Coming from a guy who claimed that (if memory served) something wasn't in a game on its launch, it does not make sense to introduce it, cause people won't use it anyways, I guess thats good.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Is it the same Jack Emmert that once said that microtransactions makes him want to die ? he looks pretty healthy to me
"Cryptic Studio’s Jack Emmert (2010): Microtransactions are the biggest bunch of nonsense. I like paying one fee and not worrying about it – like my cellphone. The world’s biggest MMO isn’t item based, even though the black market item GDP is bigger than Russia … microtransactions make me want to die.”
Why would that come as a surprise to him? Star Trek's IP has an enormous fan base compared to the CoH IP. This is like being surprised the sky is blue.
It's good to hear the game is doing well though.
I think you are forgetting the fact that COH was the first major superhero MMORPG. So regardless of the specific IP it was based on, it attracted all types superhero fans(DC, Marvel, etc). While the Trek IP has a large fanbase, I wouldnt say its larger than all the fanbases attracted by the first superhero MMO.
Also: That's great, Jack. For what it's worth, those of us who stuck with CoH until the end - and saw it become, IMO, a much better game after you moved on - don't miss you either.
Considering they're apparently selling LTS'es for Neverwinter without giving them any sort of currency consideration...
That isn't happening. You cannot purchase a subscription, lifetime or otherwise, to Neverwinter. No such subscription exists, and as the linked article reiterates, none is expected to ever exist.
What you can purchase is a bundle of account unlocks for a discounted price. Discounted off of what they're expected to cost, or what equivalent items in the case of the exclusives, are expected to cost in the store after launch.

So? I would bet Trek has a larger fanbase internationally than US comic superheros do. CoH wasn't based on anything from Marvel or DC, so you didn't see any of the signature characters like Batman and Superman in it. Were that true, CoH would've had subs counted in the millions. It didn't have anything even close to that number.
The Avengers alone has very nearly taken in as much money, adjusted for inflation, as all the Star Trek movies combined, including 2009.
If you don't adjust for inflation, it's blown them out of the water.

It's a sub by another name, except this time they don't have to actually give the buyer anything after the initial purchase. Everyone here knows Neverwinter is going to be nothing but a parade of cash-shop catastrophes, and Cryptic is positioning themselves in such a way so that they can suck money from everyone in equal measure, instead of paying lip service to the idea that subscribers (lifetime or otherwise) get something extra.
Of course Star Trek Online is much bigger than City of Heroes. We have to travel thousands of light years to get anywhere. City of Heroes is pretty much confined to a couple of Cities, a bunch of islands, and a few cities in other realities where we only have access to a few blocks. I wouldn't be surprised if all of City of Heroes was confined to the size of a State. In fact Star Trek Online is even bigger than most MMOs. Eve might be bigger than Star Trek Online, but I don't play that game so I am not sure. The Old Republic is close to this game in terms of size, but its effective travel size is much smaller since everything is automated.
Heh, right. I doubt the fanbase of this game would fight as tooth and nail as the one from CoH did (and still is) if it died.
They'd be stepping over each other's corpses to be the first one to say, "I told you so! This is what happens when you don't stick to Gene's vision. Narf!"

2) Redirecting to a blog posting instead of the actual interview isn't going to win you any fans.
Thank you.
OR... He got a bonus for saying that... Somehow he seems to me like a man that would do that.

The lengths Jack seems to occasionally go to so that he can dump on his own previous work really perplex me sometimes.
I'm sure your DPS is great, but as Kahless said, "a petaQ with high system mastery is still a petaQ." (Well, he should have said it...!)
I am not sure I know what that means... Elaborate please?
No stipend. Pony up your hundreds of bucks and get just as screwed by the equivalent of their dilith market as everyone else.
Basically, a lifetime sub without the benefits of a sub (unless I'm grossly misreading things).
Well i guess that confirms my theory that Subs are now unwanted by Cryptic.

No it wouldn't, DCU is plenty of proof of that. Not to mention that Marvel has scrapped 2 different concepts for MMO's.

"Two full factions......"
I do believe, we're STILL, waiting on this.

Far as I can tell he's measuring the size of the game world in make-believe light years.
Which.
I don't know. I just don't know sometimes.
Another point to consider, what does "BIGGER" mean exactly?
