Hive Onslaught - fix it or cut it

A pve for 5 people, after about 5 deaths each just to kill the guardians, the 2 weapons protecting the queen ammounted to about 25+deaths each person without a single successfull destruction of either of the 2 weapons.... To put it simply they have incorporated too many repair and tractor spheres along with too many probes protecting the weapons, not to mention the over abundant damage the 2 weapons inflict just themselves..... I got hit by a single plasma torpedo for easy 89,000dmg one hit kills from almost every weapon they defend themselves with. So devs you all must have really been hitting the crack pipe when you designed that mission for only 5!

Too much hassle for not enough rewards. It's not that its too hard, it's just not really worth the effort or time any more.

Unless you were super close to the target, you should have ample time to shoot down torps headed your way. Maybe it's easier on an escort running cannons and turrets but I shoot them down fairly quick without being off my main target for more than a couple seconds?

Oh and you may wish to edit your post some, otherwise that last line is gonna get this edited and/or locked by staff..

It is a definite overkill even for elite. Should be for a fleet of 20 to25 ships.

This. Even cure isn't worth bothering with anymore. Do ISE and maybe KASE once a day and your solid, anything more and your just wasting timr that could be spent slamming your head on the brain dead dilithium pinata in SB24

Yea... Hive Space Elite is insane.
First... 6 Tac cubes, and they expect us to kill them all in 10 minutes for the optional. Possible in a team of only full DPS Escorts. Maybe.
Next... Command Ships of Doom. Unless you got Power Drains on top of Power Drains... its just impossible. The frickin' Superlasers have a 20 Km range (Granted they aren't entirely accurate at times thankfully), Insta death Torpedo Spreads, Regen Probes that constantly come back...
Normal Command Ship tactics DO NOT WORK!
Tried my usual Circle the top spike. Died left and right. Tried parking right in its face in hopes that the Plasma Bolt would do lots of damage. NEGATED by Regen Probes that appear pretty much instantly after one Regen is destroyed. Even tried Harsh Language. And it is actually made worse by the increasing respawn timer. Whole team dies, back to Square One.
Hive Space Elite was actually the first STF I Rage Quit.

In short... this mission is NOT balanced for a team of 5.

I was actually in a good team today and on my first run we completed Into the Hive Space Elite with all optional successful, so it is possible, just takes a lot of team coordination, which we had, everyone was a team player, and was watching what was going on with everyone else, so everyone acted accordingly, like turning tail and running to stay alive when other people died, so we'd maintain the optional. It all worked, and we succeeded, over 100 marks for it.

Now, Into the Hive Ground Elite is another story, way too hard, they need to nurf it, and make the electro platforms also kill the borg that are on the square.

I guess it is finally a space STF worth playing for the challenge ? that cannot be steamrolled by 5 tac escorts ? Interesting, I will check it out today !

I only tried it once so far in Elite too and it was pretty sick. We were in there an hour and I used up an entire stack of components. In the end we gave up after we had the queen diamond down to 30% and finally we all died and she reset to 100% health. That moment was just soul crushing.

At least for Pugs this mission is just insane, right at the start one players aggros all 6 elite tac cubes at once, then they refuse to read the team chat and continue suiciding when we are all on 75 second death timer and would need a break to get that timer reset. Two guys in the team were flying with about 30 injuries, including a ton of critical ones. Fun times.

Still, I enjoy the challenge. But as other people mentioned, this is NOT a mission I'll grind for marks. There is really no reason to do this except for the challenge. Are there are least Accolades for beating this?

Also, can anyone tell me how feedback pulse works? Whenever the diamond activated that I more or less insta-popped. I know it returns damage. But how, is it a fixed amount per shot? Per second? Is there a max range?

My first run was nigh impossible - only 1 tac escort (died so many times, I stopped counting).

My second run was successful, but without the optional (died 6x)

My third run was successful, with the optional (died 4x).

WE LEARNED. WE GOT BETTER. WE PLANNED.

Just as CURE Elite space was tough, in the end we got it. It took time, ultimatly a fleet consisting of:

    1 TAC Klingon siege.
    1 Human Tank (Odyssey, engineer)
1 Human Sci, running a Vesta
2x Human Defiants (1 running a nasty spread of mines, the other all DPS)

The SCI is a must for shield draining. The two escorts and the siege for DPS. Took a while, but frankly IT WAS FUN.

    How did we do it?

1.) start from the top down on the TAC CUBE stack.

    2.) Pull back, focus fire

3.) Don't PANIC at the wave of spheres - they only come once.

4.) Last CUBE and 3 Spheres are tough... for time.

5.) Stay ABOVE or BELOW the Unimatrix Mutherfrakkers. Focus on ONE ONLY - the usual - regen probes first. They tend to fire 4x a combo of attacks. after that they slow down waiting to recharge.

6.) DON'T ATTACK SINGLY - WORK AS A GROUP - WAIT FOR YOUR RESPAWNS.

7.) The Queen has 1.6+ million Hull. Likely the same in shields. Protect and heal your sci ship while it drains her shields. Use your tank as fodder (sorry).

8.) Wear her down in waves. Once she drops her shield her hull drops quickly (well not quickly, but quicker than her shields).

9.) SHE WILL RECHARGE - DO NOT WORRY - 1 WAVE CAN TAKE 20% OF HER SHIELDS.
10.) Stop and enjoy the moment when she dies.

    It can be done.

The real problem, as usual, is the multitude of un-resistible one-shot kills the Borg throw at you.

I mean I get that the lance weapon is supposed to be a punishment for not being in the right position and the game flags this to you. No, I'm not talking about that - I'm talking about the torpedo spreads that do 100k damage to half the team.

yea, but was reading the elite channels and nobody shouts to team for any ground anymore, they only shout for ISE, KASE most of time and is much less now in compare to before which was almost nonstop teaming shouts. STF'S were very good end game balanced challenge/reward pack and they just killed, they removed the rewards and just left the challenge.

    Kind Regards

Stfs? why? just pug INF S E once per character per day cause its the easist to get optional on and have more omega flakes than you need. The new stf done it once, looks alright problem is as i said above why do it, why do any other stf now than the one that is easiest and will nail it in one fell swoop for the next couple of days. Job done finished. Their PvP content is and always has been a joke. Now their PvE content has joined it. Congrats cryptic your game is now officially the worlds first MMO solos game.

Heheh, people already called it before season 7.

Without map specific rewards people will naturally just go for the easy route.

The map itself great idea in principal putting out something more challenging for the people who walk all over classic stf's.

I thought most of the npc's looked famillar aswell as the background but not a bad map, it's new if nothing else.
Just won't be playing it is all.

Did Hive space yesterday on a PUG... a frigging nightmare. It is doable (we completed - 90 marks withouth the opts) but the rewards are definitely not worth the pain and the amount of regens you will need (i used over 10)

IMHO the mission needs a couple tweaks only. Namely STO needs to undo the "cheats" they used to 'roid the enemies this one:

    - the spheres do more damage than the cubes, anyone noticed?. That just ain't right. Spheres should be like in ISE.

    - We tried pulling a cube at a time but they all aggro at the same time. You can eventually pull 1 or 2 a time but it is way harder than it should be. Cubes should be aggroed only when shot at. Spheres, since escorting the cubes, should be aggroed when their assigned cube is aggroed.

    - Uni ships are same as in invasion. no probs there. People just need to watch out for plasma bolts.

    - The queen can be dealt with by kiting at 8-9 km. But it is unnecessarily long because of her "immortal" shield. Since we have seen no other ship with never-ending insta-regen shield, it feels like cheating. Just make her insta-regen a power with a long cooldown (say 60 sec).

    - The rest is just a matter of strategy. From my experience pugging the opt should be doable with a good team. People will get better at this. But the points i just pointed out have a "baddies are cheating" feel that's very frustrating.

    My 2 cents.

It isn't that bad really, the problem is people are playing it very badly... stick on normal until you "get it" but then why bother? The other STFs are going to give you rewards no different.

You can finish CSE in 7-8 mins, just chain them back to back, its easier.

    Eh I think its fine.
I went in there last night for the first time, and won with the optional, I died twice. I liked the fight with borg queen, i spent half that fight running away and the other half running at her.
The fight with the weapons was no joke, but just kill the regen spheres and they go down quick enough.

Hive space isn't bad if you plan it our right. I've done it a few times and the best tactic I've found was to pull each cube off to the side, and kill them one by one. Once you get that done, the other two guardians are cake. They are just weak versions of the red alert probes.

Granted I've only played this on my Engineer/Cruisers, but the standards 2 tac, 1 sci, and 1 eng should be plenty fine for kicking it's butt.

For the record, I am an experienced player who was working with 3 experienced fleet mates and one PUG. And it was my first time in that particular one. Would have had a full team from the fleet but he missed the window. I was also on my Science character, which wasn't my main. I really find it irritating when people assume you lack skill and call you out on it when you try to do something. Reminds me of this one guy I rezzed on Defera, only to get insulted for "Drawing aggro". I was getting those cortical nodes. Of course I will draw aggro.

So before you call Noob, ask what the circumstances were before writing off someone.

You can't do it because experienced and good players don't queue anymore for elite stfs, so you end up there with noobs not really knowing what to do and how to beat the Borg. I'm sorry but blame the devs for the changes about the STFs rewards. If the rewards remained the same, you'd see that this STF is a lot easier than you think with skilled players with you.

For the record, we did it with our fleet yesterday. First run, all optionals, wtf there's no dil, kthxbye STFs. :D

I did it with all optionals on my main with my fleetmates. It's definitely not made for a pug run unless that pug run is formed from the EliteSTF channel. The only thing I can say is to just go into it with a different mindset than you're used to doing with normal stfs. In fact I had to switch to my pvp boff set up when it was phase 2 and 3.

its funny to see all the tank and spank kiddys freaking out over a STF that actually requires a pull strategy

Phase 1- one person pulls a cube to the team, tries to not aggro the rest of the pack

phase 2- 3 Hug the command ships, putting every debuff they have on them, 2 kite probes away from the "Active" ship

phase 3- CC the diamond to hell and back, when down to only two people alive run diferant directions
