TRIBBLE Maintenance and Release Notes - October 19, 2012

zer0niusrexzer0niusrex Member Posts: 0 Arc User
We will be bringing the Tribble server down for maintenance to apply a new update.
ST.25.20121012a.6

EDITED to add a few missing items.

Embassy Fleet Holding
  • The fleet system has been expanded and players will now have a new holding to progress through.
    • Fleet Members will be able to contribute to projects to earn XP and provisions, and unlock tiers just like with the Starbase Holding.
    • The fleet embassy comprises a single ground map that will receive a cosmetic upgrade and several functional upgrades per tier.
    • Embassy progression is different than starbase progression.
      • The embassy is made up of three total tracks, with three tiers per track.
        • Diplomacy Track
        • Recruitment Track
        • Overall Embassy Track
    • There are all new rewards throughout the Embassy progression that are complimentary to the Starbase Fleet Rewards.
  • Fleet UI
    • The UI has been updated to accommodate the additional holding.
      • There are now arrow keys on the overview page that allow fleet members to scroll between their available holdings.
      • Additionally, on the remaining pages there are tabs on the left hand column of the fleet UI that list the holdings and tiers of those holdings.
  • Fleet Projects
    • A fleet will work together on Fleet Projects in order to progress in this system.
    • Fleet Projects can be thought of as group Duty Officer assignments that require a fleet of people to provide all of the components in order to be started.
    • These projects are selected and slotted by fleet leadership and can then be contributed to by anyone that is in the fleet.
    • All projects have a set "construction" time that must be completed before the rewards are given and the next project can begin.
    • Projects exist in several categories
      • Standard
        • Standard Projects come in Diplomacy and Recruitment flavors.
        • These projects award Fleet XP specific to their category and can also provide a small number of buff provisions.
        • Fleets may have any 2 standard or provisioning projects running simultaneously.
        • Provisioning Projects provide some amount of Fleet XP specific to their category, and also provide a standard number of provisions to a specified Fleet store.
      • Upgrade Projects
        • These projects allow players to upgrade locations and personnel in their Embassy.
        • Fleets can upgrade their department tier, embassy tier, and add upgrades to their interior.
        • These tend to be the most expensive type of project.
        • Fleets may have one upgrade project running at a time.
      • Special Projects
        • Special projects allow fleets to unlock unique cosmetic upgrades for their Embassy interior or allow them to run a project that grants fleet XP to every non Embassy category.
        • Fleets can have one special project running at a time.
    • Provisioning
      • Provisioning projects works slightly differently compared to the Fleet Starbase
        • There is now a single provisioning assignment per track at each tier that provides provisions.
          • If your fleet decides they want to provision a diplomacy item, all diplomacy provisions are provided via a single project.
    • Fleet Marks
      • Fleet Marks can be earned by playing any of the Season 6 content, as well as select pieces of Season 7 Content.
      • The content that grants these Fleet Marks includes but is not limited to:
        • NEW- The Vault Defense: 5- Man
        • NEW - Azure Nebula Rescue: 5 Man
        • NEW - Mining Colony Evacuation: 20 Man
        • Starbase Fleet Defense: 20-Man
        • Starbase Blockade: 5-Man
        • Fleet Alerts: 5-Man
        • No Win Scenario: 5-Man
        • Colony Rescue: 5-Man
      • All of these maps are available 24 hours a day with a 30 minute cooldown for repeating the same mission.
      • There is a calendar event that grants additional fleet marks to any of the missions above.

Reputation System
  • The Reputation System is a way for players to earn status with different factions or groups within the game, while at the same time unlocking items and powers that are specific to that faction or group.
    • When a player logs in they simply go to their status window and will see a new tab called "Reputation".
    • As the player progresses through the system they will unlock powers and the ability to create special items.
    • This system unlocks at level 50.
  • Reputation UI
    • The Reputation UI is located in the status window in a new tab called "Reputation".
    • Clicking "Reputation" will bring up the reputation UI.
      • Available reputation tracks will be located in tabs on the left side of the UI.
    • The progression track UI shows what tier the player currently is, or is working towards, as well as the power that will be earned by completing each tier.
  • Personal Projects
    • A personal project can be thought of as a Fleet Project for a single person.
      • There are some minor differences that will be noted.
    • These projects are selected, slotted, and contributed to by the player
    • All projects have a set construction time that must be completed before the rewards are given and the next project can begin.
    • Personal Projects exist in several categories:
      • XP Projects
        • These projects come in large and small varieties and provide larger quantities of XP for progressing in the system
      • Gear Projects
        • These projects are what players run to earn gear or other rewards from the reputation system while offering more modest XP awards.
      • Tier Up Projects
        • These projects are used to move the player from one tier to the next, while also unlocking a new power along the way
  • Rewards
    • Gear Projects are used to unlock items via the reputation system
      • Some Gear Projects will award you the equipment directly upon acknowledging the project completion, while others will unlock the ability to purchase your new rewards from the Reputation Store.
      • Directly Granted Gear projects operate more like duty officer assignments than fleet provisioning projects.
        • Once a gear project is completed the project will not automatically grant the reward.
          • The player must go into the UI and claim the item from the completed project.
        • Once the reward has been claimed players can then slot a new project in the previously occupied slot.
        • The rewards that fall into this category are as follows:
          • Special Consumables
          • Special or Unique Items
          • Set Gear
      • There is also a store that sells select new items for Dilithium.
        • The reputation Store can be accessed by clicking the "Store" button at the top of your status page for a specific Reputation.
          • Each Reputation has its own unique Store.
        • These stores are unlocked at specific tiers by running an unlock project
          • Once the project has been completed all gear in that category may be purchased directly for Dilithium.
            • For example, running the Mark 12 Plasma Pistol project unlocks the ability to purchase Mk12 Plasma pistols from the store.
        • These items are usually new or thematically related to the reputation they belong to, and are not set or unique items.
    • New Captain Powers
      • Across the five tiers of progression players will unlock a choice between two new abilities at each tier.
        • The first four tiers offer a choice between two powers to the player.
          • The passive can be space OR ground.
        • The fifth tier offers a new click or passive power to players.
          • The click/passive power will be space OR ground.
  • Reputation Specific Marks
    • Reputation Specific Marks are earned by playing any of the missions that are themed and designated mark missions.
      • Romulan Marks are used in the Romulan Reputation Track.
        • The following content provides Romulan Marks as a Reward:
          • Romulan Featured Series
          • The Vault Shuttle Event
          • Azure Sector Daily
          • New Romulus Planet and Instance Missions
          • Select Queued Events
            • The Vault Defense
            • Azure Nebula Rescue
            • Mining Colony Evacuation
      • Omega Marks are used in the Omega Reputation Track.
        • The following content provides Omega Marks:
          • Normal Special Task Force Missions
            • 25% additional Marks for the bonus objective
          • Elite Special Task Force Missions
            • Elite rewards three times the Omega marks of a Normal STF.
            • 25% additional Marks for the bonus objective.
            • Elite also gives an elite omega mark.
              • A token amount of elite marks are required for Mk 12 set gear.
              • Elite marks can also be converted to dilithium through the reputation system.
          • Borg Red Alerts
          • Defera Invasion

Star Trek Gateway:
  • What is Star Trek Gateway?
    • Gateway is a web application which lets you look at your Star Trek captains, ships, bridge officers, and other data from Star Trek Online.
      • Eventually, you will be able to interact with Star Trek Online through Gateway without logging in to the full 3D client.
    • The purpose of Gateway is to let players into Star Trek Online without needing to start up the full client.
    • While Gateway is being tested on Tribble, all of the information it contains will be for the characters on Tribble.
      • It will not display information for characters on Holodeck.
    • Gateway can be accessed here: https://gatewaytest.startrekonline.com/
  • Feedback
    • Star Trek Gateway is in early Alpha, and we look forward to hearing what you think about it.
    • Let us know what you're thinking by posting to this forum topic.
    • If you have technical issues or experience any bugs such as problems using Gateway with your web browser or device, please let us know by posting to this forum topic.
    • Please let us know what operating system and browser, including version numbers, you are using.
    • If you are using a mobile device, let us know which one.
    • Also look at the Known Issues below for a list of things we already know about.
  • Browser Requirements
    • Gateway is tailored to work on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices supporting HTML5.
    • Gateway has been verified to operate on recent versions of Chrome, Opera, Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer.
      • It may work on earlier versions of these browsers.
      • It does not work on Internet Explorer 8 or earlier.
    • Gateway requires the use of cookies.
    • Gateway requires the use of Javascript.
  • Login Issues
  • Cookie Usage
    • A cookie is used to keep track of your session while you using Gateway.
      • This is a "session cookie" and is not kept after you leave the page.
    • A second, persistent cookie is also used by Account Guard to determine if the particular browser install is authorized for use with your account.
      • This cookie contains no account information.
  • Known Issues
    • Gateway does not work on Internet Explorer 8 or earlier.
    • Character changes that occur in the client are not immediately updated on the web. You must log out and back in to see the changes.
    • Pictures of bridge officers do not show the officer in their chosen stance.
    • Pictures of ships do not show additions or changes that come from equipment.
      • For example, Borg equipment.
    • Though Gateway uses the language preferred by your browser, there is some text that is not yet translated.
      • Gateway supports the same languages Star Trek Online does: English, German, and French.

General:
  • Tachyon Harmonic should now display damage floaters and combat log text when used.
  • Updated the audio and FX for Species M-113.
  • Updated the audio and added VO for Into the Hive.
  • Updated the cutscenes for The Vault: Ensnared.
  • Resolved an issue in the Bridge Officer skill window that incorrectly attempted slotting a skill unsupported by the Bridge Officer's current station.
  • Bridge Officer skill powers should now display in the correct order on the Away Team selection window.
  • Resolved an issue that prevented the purchase of Retrain tokens and a few other C-store items.
  • Resolved an issue in which players would sometimes receive injuries when dying on normal difficulty.
  • Updated the rewards for all STFs.
    • They will now all reward Omega Marks.
  • The outdated STF gear store has been removed from DS9.
  • Updated Commander Roxy on DS9 to remove outdated information about STF rewards and add information about the Reputation system.
  • The "Adapted" text for Borg is once again right-side up.

Systems:
  • Mark XI Plasma Dual Pistols should no longer display their primary attack twice in their description.
  • Mark XII Plasma Dual Pistols will no longer be sometimes unable to use their primary attack.
  • Resolved an issue that was sometimes causing Transphasic Bomb to fail to deal damage.
  • The Engineering - EPS Flow Regulator Mk X console no longer displays as an impulse engine.
  • Temporal Disruption Device will now be properly enhanced by Chroniton modifiers instead of Tricobalt.

Known Issues:
  • It is possible to slot both a regular ship and a shuttle at the same time.
    • If you do this, you will be stuck in the shuttle and will NOT be able to switch back to a normal ship on that character.
    • To avoid this, do not switch to your shuttle until we have addressed this issue.
  • Not all the images in the embassy and reputation systems are final.
  • It is not yet possible for players to get to their embassy interiors.
    • This functionality will be included in an update soon.
  • Occasionally, NPCs have a chance of falling through the ground during the Mine Trap event.
  • Reputation System Elite Marks to Dilithium conversion projects are not yet available.
  • Dilithium mission rewards for STFs are temporarily missing.

    If I'm reading this right...

Completing optionals in Normal STFs will be more desirable than completing Elite STFs, given the the Elite STF rewards are set.

THE OPTIONALS ARE BAD. They are team killers.

Even if you changed what they are, it still means you will lose people when one fails.

Your design philosophy and my understanding of this game from playing it are not matching up in some important ways. I think you need to connect your design philosophy to player understanding of the game.

Otherwise, ask Jack Emmert about how well Enhancement Diversification went. (And he was right that something needed to be done there. It was absurd pre-ED. But the problem was that the philosophy needed to be connected with player understanding.) (And be careful on using the acronym when you ask him because I'd imagine asking the CEO about his ED could be all kinds of funny awkward.)

[...]Special projects allow fleets to unlock unique cosmetic upgrades for their Embassy interior or allow them to run a project that grants fleet XP to every non Embassy category.[...]

Does that translate into an additional limited time special *insert 200k dilithium here* project every two weeks?

When a player logs in they simply go to their status window and will see a new tab called ?Reputation?.

You should add to your known issues that quotation marks appear to be non-functional on the forums. :D

Looks like some cool stuff, will definitely test it.

Sets and dilithium, since the only way to get dilithium with the new stfs is to use an elite token into the reputation system to make dil out of it. So...

I'm not following your logic here. Well, at least not the part I quoted. The notes say that you get 3x the marks for elite over normal, so unless you can do normal in less than 1/3 the time it would seem to remain preferable to do elites.

Optionals offering only a 25% bonus seems like a reasonable compromise, you want to give people something to work for but not so important they'll rage quit if it fails. The problem with rage quitting is that it is symptomatic of people believing that if you can't do the optional you can't do the mission in a reasonable time, or that the only thing worth doing is the optional. This would seem like it's more of a bonus than a requirement.

So say normal gives 100 marks... (just an easy number)
Normal would be 100 + Optional of 25 would total 125 marks
Elite would be 300 + Optional of 75 would total 375 marks

I'm not understanding where you are coming from.

    I think you have misread.

optionals give 25% extra ontop of the baseline amount but the elite has a baseline of 3 times greater than normal.

There is no dilithium reward for any STF on tribble currently. And Brandon stated that only elite STFs would reward dilithium. This is consequently the only logical conclusion. No dil for STFs completion. The elite token will be the only source of dil.

So when is tribble back up to test this, i see no notice in the launcher about updating files or anything about it being closed for a update or how long its expected to be down for updating like live usually shows.

Also if it does not give 1100 dilithium per elite stf anymore then im quitting the game, thats the only reason i played stfs to get the free zen and do the stfs with the fleet. No dilithium means no stfs for the fleet means no fleet means no game. Game over. So i do hope that isnt changed as indicated. the turning elite marks in for dilithium is for more dilitium not just the only way to get it i hope. I expect elite mark turn in and the usual dilithium reward.

I believe in the priority one 100th episode pod cast, CaptainGeko said they would be converted for marks or reputation.... But they clearly said that it will be like the emblems to DL conversion. If you have a bazillion EDCs, tech, salvage, it will be diminishing so you don't start Season 7 Day 1 max in reputation.

So you have to decide.... do you trade in what you have to DL or take a chance on the conversion?

Right. And I'm saying, a lot of people will only complete Elites a token number of times to get the Elites they need and will farm regular as a more consistent source of reliable returns.

Because the Elites are less guaranteed to have a successful PuG completion and take longer.

Has that explicitly been stated? I'm not denying it, I want to know. Some of updates are cool but some things really have me questioning the direction of STO.

I'd say Elites maybe take around 2.5 times as long but if you get a bad PuG, they're worth nothing. So the entire time gets wasted when a PuG fails and making the optionals this desirable will cause a high rate of PuG failures.

I'd say the typical group CANNOT do optionals but CAN complete the missions, particularly on the ground.

Elite STFs are not worth the aggravation if you take away the base line 1,400 dilithium reward. Not gonna grind those things for a pittiance.

    Wow. Just wow.

I think they should focus on getting everyone up to a point of comfortably earning 8k from their choice of a couple of hours of gameplay before they make people too dilithium hungry.

Right. And I'm saying, a lot of people will only complete Elites a token number of times to get the Elites they need and will farm regular as a more consistent source of reliable returns.

Because the Elites are less guaranteed to have a successful PuG completion and take longer.
Yes, People who's skills aren't up to Elites will do that. People who can steamroll elites (Its doable, I just did all 3 grounds with a good group in less than an hour, and When I say Steamrolled, I mean it; It was non stop forward movement, obliterating Borg as we went) will continue to play Elite.

Content difficulty exists for a reason.

How long do you think the foundry will be down for after season 7 launch?

The STF reward tables were updated for this push and they contain all the omega marks and elite marks you should get. When they were updated the dilithium was inadvertently removed as a flat reward. They will be back in a release next week.

You can earn dilithium just from the run, as well as from turning in elite marks if you so choose.
