Here's something I'd like to know also that didn't get answered in this Ask Cryptic... more stuff to do on my ship interior? A shuttlebay? Holodecks? And remember, don't make the shuttlebay too big, because as it is Engineering in already pushing the envelope on my Defiant.
I agree with you there.
would be nice to not have to transport to my shuttle craft (stalker fighter FTW) when Im already on the ship.
and they should actually make the holodecks USEABLE....not just have them there for props
Who knows! Maybe I stacked the deck and we are really doing *ALL* of those things in 2013 :P (ha! that would be amazing...) Seriously though, this survey does help us prioritize and we do take it to heart, so vote like you mean it!
If you were to do 1-4 and 8-10, or even half of those, next year I know at least 40 players, including myself, that would make this game their primary game once again.
Q: (tovalmorgan) Are you ever going to fix the decloaking bug? Whenever your bridge officers talk to you or any kind of interaction window pops up on the screen while you are cloaked, the pop up window forces your ship to decloak.
Dstahl: To clear up some confusion about this issue, let me shed some light on how cloak is intended to relate to interactions within the game. It is our intention that any interaction within the game will remove stealth. Anytime you are expected to take a game action of clicking on a button to respond, whether it is to scan something, or acknowledge a bridge officer, or make a command decision via a contact option, it should pull you out of stealth. With that said, there are undoubtedly missions out there that were made prior to the inception of the mini-contacts (the ones that fly across your screen) which are just providing information and shouldn?t need to be acknowledged. One reason we created mini-contacts was to allow information to be given by your bridge crew without you needing to acknowledge it for game design purposes. If you feel that a specific mission contact could be switched to a mini-contact that doesn?t need acknowledgement, then that is the type of suggestion that should be made. We can then look at the mission specifically and determine whether it warrants a mini-contact or not.
Wow, that has to be one of the stupidest design decisions I've ever heard of.
I voted pvp as well. If you were to vastly improvee pvp, there would be less emphasis on end game content.
Also why not promote pvp with fleet marks like the fleet events. The better you do, the better the reward. That would definately boost the numbers in the right way.
I.e. no points for afker's and non combatants and more points fro those who made an impact in he game even though they may have lost.....
If you dont already understand what I'm saying then you probably wont understand this either. But to repeat the point: there is no way to know what the 2nd most popular choice is, because there is no way to know what all the people who voted for the 1st most popular choice would vote for 2nd. The same logic applies down the line to 3rd, 4th, etc. The only thing this poll shows is what the 1st most popular choice is. It does not show any order of priority.
To give an example for those still not understanding; lets just say hypothetically that on the day they close this poll KDF has the most votes. Ok, that means that was the most popular choice. So the devs spend the next few months doing that. After they are done, they want to move on to whatever is the next most popular choice. But they have no idea what all the people who voted for KDF would want next.
That means they would have to have a new poll without KDF being an option. Then, whichever item got the most votes in that poll would be the 2nd most popular after KDF. You would have to repeat the process all the way until there were only 2 options left to accurately determine the order of popularity. Alternatively, you could give people a survey that actually let them select the order they want the options in.
But the bottom line of this whole thing is that this poll will not show you what is the 2nd or 3rd or 4th most popular choice; only the 1st.
Why do small fleets need a Starbase anyway? I mean, a Starbase is HUGE, it's for LARGE Fleets so why on earth do 5 Man-fleets need a Starbase? Besides, it would simply be unfair if smaller fleets need to get less stuff for their projects just because they're small! (Except for the time limited upgrades since they're one time only).
Also, before adding new content, FIX BUGS! Please!
well then... I saw the decloaking of the ship when the bridge officers talk to you was intended really... never in a episode did I see a ship decloak when a officer talked to the captain of the ship NEVER!
My current thoughts have been that a healthy PvP system will need two healthy factions. KDF has been getting better, but it needs the final push to get it to where it needs to go. Once that happens, then PvP improvements will go much farther towards what will be useful for the long term health of the game.
i actually think the key to making pvp more popular, and acceptable, is npcs that behave more like player ships. pve does nothing to prepair players for how much more difficult and complex the excellent pvp game play is, i think the vast majority of players that have tried it after pveing for a long time hate it because its so absolutely different from what their used too.
aside from issues with science skills and engineering captains being underpowered, pvp game play is by far the most fun thing to do in game when you get the hang of it. the problem is its very hard to get the hang of. its also not properly incentive with fleet marks or its own item store.
those things would at least draw more players too it, and the more inexperienced players in pvp, the eaiser time they will have playing against each other. they might learn something from each other in that situation, i cant help but obliterate newcomers in a mater of seconds im afraid
on another note, i am worried about the handling of the wells class. and that red klingon ship that based on its name has something to do with time travel frankly, its inappropriate for such a thing to ever be a playable ship, its from the 29th century. thats a bigger gap of time then there is between captain archer's nx class and 2409! in universe, if a wells class made it into the hands of starfleet of the past, they would intervene and prevent it from ever happening. theres no way to justify making it playable, or to be in game at all. a mission were you help a wells class complete a time cop mission of some kind would be one thing, but for it to be a random npc is just... wrong. dispite it being a part of the star trek universe, this is something that takes the trek out of this game. it makes it feel more like a theme park then a game set in 2409. its not taking the ip as seriously as it takes itself.
I had to go with PvP over Klingon content because PvP affects all my toons.
I keep wondering how much better STO would have been had they concentrated on the Klingon side to begin with.

Why do I get the idea that the forum posters are majority Klinks? Ive been begging them for official polls for years. Who knows if this is just lip service. But what I really want is an ingame poll, and then RELEASE those numbers. Also, players who have paid at least $25 within the last 6 months should have their vote counted twice. Get some real numbers.
Ive also written to Starbase UGC, and they discussed my opinion in one episode that the Foundry IS exploration in this game. Cryptic will never be able to keep up with exploration demand, so to help exploration, just help the foundry. More assets more assets more assets!

I'm cool mate, dont worry. But again, this poll does not show you "priority order" in any way. It shows you which 1 thing got the most votes, but that is all. It does not show you what is 2nd most popular, or 3rd, or anything else. The reason is because there is no way to know what all the people who voted for the most popular choice would vote as their 2nd, 3rd, etc.
So if you are trying to see what the single most popular choice is, then great. But if you are trying to see anything beyond that(aka priority order) then the results are meaningless for the reasons I just stated.
Oh don't worry, I understand perfectly. I still think the percentages are a good enough indicator though.

About the Wells class, it's simple: the Wells class ship we get is a REPLICA of the ship. It's built with current technology, has current weapons and all that stuff, and so on and so forth.
Because it's built with current technology, it will have virtually NONE of the timeship's abilities. But it will look like the ship, and will probably have one time-based power, but won't remotely act like the timeship.
It's just like the NX Only in reverse, as far as the century the ship class came from.

The foundry is not "exploration"(as most of the missions are about known storylines), but it is certainly an endless well of content that Cryptic would do well to take advantage of sooner rather than later.
I didn't vote for playable Rommies because what Dan Stahl stated didn't please me at all. If there has to be such a faction in game, I'd rather see it as a full and complete faction, like the fed or kdf, instead of only "playable romulans". I would rather see no romulans instead of fed romulans. This is the most ridiculous idea ever, and it tells us that Dan isn't a Star Trek fan at all.
I do believe that many voters make the confusion between "playable romulans" and "a romulan faction", so you may add this precision to the poll option: Playable Romulans (not Romulan faction). Votes would change dramatically.
I normally am a PVE-er in all the games I play but I like the potential of PVP in STO. Its like the Devs worked on it and had ADD and went off to do something else and kinda left pvp not finished. It needs more work. Even cryptic mentioned that pvp sucked! WELL FIX IT!. If you fixed it and made it really good, you'll have more players willing to do pvp and pve. As a PVE - er who's given pvp a try and likes it in this game, its worth it. Also one could say, that pvp builds are different too and along with that have something to teach pvp set ups maybe. lol
Why have "Playable Romulans" When you dont even have a GOOD base for the Klingons. There's soo much lacking on the Klingon side. If the amount of time and effort spent on the Fed side was applied to the Klingon side, you would have more players playing it.
While I would like to see players who want a Romulan faction get it, I feel it is more important to the game for the Klingon faction to be finished first. For everyone and not just the faction.
Oh don't worry, I understand perfectly. I still think the percentages are a good enough indicator though.
Except they arent, and here is why. Lets say KDF wasnt an option on this poll. Would all the people who voted for it vote Romulan? Some would. But what if most voted for new FEs? That could very well push FEs ahead of Romulans. And that is why there is absolutely no way to know what is the 2nd most popular choice from this poll, because you have no idea what the people who voted for the 1st most popular would vote for after that.
well then... I saw the decloaking of the ship when the bridge officers talk to you was intended really... never in a episode did I see a ship decloak when a officer talked to the captain of the ship NEVER!
I think the basic problem is that the underlying design does not factor in "intent". From a game mechanic perspective, I suspect perhaps the game can't distinguish one type of interaction from another.
In other words, if I'm right, the underlying engine doesn't know whether you're clicking on an interact dialog to demand the other ship to surrender, scanning a derelict ship, or just talking to your bridge officer. In the first and second cases, dropping the cloak would be more than reasonable. But the code governing how cloaks interact with buttons can't distinguish between any of those. The only way to fix that would be to somehow classify every form of interaction as internal, external, informational, etc.
So the mini-contact avoids presenting an interact button for this reason. No button, no interaction, no dropped cloak.
Does anyone know if mini-contacts are/will be available for the Foundry too?

Forget about KDF content, cut your losses, start fresh with a new faction, learn from your mistakes with the Klingons and make a great Faction....The True Empire, The True Bad guys of the Federation...The Romulans.
I voted pvp as well. If you were to vastly improvee pvp, there would be less emphasis on end game content.

What about having it so players that take more dmg get more fleet marks (or whatever the reward will be, and may help sci and eng be more useful) and players who do more dmg get even more (to urge players to do better and not just take damage to get rewards).
Also my preference for pole:
1. PVP
2. KDF
3. Into the Hive (their are enough fleet PVE missions)
4. Romulans
Starting to get pretty low:
5. Foundry (Since I don't currently use it but I'm kinda planing on in the future)
6. Crafting and Exploration (yes crafting is currently useless)
7. Duty Officers (For players who have invested with them and to help game progression other than this it is done)
Feature Episodes are nice but to small and its hard to give the best items in these (for combat, social stuff dosn't have this issue) since they are much easier to get so I place them on a pretty low piority, I suprised so many people have voted for them.
And hopefully the fact that PWE wants PVP will boost it a bit. The current Fleet ships should be boosted stat wise to match the other Fleet Ships.
Thats fine, you are entitled to that opinion. But the fact is, without knowing what the 2nd choice is of all the people who voted for the most popular choice, there is no way to know what the 2nd most popular item is. That is not opinion, but fact.

nope. the 29th century would NOT be flattered by the imitation, and would do everything in their power to remove the information from 2409 that would allow a near replica to be built. theres is NO justification, replicas only work when something from the past is built in the present.

If they did everything in their power to stop the Wells class from showing up at all, why are they showing up all over the place?
For whatever reason, in-game and out-of-game, the Wells class is allowed to be around. And I really don't get why we can't call a future-ship replica a replica... what else would you call it?

Like the Romulan Alliance System? Of course you do, it sounds fine to you because you aren't Romulans, you're FED or KDF who are going to make a Romulan alt, it makes a HUGE difference in perspective.
Q: (tovalmorgan) Are you ever going to fix the decloaking bug? Whenever your bridge officers talk to you or any kind of interaction window pops up on the screen while you are cloaked, the pop up window forces your ship to decloak.

On this note, my mind boggled, and I have to disagree. Having a Bridge officer talk to you, or receiving an incoming communication from another ship, never broke cloak in any Star Trek episode I've ever seen. It doesn't fit canon, and in STFs, it's a great way to break the tempo when your officer's report fills up half the screen AND your cloak drops, for no reason but to talk to an officer on your bridge.
This can't be working as intended. I understand why cloak would drop if you're interacting with an objective in space (especially in PvP) but is there some sort of severe technical reason why cloak has to drop whenever a dialogue box opens?
Edit: if it is a technical reason with all dialogue boxes, you can start by replacing the mid-mission STF officer reports, and similar items in Fleet actions, with mini-contacts.

I don't care how long you've been playing. I only care about how you play.
And remember to follow the rules.
I voted playable Romulans, but only because what I want isn't on the list. I want to see the death to off-duty costume slots. All the "off-duty" parts moved into the "on-duty tailor. Various outfits that are not really federation uniforms ajusted so Klingons can use it (section 31 outfit, the Merc outfit set, 7 of 9s outfit, to name a few). This was discussed and was almost ready months ago and then it vanished.

Kirking it up in PVE is boring after you've done it a million times.
Edit:
Why would you want to to add another faction when the Klingon faction is not up to par with the main one?
Makes more sense to finish the Klingons, add more space PvP content, and then focus on the next faction.
