CBS is getting what they want from this game
and if they decide to pull the license I shall regard the "slaughter margin" types as responsible
NOT Cryptic
Wow , really ?
Do they have some kind of special power that the RP-ers , PVP-ers , STF-ers , KDF-ers , Feds , and Foundry folk combined lack ?
At the end of the day, the gamers make the game reviews and compare this game to other games of its kind. If we fail to keep up with the mmo race we will se the day that we do not have our beloved STO.
We survived the launch and 2 years of terrible reviews. CBS was very patient with us. But, will they allow us to fall behind again? They handle such an important franchise. Will they let a bad game that is being thrashed by the internet community tarnish their product?
There are a lot of new and VERY modern mmo games about to surface. What are we going to do to stay in the race?
If neglecting the "real" gamers means that we'll be getting rid of the likes of you, I hope they'll keep neglecting them...
anyone who plays games are gamers I don't think there are any "real gamers" except the people who play for money (tournaments) but even then that is kinda stretching it.
In ANY business with a product, the key is to make the product enjoyable to the "most people" possible. Even the older product like soda pop reinvent itself to keep fresh.
This is what Cryptic is doing with STO with Romulan expansion, lockboxes and ships. While some of us don't like it (too much money) it works and keep the game going. Sure we all love new content, but "many" players chew content faster than a crate of chocolate bunny on Easter Sunday
LOL real gamer...Aren't you the guy who posted that "goodbye cruel game" I quit thread a week ago.I quit reading when I saw the sissy Top gun wannabe sig.:P
does it bug you too??? I thought it was just me ....yeah please redo your avatar and sig both epic fail
I'd like to see some of your faces. I don't hide behind pretense.
if i did not know any better id say your trolling everyone on purpose but ya i have to wonder what is up with your avie and sig and have ya thought about not being a mainstream MMO fan cuz this game is anything but mainstream;) also on topic i am a casual gamer wanting to get the best experience in a MMO that he can so does that not make me a gamer nope i am as much a gamer as you i like playing games making new friends and kicking borg down walkways pulsewave in hand >=). Also your attitude is a real how can i say it....elitest. I usually don't write many bad things but you have brought all this negativity onto yourself by constantly calling people trolls when the dissagre with your views
A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"
A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"
"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch." "We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"
Passion and Serenity are one.
I gain power by understanding both.
In the chaos of their battle, I bring order.
I am a shadow, darkness born from light.
The Force is united within me.

I'm not quite sure what point you are getting at here or what you mean by 'real' gamers. As a rule of thumb, the hardcore gamer is actually not very loyal and they tend to jump ship when the next big title comes along, so it is actually dangerous to cater solely to them, also they usually make up a pretty small percentage of a games playerbase.
STO is now using the F2P model as well, this model is directed more at the casual gamer, the point of the F2P model is to open up the game and lower the entry level into it. Some may hate the model, but it has proven to actualy bring in more revenue that the P2P model (although many games, including STO like to use a hybrid model). To put things into perspective, in 2011 $1.2 Billion was spent in F2P MMO's in the US alone. It should also be noted that traditional client based MMO's only make up around 20% of the MMO industry, with far more MMO's been played over browsers now. If anything, the trends currently dictate that it is far more dangerous to neglect the casual gamer, than the traditional hardcore gamer.
Also, having worked in the mobile gaming industry, I wouldn't be so quick to brush off mobile gamers, the revenue they can generate is enormous. If anything I strongly believe STO needs to cash in on it (from what I gather, they are looking into it as well), having access to systems like the DoFF system, or maybe even reputation system on a mobile app could really help boost revenue for STO.
Also, as others have stated, CBS should be more than happy with STO, it is making them money right now, aslong as it keeps making them money, I see no reason why they'd pull the plug.

Maybe they will go away with the other "real gamers" who are leaving en masse, apparently soon, for all the shiny new games out there.

Agreed. What a waste of 10 minutes of reading - give me my time back! I already lost an hour this weekend thanks to the clocks, I'm 75 minutes down on where I should be. Outrage!
They care very much. Why do you think it is so hard for cryptic to get permission to use ship modles?
They care only about the profit; AND protecting future Book/TV options (and of course Paramount has it's reboot film series going which they wangt to protect and cross pomote), which is why we ghave no clear answer as to what happened with the 1701-E, etc. But neither CBS nor Paramount really care about anything except the bottom line. they do hire people who hacve a stake and care to a point; but in the end, it's all about the profit margin - first and foremost.

Please share the secret !
They make games about body count and are never happy
If I had a Dilith for Every Halo player who complains about "lack of realism" I could finish a T5 starbase solo
If neglecting the "real" gamers means that we'll be getting rid of the likes of you, I hope they'll keep neglecting them...
Yes , but the "Never Happy / Always Happy" is the hallmark of the STO forumite .
(and forumites in general :P)
Thus not being happy bout X does not make them THE bane of STO .
They just have to get in line .
And honestly I see a lot more ppl complaining about a lot more about other things than "a lack of realism" . You PVP / Foundry / KDF much ?
Just breathe, it'll pass. I went through this last week.
You'll scar, but it'll heal.

Im ugly as hell
but then you are no oil painting either
My nose got some oil, and from time to time I use to to create masterpeices on car windows.
you should because what your showing me now .......................sorry threw up in my own mouth again...............
You start a thread about "real gamers" and claim you don't hide behind pretense?
Hah
OP, maybe you need to stick to creating masterpieces on car windows, your talent lies there.
Maybe instead of showing us your gaming views, you should show some nice artwork.
Put him on we will talk to him instead

This is a forum for a sci fi MMO, not a dating site princess.
I put 50 quatloos on Sollvax.
Same. Though I dont really care about canon so I don't argue much about that.
