I own a Vesta and i went for the sci/tac build. Vesta is not OP. A good build in an escort has nothing to fear, the best case scenario in 1vs1, Vesta vs escort is a draw. In most cases that I went against escorts builds from players that I know that they have very good build is not to be able to cause significant damage to each other. The same applies for cruiser builds. ( So we both break and hunt other players )
What the Vesta offers is that it can bite the weaker builds of cruisers, escorts, science ships. Are there any weak builds on Vesta. Yes there are, but because of the versatility of the ship, they might not be to obvious. In a team, the Vesta can do multiple roles.
In a Vesta you can not much the DPS of an escort of, the healing of a cruiser, the crowd control of a science. But you can do all in moderate numbers. In my opinion Vesta offers a little of DPS, a little of tanking, a little of crowd control. Pair up with a good build of any other ship and you have an edge. That is the reason I believe that most complain that it is OP.
In order to make a good build, you have to respec, test, spend EC and dil for equipment, etc. Every player has his own playing style, hence builds from good players can offer advice, but they are perfect for their playing style. Most players will share their builds but not their tactics on how they use them, or they will share only the basics.
Yes it has strong points but its not indestructible and the toys it has are just that Gimmicks/Toys
I mostly PvE and i see allot of vestas around and once they've used there tricks they die like the rest of us
Its not the ship what is op 9/10 it the captain flying the ship, outside factors(teammates) and decision making that wins in the end
The amount of times ive had to evasive up to a cube taking chunks out of it whilst healing a half dead vesta that has run out of bunny's to pull out of its hat
I'm not that good of a pilot but ive seen people in tier 3 bops doing better damage and crowd control than most fed piloted vestas
----=====This is my opinion you don't have to listen and no one else has to read them these "OPINIONS" are based on my exploits and my learning other people will have their opinions and that's fine just don't knock my way of doing things thanks=====----
Yes it is, i've blown many Vestas with my own one or with my tac. It's a ship requiring a lot of experience to fly, in pvp or even in pve, because it's very fragile, even if it's quite powerful. Its most powerful element is the turnrate, combined with canons and turret procs. There are more resilient, more sci and more agile ships (i'm thinking to my wells) but the vesta has somehting more: it can run only a handful of science abilities (you have to use the LtCmdr as a HE/TSS boff to survive) but it can use them at full aux while dealing some damage. Some. Not much but it can make a difference.
The major weakness is of course the fact that it's a paper ship with no hull and no engineering console slots, it reminds me of my old rear admiral RSV, and it will be extremely weak against other scis, since your best heals will happen over time. I'm used to my fat and ultra tanky recluse (with a sci boff in the universal slot), now the major difference is that I can hunt with my team instead of being the siege machine everyone has to gravitate around.
personally i havent pvped in sto in years(due to the c-store)but when i fly my eng/vesta in pve i can stare down most anything even bosses like donatra can throw at me(cept the aoe plasma cone of death without the consoles) due to my experience shield tanking in sto. ill let donatra throw a torp alpha in my face flip the grav shielding on rsp HE2 TSS2 and TT1 and i only take 10% hull dmg and no/minimal shield dmg lol. so yeah the vesta works as advertised, its a multi-role ship with many things it can do,but it is the best tank ingame(for 10secs :P)

I too have the vesta... I am currently using the Strategic one for the 3 Engi Consoles 3 Tac Consoles and 4 Sci consoles.... and I HAVE gone into PVP with it and seriously the Hangar is not all that great with its 60 second cooldown (if you are using danubes) and its slow launch time I dont feel that it turns fast enough to make the best use of the cannons... unless I want to put on a couple RCS consoles but then that hurts what little hull I have to begin with so thats not an option for me... another reason the cannons are not viable for me is the fact that I would have to use my LCMDR UNI station for a tac officer to at least get any kind of decent damage spike from them....
as for the vesta being an OP ship or UBER OP as some have said, that is utter twaddlespeak....
what makes the ship op is the fact that some compitent captains are using them (most vestas do not have a compitent player at the helm) and in my opinion its fairly fragile once you get passed the shields

and I do control thier movement, Tractor Beam, Gravwell, Viral Matrix, Graviton Pulse generator... these work for me getting you to sit still long enough for the rest of my team to pound on you...I dont need DPS I need to make sure Im working well with my team mates I dont need to be the highest DPSING thing out there I make up for it with cross healing when needed and my crowd control
