweaking. For instance, when in a team: the player info on the left side of the screen for all your team mates are too big. Again too boxy.

In space, something about the shields and power levels indicators. I can't look down at my shields and see what shield facing is most drained as quickly. I think its the white coloring that makes it difficult. The old shield/hull indicator was better.

Fonts. Too boxy. All harsh to look at.

Along with messing with sizes of all the ui elements, perhaps adding transparency/make less opaque the ui elements as to make it feel less cluttered. Also perhaps encorporate some of the "Holographic" art into the ui. Like making the windows and hotbars that contain the clickable powers look like the holographic sign above Quinn's office.

SUMMARY: overall, both ui and fonts are too cluttered and hard on the eyes. Some one said it earlier, feels like a game out of the 1990s.

I mean it's not perfect, but it's still in what seems like a WIP stage.

I actually like the more LCARS feel in most places and not the ever present burning monocrhome mania blue/red of the old UI.

Some items are a bit too boxy/large, but the actual trays/minimap/chat box is a bit nicer than what we have on holodeck now imo.

Regardless, even if it's not to your liking calling someone else's hardwork "garbage" is taking things a bit too far perhaps?

I know its easy to conjure up hatred from the bottom of your belly on any and every tiny little nitpick that comes a person's way on an internet forum, but try to keep in mind there is a human out there working on this, with a deadline, and who knows how many other behind the scenes issues.

Feel free to criticize, but there is such a thing as constructive criticism.

    Food for thought. ;)

After a quick trip to check out the new UI (really wanted to check out klingon/romulan UIs)
a few things that bugged me.
    a) the flames on the character select, why?
b)the npc popup box is WAAAAAY too big, should be 1/2-1/3 smaller and back to vertical,do not like the horizontal llayout as of now,too much wasted space for text espicially for sector warp popups
    c) Boffs- now can be moved around just like at the tailor, very cool but is it really necessary?
Can we have our away team members show up seperated from the rest of our boffs on the left side like in the stations section?

You are free to think what you want :) But I am stating my opinion about this garbage UI design in hopes that they will give us the option to use the old one.

This new design could be good, but in its current state on tribble, it is not. It is low res, low quality texturing. And some kind of magical/fantasy gaming fire on the selection screen when u select a character...just wierd, I thought I quit playing WoW awhile back. As a lifetime subscriber, I will be sad that my money went into something that apparently took 4 minutes to code.

But the UI in game does appear to be something designed on windows 3.1 in the 90's. If they want to keep it the way it is, fine by me, but let us use the old system that is in place now.

    Thanks

I find the new UI and color choices to be terrible. The current UI with color options would have been fine. The Romulan color scheme looks like High contrast mode on Windows, yuck.
The Windows are large and the size cannot be modified. The map can not be zoomed all the way out.

0/5 stars for the new UI.
