How about two forward weapon slots could be allowed to use DHC/DC???

The Galaxy-X can already mount DHCs and it certainly hasn't helped its case.

Agreed. Given G-X is my primary ship, I want to slap anyone who tries to tell me DC/DHC are viable on this ship.

The ability to equip a 45 degree fire arc weapon on a ship that turns at about the speed Jupiter orbits the sun is ridiculous.

To start: Sorry, I?m a little distracted today so this post might end up a little disjointed.

The thing most people don?t seem to grasp about the Sovy +1 is that there really isn?t much room to make changes to it without making it completely broken. I find it hard to justify an additional console and BO slot without changing its base stats to compensate.

Honestly, I?d be thrilled if all the +1 had on it was a single additional Tactical Console slot, to make it sort of a Bortas equivalent, or even a single universal console slot (in my dreams?).

As for the console, I?d really like to see it defense or utility based rather than a weapon or offensive power. One idea I had was a console that gave minor power system bonuses, but each system that was above a certain level would either provide an additional bonus or enable a new power (I call them: Modified Plasma Injectors).

Unique weapons are, for the most part, very situational and just don?t hold up against their endgame counterparts. I know that one of the ideas that keeps popping up is for a Quantum Variant, which fits the ship, but I would rather have a console that MODIFIES quantum torpedoes; by firing them in salvos, increasing their arcs or whatever else.

A lot of us have been waiting a VERY long time for the +1, I just hope Cryptic does it right.

I could ask why the federation needs more ships but I know there isn't going to be a logical answer that is for more ships. But what I should ask is why do the feds need more cruisers?

Got so many different cruisers that fit a ton of roles, got almost as many t5 cruisers as escorts and science vessels have combined. Feds haven't gotten a new science vessel for as long as I have been playing, unless you count the atrox which I don't.

Actually, I really don't WANT a special console for the Sovy +1, myself.

What I'd like to see, ideally, is a shuffling of the BOff stations to some extent to give it a Cmdr Eng, Lt. Cmdr Eng, and Lt. Cmdr Tac, probably sacrificing the Ens Tac and maybe doing something to Lt. Sci (not sure what, but to help with balance issues, probably a drop to ensign or something). I'd also like to see an increase to turn rate of +1 deg/sec to bring it on part with the Excelsior, and maybe a bump-up of 1K for hull. That would make me happy.

Am I the only one who thinks this? It seems like a lot of people want the Sovereign +1 to be highly nonviable or have an insane console.

However, truth be told, for a "better assault cruiser than the assault cruiser" configuration, I would be happy to just have a new skin for the Excel-R that brings it up to modern standards so we're not commanding a museum.

That said, I'm not too sure how much it's going to matter - the +1 Sovy may well end up buried in the starbase construction system, so it could be months before we see any, assuming people manage to get these things from their fleets effectively in the first place.

true there are alot of cruisers at there. Honest all I want for the sovereign refit is special weapons, defences improved turn rate, defiantly a new design look, add another science boff maybe?

I would be happy simply with the boff change you mentioned alone. That is to sacrifice the ENG TAC for one LtCom TAC. Any special console in addition would simply be gravy.

As I mentioned earlier in another post, all we really need is a slight tactical boost as the Sovereign is so well balanced offensively and defensively. This can be achieved with the boff change mentioned above and/or a special Quantum torpedo turret console.

It would be cool if this console allows you to activate an attack similar to a high-yield Quantum salvo (equivalent to a HYT3) and/or a Quantum torpedo spread (equivalent to a TS3) and/or give passive torpedo skill bonuses (such as increased critical hit/damage with Quantum torpedoes and/or increased shield penetration, and maybe increased firing arc). These are merely ideas.

Again, I would be satisfied with a simple boff arrangement mentioned above giving us a Lt Com TAC to match the Excelsior refit. Hopefully it will not come with the price of sacrificing its tanking ability by losing its LtCom ENG station. Just lose the extra ENG TAC. This alone will make me happy.

However, seeing what they did with the Akira refit (Heavy Escort Carrier), I really hope they blow our pants off with the Sovereign refit. I know many will line up to buy it, if it is released in the C-store. I really hope it is not a fleet ship as I don't want to wait at least 6 months for a chance to get it from the Fleet starbase.

    Keeping my fingers crossed.

Also for the QTL have accuracy too. Ya id on't want to wait 6 months either, hopefully it will be a c-store ship but if it is going to be in fleet starbase it better add more to it. Why do you call it a turret when it looks like a launcher in the movies and never heard it called turret before?

Yes accuracy....forgot to mention that. The reason I called it a torpedo turret is because in some trek forums people have speculated that the big torpedo launcher under the saucer may have turret like abilities....meaning it has an increased firing arc but not full out 360 degrees. Probably not canon....just speculation. Therefore I call it a quantum torpedo turret or launcher interchangeably.

fair enough. What about special type of regeneration shield? Also I still think the refit should have some type of special phaser to. It is a cruiser right but added combat and defensive abilities.

I find most of the +1 consoles extremely underwhelming; The plasmodial leach (which I would kill for on my fed) and the Point Defense Console (on my shuttle), are the only ones I could ever find a slot in my build for.

If I could, I'd buy most of my C-Store ships without them.

Honestly? Not so much. There are two other ships that have that EXACT layout, the Excel-R and Cardassian, there would be no reason for most people to buy it.

If they did change the BO layout, I'd hope for something more along the lines of: LT Tac, LT Tac, LTCmd Eng, Cmd Eng, LT Sci. I know that's more positions then the other T5.5s, but bumping the Ens Tac up wouldn't be COMPLETELY overwhelming while offering a similar, but different option to the Excel-R

The Excel-R is a good ship, but I honestly could never get past it's looks enough to want to fly it. Gave it the nickname "The Ex-Scrap-ular"

I'd LOVE for the Sovy +1 to have the Typhoon Skin, or at least the quad Nacelle configuration that the typhoon has. If they put that option up in the C-Store, even if it was the EXACT same ship, I'd buy it in a heart beat.

Here are some ideas to consider (taken from credible Star Trek Websites and posts)

"Saucer separation capability of the Sovereign-class was something that was neither seen nor mentioned on screen or in the scripts, but John Eaves went ahead and designed a detailed separation anyway. Design sketches were published in Star Trek: The Magazine Volume 3, Issue 11, page 49."

"Located at the dorsal stern of the primary hull, the main shuttlebay took up a significant portion of the aft section of Decks 6 through 9 on the Sovereign-class. Due to the mission profile of the Sovereign, the shuttlebay extended further than normal for a vessel its size to accommodate runabouts and several shuttlecraft.
The secondary shuttlebay was located at the very aft portion of the engineering hull. This bay, while smaller than the main facility, was just as capable of handling flight operations as the main shuttlebay. (Star Trek: First Contact)" -- 2 Hangar Bays Anyone?

"In her original configuration, the Sovereign-class mounted five torpedo launchers. The "main" launcher was located on the ventral portion of the saucer on a turret and was supplemented by one twin-tube launcher, forward and aft at the bottom of the secondary hull. The refit saw the addition of five more tubes: three on the dorsal saucer section (a single tube facing forward on Deck 3 and a twin-tube launcher facing aft [located above the aft saucer airlock]) as well as two on the secondary hull, both facing aft ? one above and one below the secondary hull shuttlebay. (Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek Nemesis)" -- A Source for a Rapid Fire Quantum Torpedo Launcher

"The Sovereign-class originally employed twelve phaser arrays at key locations throughout the ship's hull." -- Source for a special Phaser Weapon

and we could go on... and on... and on...

Actually the boff arrangement being proposed is the following:

    Com ENG
    LtCom ENG
    lLtCom TAC
    Lt Sci

Actually the devs were considering this boff configuration for the Assault cruiser when the Excelsior was first released, especially when people were complaining that the Excelsior out "assaults" the Assault cruiser. They were considering adjusting the other basic tier 5 ships at the time but nothing was done. The above arrangement would give Sovereign fans the high coveted LtCom Tac slot without losing its tanking ability (Com ENG and LtCom ENG slots). The Excelsior refit lost the LtCom ENG in favor of the LtCom TAC slot. Thus, lost some tanking ability for the LtCom Tac. So its arrangement will actually make it better than the Excelsior refit, which I think as it should be.

Of course, I really like your suggested boff arrangement (2 Lt Tacs, 1 Com ENG, 1 LtCom ENG, 1 Lt Sci) as well however, I don't think we are going to gain an extra Lt Tac slot without sacrificing something.

Your also forgetting that the refit also saw additional phaser array added so from 12 to 16 in total. I wish they make the sovereign refit as canon as possible. As for the special phasers and shields just an idea, as we see in nemesis new type of phasers which fire at a faster rate than usual. For the rapid fire launcher well it is know to fire 4 a second and not sure about the other launchers, from what I have been told the galaxy class has this rapid fire system so it will stand to reason it will be in the sovereign classes. As for shield well other than being a contour type shield and I got the idea for a special regeneration shield since the Prometheus has it and also it will stand to reason the sovereign classes will have it and I imagine all ships or most ships will have this. Also got it from this site, not sure if it is canon but is an interesting read. http://techspecs.acalltoduty.com/sovereign.html

This is not "putting it on par with the Excelsior", it's flat-out outclassing it. I won't kick up a storm if people eventually get the Lt. Com. Tac slot they want so badly, but giving it a turn rate and a hull buff is absurd (the Sovereign only has a turn rate one unit lower than the Excel-R and its hull is exactly equal).

Should the sovereign class be more maneuverable, from nemesis it looked very maneuverable for a ship little bit smaller than a galaxy class and twice as or more the size of the excelsior.

I'll probably get some flak for this but I don't know that basing ship designs on the TV show/movies in anything other than a very loose way is a good idea. It might have worked if Cryptic had taken a strict "canon" approach from the start, but that isn't what we have and so we now think purely in game terms when it comes to ship powers. I mean, based purely on the TV show/movies, can you give me a concrete definition of how strong the B'rel should be? How about the Defiant, or the Dominion ships?

To put it another way, if we want to give the Sovereign the Excelsior's powers/layout, the Excel would need some kind of remake because it would have absolutely no unique advantages (bar the innate out-of-combat transwarp). This would be passable if the Excel-R was a captain ship, but it's not.

well canonly the sovereign is a very maneuverable ship from what I just watched on youtube. Canon noramally mean what is shown on tv shows and movies with star trek. Im not just saying that because the sovereign class is one of my favourite ships. True if they ketp it canonly from the start then add new things later might have helped. But this is a mmo like wow but with star trek stuff. I wish there was bridge commander 2.

Good news: officially tier 5.5 ships coming from the fleet stations. They will be 'ultraviolet' quality stuff, 9 weapons slots I believe. 47 ships will now be 5.5. bad news: Sov refit will NOT be coming out with s6. (there will be a 5.5 fleet sovereign ship though). He said that the new sov is going to be 'really' tactical!!

Strange, all sources have been saying that the Sovereign refit will be coming very soon...what is the delay??

ya right, proof please. We have been told that sovereign refit will be coming out soon. And I doubt it will be like that, very overpowered, what ot to be a ship on par but not that overpowered.

What a waste. Thanx Cryptic for nothing, like usual.
care to explain why that entire podcast was a waste? or is it just the Sovereign refit?
    Was named Trek17.

Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh', if only due to personal standards.

Sorry for the vagueness, I am refering to the last year or more we have been asking for a c-store sovy that is better than the current one, just to have it delayed again. The podcast overall was good. :(

Raj, I linked a podcast that has the lead ship designer telling us that it will be 2 months minimum before we see the sovereign refit. Trust me, all you have to do is listen to it.

Really? Someone else said an extra console slot on the fleet ships.

Yes, in the podcast, they say that Fleet ships will have an extra console. The dev also mentions a 'fleet turret slot' which I believe is a new kind of weapon that is linked to the fleet station.

yeah, it was quite intriguing, I very much recommend listening to it.

The immediate result for me, though, was spending those Cpoints that I'd been saving for the Sovvy +1 on an ody set
