I fully acknowledge that I'm biased in the matter but I always thought it was weird how the Admiral said the Connie was "almost 20 years old" disparagingly in Search for Spock. I mean, these aren't cars we're talking about, they're spaceships; if you're building them with the intention of ditching them barely two decades down the line, that's a hell of a lot of trouble and expense to go through.
I think a much better rationale could have been given in that movie had Admiral Morrow said 'Well Jim, your ship is trashed - best to start over with a new one rather than try to repair it.'
Khan did a real number on it, and it showed, and it would have been a neat additional bit of damage he did - not only did he kill Spock but also the Enterprise, Jim Kirk's other great big love. And you're right, two decades is barely anything for something like that. In actuality, that line is wrong anyway - Seach for Spock takes place in 2285, and TOS takes place between 2265 and 2269 which would make the Enterprise closer to 40 years old than 20, as Chris Pike commanded the Enterprise for two consecutive five-year missions, and Captain Robert T. April did one himself before him (although, Morrow may have been referring to the ship in its 'refit' state).

The wiki lists the enterprise as commisioned in 2245 and the enterprise a as decomissioned in 2293 so thats 48 years of just the enterprise. and we do know she wasn't the first or last of her class so its entirely possible that constitution class vessels were in use for around 60 years.
As a time traveller, Am I supposed to pack underwear or underwhen?

The Enterprise-A was actually the USS Yorktown that was renamed in honour of Kirk and co. saving everyone from the Whale Probe. The original Enterprise was destroyed in orbit of the planet Genesis. But yeah I agree with the main thrust of your point anyway.

I was just pointing out that we know the constitution was in service for 48 years. I didnt find a commission date for any other vessel and we know that the yorktown was a refit of an origional constitution class so the hull is at least 40 years old anyway. If the regristry numbers are anything to go by the enterprise was build before the yorktown and was aparently the 3rd of her class while the yorktown was 18th. Either way build date not withstanding we can assume that all constitution class vessels were decomissioned by 2400 and the the first was built some time between 2230 and 2240.
Actualy looking at the service dates the origional enterprise had the longest service life of any of the enterprises.
How does the fleet refit compare to the Galor?
As I had the excel rear admiral version loved it,
upgraded to the Galor but being a true fan of the shape.

A close second? stat wise its slightly weaker in most areas except hull ans instead of a 3rd sci console its gets a 4th tac. you are stuck with 3 engineer stations however so its boff layout isnt as flexable but its a good alternative if you dont have a galor the fleet assault cruiser is tied imho.

The Fleet Excelsior has much higher hull but lower shields, more balanced power settings, no Universal slot (the Lieutenant is always a Science officer instead), the Ensign slot is Engineering rather than Science, and it has a 4th Tactical console rather than a 3rd Science one. It's a touch more sluggish, though.

I'm tempted to fit it with the spiral wave disruptors, I tried single cannon build,
but it's just too slow for that config.

with the breen engines and 2 purple mk xi rcs consoles I get 15.8 degrees a second out of mine. with minimal engine power but high efficiency, warp core potential, and engine power skills.
The romulan set engines are supposed to have the highest turn mod available but IDK since the breen engines add 7.5 to engine power.

Yeah, I do like that one. Nearest thing we'll have to that design is that Andorian Battle Cruiser most likely...
Actually the Xindi Aquatic Cruisers look like larger versions of that ship. As for the Excelsior, I finally took a look at the fleet one. And I have determined that it basically makes any of the previous DPS/tanks outdated. Except for the Tactical Odyssey. It's console setup is that of the FPE, but it's only weakness (thank god it has one) is it's BOff setup. Too much Engineering. But it's a cruiser, so that's that I guess.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.

There was a Connie refit at wolf 359 and star fleet kept all but one of the star ships from that era in star fleet. It's safe to say they were not decommissioned.
I got mine today. Must say i love it! Its perfect for my wrath of kahn era admiral, who was flying the c-store one. 900 more hull points then my oddy, tougher sheilds, a 4th tac console slot, and transwarp to tau dewa. What more could ya ask for? I think its just great the way it is.
