I hope the UI is still work in progress, so i REALLY hope what's in Tribble now is not a finished product...the end result is more like this: as far as Animation and look go

    Greetings,

I was testing the new gameUI system. And suddenly I saw some mistakes (as for me).
Although, this new UI system is going to be a really good idea and I do hope it will be okay.

    1.
I switched on my fps to see how is the new UI's working . There was no improvements on it yet. As for me, I have still that little 20-28 fps.

    2.
When an auto-hail is popped up, that has a too big window, with a big face, and too big buttons, than the old one (what is the current one on Live server). I think just a little reduction of the window would give it a better view.

    3.
I think more gameUI parts would need free customazition. For example, the ship throttle would be better if could be hidden by players. Also allowing more changing with width and height of parts of HUD.

    4.
It's a little bit other thing. I do think the server would not lag if for example every skill on the tray in ESD, SFA and Sol system would be disabled. Not allowing to pushing them, because many-many times the players just pushing them in boring and it makes the server's lag.

    5.
I think, there would be less server pressure if one instance just includes 50 players, not 75. It's for those, too, whose computer or internet has less performance.

    6.
The pvp map, named as "Solar Wind" have to be converted, because of its lagging and moving background.

All I tapped into my mind suddenly it is.

Before I get into the rest of this post, I do want to say that I do appreciate the work you guys are putting into this game. I doubt I could do a better job, but you asked for feedback, so I'm gonna give you honest feedback.

I am sad to say I'm not happy with the new UI, for several reasons.

    1. It's very dark, literally. But then, the entire game is rather dark for some reason. I have to run the game on 125% brightness just to see things.

    2. The buttons on the KDF side are incredibly bright compared to their surroundings.

    3. In the character creator, the character itself is incredibly dark for some reason, even with settings raised. Even at 125% brightness, it's still somewhat difficult to pick out details.

    4. Some things, like the Shield / Health bar, look very cartoonish, and I actually prefer the current UI's look for them. I'm not trying to be mean, but some of these screen elements look like they were drawn in Paint (the shield indicators, for example)

---- a. The bridge officer indicators in space actually looked better before, and more like LCARS in my opinion.

---- b. Some of the new icons are actually more confusing than before, and if I didn't already know what they were (or could see the tooltip when I hover over it), I wouldn't know what they did.

---- c. The arrow keys on the shield indicators are almost as big as the shield indicators themselves, and it's actually fairly difficult to tell where my shields are without staring at the indicator.

---- d. By the same token, the hull indicator is so dull-colored, I don't even notice when my hull starts going down until it changes colors (just before I die, usually). The black on white indicator of enemies isn't much better, but the over-sized percentage number almost makes up for that.

    5. I don't really mind that allies are green, but I hope no Romulans get confused (since for them, Green is bad). ;)

    6. I appreciate the thought behind the "viewscreen" interface, but it's way too big, cumbersome, and intrusive, as others have said. Perhaps make it smaller, so it doesn't take up 2/3 of the screen?

---- a. Even when I'm not talking to a person, and there's nobody "on-screen", there's something there. It looks, well... horrible.

---- b. I'm not really sure why my bridge officers (that are supposedly on the bridge with me) are on the viewscreen when they talk to me. Wouldn't it be simpler to just turn my head and look at them, or are we really that lazy in the 25th century?

Now, that being said, I do like several things about the new UI.

    1. I like the color-coded scheme of the UI, and that it's not all one color (blue, red, ect).

    2. The previews of ships / bridge officers look nice.

    3. The red alert color change is nice, and doesn't distract too much.

    4. Whoever decided to add "Shirt Simple" to uniforms... thank you! I know it's not really part of the UI, but I'm still happy about it :P

    5. the new destruction effect for Romulan ships... very nice. I know that's not UI either, but still looks good :P

I like the new UI, and it is definitely a grower and maybe some finer touches and colours could be added.

What would be great is some preset HUD templates, which then had the coloured LCARS bands connecting the various HUD elements.

But thus far a thumbs up from me :)

I'm not sure if this is in the works, but with the UI overhaul, the sector maps look really dated and horrid now, they really do need revamping so they fit in with the rest of the new UI.

    Character Select:

It is showing my shuttle, not my Vesta. It says my Vesta is current ship.

    Creation:

I don't know of the inability to rotate character in Race screen would have bothered me, but since Hav mentioned it, I keep trying to and can't.
I like the presets staying when I hit advanced, that way I can pick something that is close to what I want, and go from there.

Mouth accessories (beards, etc.) aren't working.

    In game:

New popups on ground look good. It would be neat that if I moved it to a location on my screen, it would save that location and always pop up there, or at least if that was an option I could turn on.

Up in the air on the viewscreen in space when talking to someone. If it changed to fit whatever ship I was on, that would be cool.

HUD changing when Red Alert is SWEEEEEET!

I could go an find things that might need improved, and I will do that, but my overall first impression is that I love the new UI.

Quickly jumped on to see. I like the new direction of the UI.

The power level section, for me, is a bit murky in identifying my actual power levels. That said, I do like the color coded part.

I love the 3d model in the character screen. Really like the creation screen. I like the LCARS-ish style, though the color palette is a bit "off" to me. The darker blue matched with the yellow-ish is alright, but seems a odd.

The only thing that I really dislike is the change in Friend/Foe indication color. I love blue, I would like my friends (from actual friends, to NPCs) to stay as it currently is. I like having blue as allies, white as team, and red as enemies.

Appreciate the "quality of life" things you'll are working on and hope that good feedback leads to good changes.

On the speed indicator in sector space, there is no 'full throttle' option like in system space (makes sence), is there a change we could get the quantum slip stream button added there? It's kind of sector spaces version of full impulse, it could be greyed out for players not high enough level to of unlocked it. This would help remove power tray clutter, as well as fill the wierd space abive the throttle in sector space.

1 - Dialogue window is too large.

2 - The text is clear and easy to read.

3 - The Space HUD is especially clear.

4 - The KDF HUD is a MAJOR improvement.

5 - The 3D rendered ships and crew in the character status window is welcome, but I suspect it'll have a negative effect on slower machines.

According to the LOR page, there will be colour pallets to select from, I guess they're not implemented yet.

The alternate color palettes are available right now, but due to a bug in the current build, the option for selecting the color palette isn't available. However, it is possible to edit GamePrefs.pref and manually select one of the alternate color palette by adding a new PrefEntry for ColorPalette.

    e.g.
    PrefEntry ColorPalette Federation

The available color palettes are Federation, TNG, Voyager, Klingon, Gorn, Orion, Romulan, and Reman. The color palettes with the greatest differences are Federation, Klingon, and Romulan. The remaining color palettes are based off of one of the faction generic color scheme so there'll be some similarities.

I happen to like the new UI. It feels very Star Trek overall. :)

I would suggest that when in combat, the various elements where they turn red/dark brown? actually blink or fade in/out.

Similar to when on Voyager it'd go dark, and all you'd see is the red alert blinking.

    Here's a clip to illustrate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFzufch254k

Honestly, my first impressions seemed mixed. On one hand I like it and another I don't.

Character Select: I like it and I don't. I honestly miss the captain's chair. But it is nice to see your ship right behind you, but instead of bland starfield, I rather see the old Captain's Chair with a hologram of your ship behind you.

Also, be nice if the ship and captain are centered on the screen. The ships were just way too high. And the captain was off to the side.

Character Creator: It's much easier to go back and forth changing your looks, changing your sex, race, or class right there without scrolling back and having to redo it.

Also, very disappointed that we no longer can choose our traits (guess that's the "advanced trait" that was mentioned. But some races get a far more greater advantage with traits over others. I think this needs to be revisited.

General UI: Honestly, I'm not too fond of it. Too much blank space to me.

Chat Window: Very disappointed that I can't change channels like with the current model, instead I have to go fishing in the drop-down (well side-side) menu or click on a tab.

Also, could not access the private channels outside of preset Tabs.

Toolbar: Still has the MAJOR Flaw of not saving the items in the Device slot when you change items. Whatever I put in Device Slot 1, should stay in the same toolbar slot I assigned it when changing items. (This also goes for Space Powers.)

For Example: I'm facing Breen, I want to switch out my Borg Tribble for a Cryo Tribble, right now I'd lose time by having to fish for it in the Power Tray to put on the Toolbar to use. Then do it again for another tribble or item.

Also, when you run out of hypos, you have to again reassign the position for another stack.

This is a major problem that needs to be addressed!

Minimap: Extremely difficult to read the Clock and the Zone name.

Accolade Page: Needs that much requested improvement.

Mission Available: Be nice if we can hide missions we don't want to see.

    Paper Doll:

Captain Page: Suggest switch Shield and Kit.

Station Tab: Be nice if the Tabs were color coded due to BOFF profession, and with the Universal Station tab, the colors of the BOFFs are colored so it's easier to find the BOFFs you need.

Reputation: Tholian Reputation......needs a picture (not happy about it saying "Nukara", I hate that place).

T2 Reputation Info ...........you guys literally copy and pasted, didn't you?

T3 Icons show Space, but is Ground
T4 Icons show Ground, but is Space

    Skill Tab:

I'm disappointed futher improvements was not added. This is the one area that needs more explaining for players since they really have no idea what these skills do for them.

For Example: What does having 3 Green Shield does for me compared to maxing out the skill?

Or how does skill points impact my equipment? What does having a skill of 50 do for me? Is it good?

    That sort of thing.

    Trait Tab:

This Tab REALLY needs some major explaining. I really had no idea what I was doing and started clicking. I'm guessing you choose your BOFF traits?

I'm randomly clicking between "Superior Pacificist" and "Superior Predatory" and just thinking why does a Caitain trait now belong to my BOFFs? And just imaginging all my BOFFs with 100% jump improvement.

Space UI: All contacts are Green.

Chat Window: When creating the second chat window, be nice if we could move some of the tabs up than having to re-create them.

Would have more input but Tribble just crashed. :P

All in all, the new LCARS format improves all but the normal UI you stare at all the time. I feel that UI needs the most attention right now.

    7. The char Targeting screen is a big block, bring back the round Classic Ones in the new Color Scheme

I think its the outline on it, it just doesn't seem to fit on it properly, maybe I'll make a few mockups of how to fix it and post them over the weekend. I don't think its the size of it thats the issue though, just the way the outline is one it. Alsom the colour seems off, maybe having the LCARS in the hud colour scheme, then having the outline around the image either red, orange or green to dictate if the target is freindly or not.

I personally like the UI, but it's very confusing. Perhaps there should be an "intermediate" UI, something to bridge the gap between old and new. Then again, there's always the option of choosing between the current UI in Holodeck and the new one in Tribble and allowing the players to choose between said UI's.
    Rejoice JJ Trek people....

    Character Selection:

Not a fan of the whole floating in Space thing, would like the Character Creation backdrop with my ship and shuttle in the background.

It currently is showing me in one of my uniform presets, but not the one I'm wearing. It is also showing my default shuttle in the background, but on my tribble only character it shows my actual ship.

The Rename button is showing under the text that describes my Gender/Race. I'm a Male Liberated Borg Human, which is probably one of the longer descriptions. Probably could stack the Rename and Delete buttons or make the panel wider.

    Space UI Federation:

I like how its sleek and clean, but not massively different then the current other then looks. Contrast might be a little on the high side, making the darker elements too passive.

I'd like to second the idea that abilities be color coded by their classification (Tactical, Science, Engineering).

Red Alert button is wonky, likely to those buttons being narrower then on Live.

Enable Astrometics - can we hide this button in the options somewhere or put it on the side of the mini-map maybe under Hail Starfleet? I never use it and its always on my screen.

The Viewscreen confirmation panel that pops up when changing sectors is rather large, maybe smaller is better here.

It would be nice if in Sector Space the Full Impluse button on the Throttle UI turned into a Slipstream button.

    Ground UI Federation:

Again the contrast, especially with darker colors, might need adjustment. When the UI goes into red alert mode its barely noticeable.

I like to have 3 bars showing, and the EV suit controls stack on top of that, this makes the whole thing very tall, maybe the EV UI could be moved to the left side above the Weapon controls.

    General UI:

Stations tab on the Character window seems to have made the seats taller. On live I don't have to scroll to see all my space assignments for my shuttle and ship, as well as my Standard away team. If this could be condensed a bit so scrolling isn't needed that would be appreciated.

Consider making the Replicator a Tab on the Inventory window instead of a button to open another window.

The Currency tab could be made more efficient with new currencies expect to be coming in the future. EC and GPL could probably be condensed into one General Currency section. The Dilitium section also takes a lot of space and probably could be laid out better.

Tribble seems to have gone down while working on this, so I haven't looked at the DOFF UI yet, though I don't imagine it will be massively different.

Overall I really like the changes, looking forward to seeing the refinements in future builds.

Whilst the UI is been overhauled, I'd like to make a suggestion that has been made several times in the past (and even hada mod made to do it)

    • Give abilities in the trays colour coding so you can see if its a tactical, science or engineering abilty.
As it stands, many icons look very similar, the lack of colour between them can make identifying a skill at a glance quite hard (more so in a combat siutuation). Maybe just altering the background colour behind the icon, or maybe the border of it, to red, blue or yellow, could help tell icons apart alot faster. Maybe even change the icon logo to the colour of the branch, but keep the background colour faction specific? (I'm aware this latter idea might require more work though as it would require alpha masks for altering the hue).

Eitherway, this is a feature many have brought up over the years and this seems like the best time to actually address it, what with there been a UI overhaul and there are members of the Dev team currently assigned to it ;-)

I agree! It's silly people have to use UI Mods to do this.

Some notes from what I saw.

Not a huge fan of the new character select screen, if we don't have the bridge shots anymore i suggest going back to the old transporter rooms. However the screen after that I am in love with. Character Creator is great, the presets are will be great help.

Now I do imagine some of work still being done with the new dialog boxes. Like your bridge officers being put in the view screen. In my opinion, i'd rather have it the old way unless you can add some backdrops behind the character in the view screen.

Also some mission Notes. I just happened to play Temporal Ambassador, because it was available to me easily at the time. In the cutscenes where your suppose to see my character, you actually end up seeing the starship. Quite an interesting site to see a Oddy crammed inside the freighter, and an ambassador on the transporter pad.

All in all I liked the UI changes, after you get past the opening shock of how different it is.

Some of you could try to use the devtracker; all that's relative to traits is one massive construction site, the color of target is relative to its friendliness (green friend/orange enemy, forgot the third)...
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class.
Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider.
    Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.

Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!

This is a huge step in the right direction. However the UI does look to Dull. its contrasts alot with the much high graphics environments. Especially on the ground. In space though somewhat on the ground too the boxes different UI elements are in are to big or blocky.

Overall nicely done! but its still got a ways to go :)
