Anyone Else Getting Random Black Screen Lately?

This really started out of no where after I started going on the Foundry again.

I play in windowed mode, and yet STO has not given me this issue in some time. It's not that frequent, maybe every couple of hours, this is a tad annoying because I have ot then manually turn off my laptop which isn't really the best thing to do lol.

Anyone else start to get this?

Since season 7 was put on Tribble and now is live, I've had problems with the game going completely black screen even few moments and Windows 7 keeps giving me the error 'Display driver igfx stopped responding and has successfully recovered.' I have had no problems with graphics issues on this laptop i3, intel 2000 computer but now it does the same thing regardless of the set resolution, fullscreen or windowed or the detail settings set. STO S7 is the only program causing this issue. Seems that season 7 added graphics changes that hopefully can be resolved. I have updated to the latest Intel drivers as well and that does not solve the problem. The game has worked fine for me all the way to season 6.

I've had the same problem myself... ever since Season 7 started on tribble... now that its on holo... game is practically unplayable...

Graphics are at the lowest setting... but still has problems

    Reference the following:
    http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=431901

this has been reported during testing devs...

Also for those who aren't sure which intel driver they need or if its up to date or not, reference the following:
    http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect?iid=dc_iduu

it'll auto detect your stuff using some java... theres a few permissions but its brainless :) Promise. :)

I've been having the same problems as well. Any of the new missions that I've tried to go into had ended with my computer freezing and becoming unresponsive. This never happened before Season 7 was implemented. :(

yep... not answer this one... can you look toward the holo image of the ship in the docking bay at DS9? I cant... freezes my machine up hard enough I nearly have to get out a blow torch to thaw it out... Hard boot fixes it.. but thats about it. Seems to be the image itself... not the light coming off it.. as long as I dont let it get on my screen i'm covered and can move.

All of the older content seems to work just fine. The main issue is with the new content, any new missions will completely mess up my computer in which I'm forced to shut it down and restart again.

Has there been any resolution to this problem? I updated my video drivers for Intel HD Graphics and NADA...still getting the flickering black screens, then a crash/ or freeze of the game, then the blue screen of death. What's going on.?? Last night the game played terrific. Now its unplayable. There has to be a solution? Or do I have to quit the game?? My computer is barely 1 year old.

I have the same problem and have been positing on all the threads I could find about it. No word yet on a solution.
Yes it seems like all the new content is bugged but the older stuff is fine.

Here ya go cryptic... Error Ticket # 14182686

Gotta love that new code, just logged into a toon standing by quinns office on ESD and BAM!

"Fatal Error: Direct3D Driver returned error code
    (DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED) while creating a texture.

    Technical Details: DXGI_DEVICE_REMOVED while creating 2D texture size 64 x 64 (7mips, RTEX_DXT5), 1.55 GB RAM, 1.19GB virtual space available"

Now thats a brand spanking new error message that has never even graced this system before. Congratulatory messages to you in its creation. How about a fix Devs?

I am having the same exact problem. Now, with the screen going black, dumping to desktop, then popping back up, and occasionally freezing to the point I have to do a hard power cycle on my computer, the game is literally unplayable. No issues before season 7 at all.

I have been having a issue as well, but I haven't been able to fix it. Graphics drivers are the most recent version, and graphics are set to the lowest settings as it is. So I don't know.

Whatever it is you guys did between Season 6 and Season 7, it's forcing my Intel graphics accelerator to stop responding and then recover - even when the game is in full safe mode - every 5 or 6 seconds.

    The message it gives is:

DISPLAY DRIVER STOPPED RESPONDING AND HAS RECOVERED: Display driver Intel Graphics Accelerator Drivers for Windows 7(R) stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

I never had this problem before Season 7.

Sounds to me like most of you are using the integrated Intel graphics chip set. This is not really intended for gaming, I'm sorry to say.

Yes, you can run the game, but it's not a dedicated graphics card, like the ATI Mobilty Radeon, or other dedicated graphics cards. The dedicated cards have more ram, have much better cooling, and are generally better all around for gaming, or other procesess that needs heavy graphic rendering.

It might be someting has changed in the graphics code with S 7, but hopefully this will get fixed by Cryptic...

    I hope this helps...

You can't call 'working as intended' on this one, otowi. The game went from running smooth as silk at medium high settings on my integrated chipset to OMFG HANG HANG BLACK SCREEN CRASH DUMP LOCK literally overnight. EVEN WHEN RUNNING THE GAME IN SAFE MODE.

Season 7 has borked something majorly. Hopefully the devs will pay attention to this thread, as it is literally game-crippling.

Yeah, have to agree with that statement, game was perfect for me up until yesterday.
Same problems here, flicking to desk top before a major brain freeze on the PC.
This makes the game totally unplayable which is a shame seeing as I'm hooked...

that'll be a 3rd agreement here. My intel card shares my system memory... i got 4 gigs onboard... plus 1.5 more on the card itself

What really pisses me off, was that I was using some of the highest game settings as of 24 hours ago for STO, now, the game is unplayable a mere 24 hours later. Disgusting...simply disgusting. Intel HD graphics card here too.

Having the same problem, game ran perfectly up until the season 7 patch. I updated my graphics drivers (also using Intel HD) this morning and I've also tried setting STO to use DX9 instead of 11 and disabling on demand patching, using DX9 seemed to reduce the amount its happenig but the game is still unplayable.

Yup logged in today and bam not even 2 min and it started the crashing. as for my video card being a intel. B.S. If I can play WoW on high settings without it crashing there is no reason that now that season 7 is here I can't play. Hell I have been in the game since the beta was out. Now I may just leave for good. many other good games run fine on my system. :(

After patching to season 7, boom! Driver stopped working, recovered and it happen again and again until BSOD. Updated the drivers but that didn't solve anything.

Anyway, I just filed a ticket and hope they do something about it soon.

Glad to know I'm not the only one (yes, misery seeks company). I though there was some file corruption on my system that would require lots of tech snooping and solution on my part.

Getting the same problem. screen goes to black and back again a few times before it freezes my laptop and I have to reboot. I went from full screen to windowed and saw my I7 was on fire lol also got this message:

"Display driver Intel Graphics Accelerator Drivers for Windows 7(R) stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

Yes I've only got the hd chip thing but it was working perfectly before season 7. Heard this has been going on since it went on tribble too so why wasn't it fixed before going live on the holodeck? Unless the devs have decided to remove what I think would be a large percentage of players from the game of course?

Hopefully they will patch this during thursday maintenance...i am a beta vet and i pre-orderd this game and paid monthly to play it without a care because i enjoyed it but ever since S7 went on tribble, I have been having trouble doing anything with my fleet on tribble and now I can't do anything with them on Holodeck. This strikes me as VERY poor form on cryptics part as they have had over a month to assess and fix this issue...

It's not a hardware problem. It's an issue with whatever they screwed up in the Season 7 code. They got a ton of reports about it on Tribble and chose to push it live anyway. Devs have been silent on the issue, so your guess is as good as mine when it will be addressed, if it is addressed at all.

To be honest, I don't know why they even bother with a test server when they always just go right on ahead and push game-breakers such as this through every time.

Does anyone else feel unnerved that no Devs have mentioned this?. On the bright side, I did mention this problem to Taco. By bringing this to his attention - he said he would try to send this information to the Cryptic Graphic Support Team, however, until the problem is resolved I'm still sitting on pins and needles.

I did post this problem in the PWE Support Forum and this was my exact response from a Tech and I quote:

"The game update is huge. On demand patching may be slow for you. You can try turning it off and wait it out to be fully updated.

You can post links to your dxdiag.txt and hijackthis logs, and we can take a look at your system."

It was nice to receive a response, but at the same time, this problem is simply not going to go away, or be able to be swept under the carpet, or I will have to quit playing STO because it is unplayable until a fix patch goes live.

Oh, they know about it. It was brought to their attention well before it went live. They had plenty of opportunity to look into it. But instead they chose to ignore what they knew to be game-breaking and push it live anyway. That to me is the most disturbing aspect of this.
