Why does it keep repatching after every quit though?

It'll look for a patch every time. But if you have already downloaded it, it'll shut itself down after a second.

Why would c-points to zen require modifying over 3gbs of game data?

Moreover, why would this be in the form of a pre-patch and not a regular patch? As far as I'm aware, pre-patches have only ever been used to prep the release of a new season. At least, that's the only time I've ever seen them.

Just a question, because I'm patching right now...

I got disconnected from server, then exited the game, then the launcher just opened and began patching. Is this normal behavior for the patching process?

Yes it's normal. It's dowloading prepatch files before the next major build is going live. What you are downloading is mostly the new maps, character/ship models and art assets which aren't aren't likely to change. On release, the patcher will pull patches files from the Tribble install and pre-patch files. And then it will download any final last minutes patches from the patch server.

well a 408kb download seems abit small for a season 6 patch.

No doubt, that's because it isn't a season 6 patch... Which will be coming later this week/end :D

I hit exit for a reason. I had other things to do.

When I open the loader, I expect the patch to come down. I'm putting my time into the game and patching is part of that time.

Post hitting exit? Time no longer being put into the game.

I don't claim to be representative of all players, but I think it's something to take into account when programming these sort of things.

There have been a number of threads on this already (all of which are still on the front page as I was collecting these links). It is pre-patching for Season 6. You can always stop the pre-patch by closing the launcher but you risk waiting for over an hour for a patch to download when Season 6 launches.

Yes, no patching! Fix bugs! We don't need patches to apply bugfixes! Do it with magic!

Just like the title says, I went to log out of the game a few minutes ago, and instead of going back to the desktop, it went to the launcher and started downloading a 1117 MB patch!! Could it be S6?

It helps if you check the forums for answers before posting a thread asking a question.

I cant wait either. Just kinda set me into a weird wonder though when I see the launcher staying open upon my exit from the game. Has done it for the past 4 times I have tried it. I kinda got weirded out on the first time and closed out the launcher. But after that I let it do its thing. So far though I can log in and still play. Interesting they handle prepatching like this. I have never expereinced anything like it with other games I play.

if it is bug ridden i would choose to blame several groups of perople..

    1) The people who said why bother doing anything on tribble because it is full of bugs

    2) The people who did play on tribble but made a choice to complain incessantly in zone chat and not make a bug report

    3) The people who did play on tribble but made bug reports about things they just did not like that were not really bugs thus wasting time that could be spent on real bugs

    4) The people who demanded this content right now however they can get it and complained that things have been on tribble too long and not on holodeck fast enough regarldess of bugs.

Many of these people will be the ones full of QQ juice in zone and here moaning about proper qa not being done.

but also we have to blame Cryptic for listening to any of those people who are obviously idiots. And some how we have to blame Perfect World i am not sure what for yet but somebody in zone chat will figure it out i am sure.

For some reason starting last night, when I run the game launcher it attempts to patch the game but it only gets to 3% complete and then the patch installer stops and I get the engage option. If I log out and run the launcher again it attempts to patch again with the same results. I have dun this about a dozen times now with the same results. Anyone else know why this may be occurring?

Generally, this means you are already set. It'll keep checking for the patch even if you already have it.

Known issue. Log out, relaunch the launcher, go into the options menu along the top and flip whatever setting you have for the disable on-demand patching setting, relaunch the launcher and give it a try again.

After logging off this morning the game decided to patch itself. I didn't think much of it as it happens almost weekly but having played daily for the past couple months I've come to expect to be dropped from the server before the launcher patches on relaunch of the game. THIS time it didn't- I logged out last night but forgot to exit the game, logged back in this morning to check DOFF mission progress and on exit of the game I get the patch screen where it indicates a patch of 3 GB in progress.

Did we get a major patch last night or is my game eating itself >?

What you expirienced is Season 6 pre-patching.

It's Cryptics way of making the DL time for season 6 less, and hence the strain on the patch server when Season 6 goes live.

You will still get a patch when Season 6 goes live, but no where near as big as the one you would have, if pre-patching was not enabled.
It usually happens the week a season goes live, and is perfectly normal.

Also it's not 3 GB download... it's 3 GB's patched... the actual download is significantly smaller.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

K, thanks. It had me a bit worried as it was unexpected.

Glad I didn't kill the process this morning when I left for work.
