Personally, I find the UI to not be to my tastes, it looks a little too basic at this point, the colours look a little too simple and the popups are larger and seem to be more in the way than the current UI.

The login with character select is nice with the ship in the background and I also like the rotation of both character and ship in game, these two things are nice.

Overall I think this UI is a little cartoonish, a bit more on the Champions Online style than I would like, the UI works for CO, but I don't believe it would work well with STO.

Oh and colour changing would be nice too.

I have to agree, the new UI is absolutely hideous. It looks like it is from a game 15 years old. For the love of god please give us the option to maintain the current UI!

I have to agree the interface ui is very simple and not as nice and functional as the current one imo. I do like the 3d ship in players ship interface window tho instead of a static image. Also the character selection screen is kinda nice to see ur ship but at the same time meh the bridge looked really nice and will be a shame to remove.

As far the interface goes on tribble right now, it looks like not even 50% done. If this is true then fair enough i will judge when its near 85% or better. But so far its not very nice and i really wouldnt like to play this game if it looked like this imo.

Gotta say tho i do like the new contact window when in space, it now has a bridge showing around the contact your talking to like your chatting via viewscreen. VERY cool. Tho the text and rewards sections need alot of moving around to make this work better as it stands is very ugly in design. I think one way i can try to help advise this is to seperate rewards info and images away from the mission description box i.e text should be in top, mission rewards underneath in a seperate with a clear line showing its seperate and then interface choicse on the bottom right or hell if u can another bottom seperator box and stick them in there. Would look far nicer imo.

Give us the option to change our UI. Under General, put UI Option:

    In the Toolip
FED Classic (blue UI we all know and love)
KDF Classic (Red UI we all hate)
Lcars (Black Bulk UI, no ones gonna like)

THERE ARE NO DRAWBACKS FOR ADDING THIS...

Make everyone happy, let us use our own UI...

    It looks horrible.

The NPC chat boxes are ok in space, but on the ground it's a bit weird. I don't really need a viewscreen type experience for all the npcs I talk to. But it was a nice touch.

The colour scheme is all wrong and makes it hard to make out box edges and quite honestly looks like I accidentally put my computer in high contrast mode. Some of the pictures are nice and trek like, but they are over sized and seem to clutter the UI a lot more than the old ones. It's also very blocky and intrusive into game play, much more so than the old one.

On the plus side, some of the choice boxes are quite nice, as are the fonts. The mission window is also an improvement.

I actually kinda like the new one, reminds me of the old PE one a little bit.

Having options for keeping the old and new one though isn't actually as simple as you make it out to be. Right now, it isn't too bad, as no new features have been added, but as the game progresses and more features are added, making multiple UI skins for those actually would start to become problematic and create more work.

To be honest, I'd give it a few days of playing with the new UI to see if it grows on you, it's quite eacy to get a knee jerk reaction (not meaning this in a negative way) when something you are used to is changed. It's kinda ironic people have been screaming for a UI overhaul on the forums for years, and now when it happens people are screaming for it not to be done, the joys of working on MMO's :-P

This isn't knee jerk. Hating KDF for being Red is Knee Jerk.

This is god awful, high contrast mode. Maybe it suits you better, I dunno. But I hate this, I'd rather have the current KDF one all day long than this.

As I said before, some nice additions. But generally, it's a no from me.

I haven't seen the new LCARS interface, but I agree, it would be nice if they let us choose whether to keep the UI we have now or change it.

I really hope this is a work in progress.. because as it is, it looks rather bad in my opinion :(
It's like being thrown back to 1995 or something. In space the small buttons such as for the
power levels and "fire all weapons" are really quite ugly, and the throttle, ship hp and shields
ui looks pixelated and cheap. The same goes for the minimap and the icons there, and probably
a lot more stuff that I haven't gotten round to yet. I will continue testing and get some more
feedback - this was just my initial impression.

I know it can get complex, but honestly, Throwing players into a new UI, is not going to get Positive feedback, ull get a fair share of positive, then a Negative wave. Honestly, how much time is a completely new UI element added? It isn't added often enough to say having 4 UIs is unreasonable.

Too cartoonish and child game like, if you're going for a more LCARS style layout and appearance, you have A LOT of work to do.....

Thomas, I really appreciate the work you have put into this UI. The current UI felt a little out of date. That being said, the UI could use some more rounded edges, and when the UI goes into "red alert mode" it should be slightly more red, and not as brown.

    Thanks!

You people disgust me. You have nothing better to do but sit on your fat TRIBBLE and TRIBBLE on somebody else's hard work in total anonymity. I'm sure if people could see what your real lives were like we'd all get a good laugh. Next time look up the definition of constructive feedback instead of saying it looks like TRIBBLE.

I cant agree its ugly. I for the most part like it. Its different and there are some areas that need work but the character creator looks fantastic, the character sheets all look very nice, the pop up windows are great.

The main HUD could use a little improving around the weapon sections and around the shield and power settings too but it looks much more like LCARS to me. It will take a little getting used to before people are comfortable with it, and we will have almost 2 months to go before its launched to make modifications and tweaks on something people have used for an hour compared to 3 years.

give it a little time to sink in.

I can vouch for that, its rather lovely.

That being said, the UI takes up a conciderable amount of additional space, the icons are more difficult to decipher and the colours bleed together alot.

There needs to be more rounded edges, additional colours added rather than two tone, I.E not black on blue background.

It would be alot nicer imo if there was more color to the buttons of the interface. They have actually added a tiny bit of color to the ship power bars. I would really like it if there was more color for the mini map area and power trays and the shields area which i really would like that part to go from blue to full shields, down to orange for half strength shields to red to dangerously low (thomas if u see this try and get this in plz :) )

But yeah its still far too blue and not enough color. Also the blue seems quite dark which to me i quite liked the ui on holodeck because its bright and easy to see and use whereas the new one is very dark and i think i will genuinely struggled to use.

If cryptic really wanted a decent lcars UI i really wish they went and copied Birth of the federations ui because its the only one i think has ever worked as in looked lcars and was very easy to use and designed well for a game.

You guys are talking like there is a vote or something. This game is not a democracy, the UI IS changing. Also when you're crapping on the the changes try to think for a second that a real life human being has been busting their TRIBBLE on this for us. So maybe try to keep it constructive.

Personally speaking, I find the popups to be a bit too large and intrusive and the colours overall a bit, simple, I do think it could do with some work. Yeah, my initial words weren't well chosen, I'd welcome an updated UI but I do think some changes would be welcomed.

The rotating of ships and characters as well as the login are both nice, something that would be another nice addition would be the ability to change it's colour.

Whilst the UI is been overhauled, I'd like to make a suggestion that has been made several times in the past (and even hada mod made to do it)

    • Give abilities in the trays colour coding so you can see if its a tactical, science or engineering abilty.

As it stands, many icons look very similar, the lack of colour between them can make identifying a skill at a glance quite hard (more so in a combat siutuation). Maybe just altering the background colour behind the icon, or maybe the border of it, to red, blue or yellow, could help tell icons apart alot faster. Maybe even change the icon logo to the colour of the branch, but keep the background colour faction specific? (I'm aware this latter idea might require more work though as it would require alpha masks for altering the hue).

Eitherway, this is a feature many have brought up over the years and this seems like the best time to actually address it, what with there been a UI overhaul and there are members of the Dev team currently assigned to it ;-)

Yeah similar to the colors of the border for doffs i.e white, green blue and purple, not so much the colors there im talking about but the border for them icons style but for tray powers would be nice as the fellow above said, blue for sci, yellow or orange for eng powers and red for tactical ones perhaps or some variation. I have seen mav from sto radio use a mod that does this and it looks good and i would hope to see something like that come this way.

    UI Feedback -

    - I EXTREMELY DISLIKE not being able to spin my character during the "Race & Class" section of the character creator. You ought to be able to spin the character from any point when making a character to observe it properly. Please do not take any bad ideas from Neverwinter.

    - There seemed to be in-continuity to picking faces / hair in the character creator's basic editor. If you merely hover over a face, you see a preview of it actually on the model before selection. But, if you try to hover over hair ... nothing happens. You need to actually SELECT hair to see it. Why is this? This seems unusual and inconsistent with how the other column works.

    - I feel like if I open up the advanced character creation options, the basic character creation options (by that I mean the columns holding pictures of people's faces and hair and what have you) ought to go away. I don't need them. I'm not using them. The only thing they serve to do while I'm in the advanced option is obstruct the view of my characters shoulders and arms which I find kind of annoying. The UI is good but the basic mode makes it feel very cramped around my character. I understand if that's necessary, but in the advanced section? It's really not necessary at all.

    - Hovering over the buttons next to "Torso Scaling Options" in the advanced editor yields messages such as "Reset All Values of Head" and "Randomize All Values of Head". The randomize value buttons don't work, and dragging the sliders around didn't work either: the values wouldn't "stick". The only way they'd stay in place is if I use the arrows to adjust them. Likewise, hovering over the buttons next to "Arms and Hands Scaling Options" yeilds "Reset All Values for Base Complexion" which I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with, and also next to "Lower Body Scaling Options" the button tool tips read "Reset All Values of Earrings". ... huh.

    - After picking a basic head for the Alien part of the character creator, and then trying to select pieces from the advanced section, none of my selections would stick.

    - Where's the save/load costume button? I need a save/load costume button please. Please. Please please please or RAAAGGE.

    Inside the Game

OH MY GOD UI IS AMAZING OMAHADGFHGHSDGHGHHJSK!

I can really find no complaints here. Granted I haven't delved into the chat system yet but ... everything else looks great.

If your bridge officer pops up in space, he should have a bulkhead or technical screen behind him, not look like he's in the viewscreen.

I don't think using Green as the color of player ship's names is successful. It's too dark and too much associated with Romulans to make sense. I recommend changing it back to blue.

    ^^^ agree with that completely.

I like the new ingame UI though I wish the colours were a little more vibrant, a little less flat perhapse. It is also very possible that I would simply prefer another colour than the orange I have set for my KDF.

The Pictures on the UI/HUD are a little dark, I would prefer them to be lighter colours. As they are black right now they contrast alot with the HUD, which itself contrasts with the black of the space around my ship.

I think it looks great so far, very refreshing! :)

I like the flat-ness to it, as opposed to the rounded gradients of the current HUD. The green/black outlined rectangles in the background look great.

The buttons could do with some work, a lot of them look very 2D right now. And some of the rounded-edges need smoothing out.

Being able to spin characters in the status screens is nice. And seeing the ship in the character selection/login screen is a great touch too.

The character creator is getting stuck a bit, but that's probably more a bug than an intentional change. Then new character creator blew my mind, and I want to marry it. The same goes for the UI. It's not bright, bulky, or really flashy. It's toned down, it's DEFINITELY gotten smaller in some cases, and it seems to run better. It's also drop-dead gorgeous, and I LOVE the red alert changes. It's a simple beauty, and it really just feels better. The shade of green for friendly targets is a little disorienting, but you get used to it. This is the best thing to ever happen to the UI. If LoR is more of this quality of work, I'll die of excitement.

Agreed about the tailor, not too happy with it at all, the old layout with the new UI should be fine. As for the UI, I think it should be brighter and the icons doesn't feel like they go with the rest of the UI. Just IMO.

principally, i like the new UI, but it needs some additions.First of all, Players need to have the opportunity to select their own colors. I for myself would prefer the TNG/VOY colors (Orange, blue, red, purple and so on) but i know, there are others loving the nemesis easy blue theme like we have at the moment. so please let us chose.

Next thing is, that there are still too many angle buttons. in LCARS style, they need to be round. at least a bit more. at the moment, it really looks a but too simple.

According to the LOR page, there will be colour pallets to select from, I guess they're not implemented yet.

    http://sto.perfectworld.com/legacyofromulus
Choose the HUD color palette that works for you. Experience new and improve UI screens with easier to read options and enhanced interactions.
