Can Atari actually force you to change the name of C-Store points or is it something you guys decided to do... because Atari Tokens sounds stupid. I feel like I'm shoving tokens into an arcade machine instead of buying in game stuff.
Anything's better than a currency that abbreviates to CP.
Atari Tokens are the new name for Cryptic Points. The goal is to move all Cryptic and Atari games to be using this "new" currency ASAP.
You'll be able to use them here, in CO, or in any other Atari game (such as on Facebook) which has micro transactions.
As far as the idea of putting tokens into an arcade game... I think that's the image the marketing guys were trying to evoke. We're an old school company, and we're proud of that heritage.
Thanks,
Stormshade
For anyone that has not noticed threre is one significant change here beyond the cosmetic. From a user viewpoint there may appear to be no more dfifference than a change of name. We will presumably buy our tokens from the same link we always did and hopefully receive services for roughly the same expenditure in cash. But then what about the economics beyind that.
When I buy C store points that income is generated within the cryptic part of Atari. When I buy Atari points presumably it will not. This is an important point for the longer term of the game because I very much doubt so much of that Atari income will be spent directly within the development of this game I am playaing and paying for. STO generated income will be less obvious and more likely diverted to other projects.
It would be nice to have a statement from Atari reassuring us that points spent on STO will be used to develop STO.
This is confusing. I remember a dev post a month or two ago saying that these would be separate, that you wouldn't be able to use your CO subscription points in STO or vice-versa. People aren't fans of multiple currencies (maybe they're easily confused), but I think there should be some sort of hierarchy:
Atari points: usable in all Atari games (IE, not just Cryptic); bought from Atari
Cryptic points: usable in all Cryptic-developed games like CO & STO
CO points: specific to Champions Online; this would be from CO subscriptions/lifetime; only usable in CO
STO points: specific to STO; available from STO subs/lifetime; only usable in STO
Users will only ever see Atari tokens. Internally we keep track separately the tokens you get by paying real money, and those you get via other means (such as the Champions Gold subscription monthly stipend, or the 500 free points that came with some STO pre-orders). The ones you bought for real money are available for use in all Atari games. The tokens you receive as part of a promotion or special offer for one specific game can only be used by that game. So If you have bought 500 Tokens and received a 400 token stipend in Champions online, you will see a balance of 900 Atari Tokens in Champions, and 500 in STO (or other Atari games using tokens).
Well, if you're changing the name you might want to mention to the art team to change the new Ship and Close Tailors in Tribble to change it to AP from CP.
Perhaps instead of AP, just use the Atari Symbol in-game?
Don't worry, the build on Tribble just didn't have the final art. The correct icon should be present when we go live with the new currency.

There is no change here really. From an accounting standpoint, we have always credited the revenue to the game team when the points are spent on the game, not when the points are bought.

So the STO C-Store has always been an Atari Store, just specific to STO? I guess that makes sense, when taking previous statements that the C-Store team are not the same people as the STO team, and we see bits of miscommunication or misalignment between the two systems (like the Sovereign bridge pack that went into the C-Store yesterday with no announcement). It looks like the STO dev team just provides the items for the Atari "store team" to put into their store, and Atari decides when to put it up/how much to price it/advertise it/sales/etc.
So If you have bought 500 Tokens and received a 400 token stipend in Champions online, you will see a balance of 900 Atari Tokens in Champions, and 500 in STO (or other Atari games using tokens).
Now, will we use those 400 from our stipend first on CO or will we use our paid for tokens first? If it's the latter, well you can count on my token purchase rate to drop dramatically as I won't be leaving large sums of tokens just sitting there keeping me from using the stipend tokens in CO.

given that i think i should ask, what's the priority on these? if i have 900 points in CO and 500 in STO and buy a 400 point item in CO will it draw from the CO only tokens first or the ones purchased with real money? will make a big difference if you wanted to buy an STO item later then found out you only had 100 points in STO but still had 500 in CO
Does that makes sense to anyone? ...once again forgetting to check the rest of the thread for my question....*grumble*

Hes saying you can't use STO only Tokens at all in CO and the other way around.

The game specific (stipend) tokens are used before the paid tokens.

Considering Atari's corporate structure rose with the development of arcades and arcade games, why is this surprising?
So when will the conversion take place in STO? I just purchased a bunch of Atari Tokens from the C-store in CO but I noticed they do not carry over to the C-store in STO.

I don't really care about the points/tokens name -- they can call it whatever they want. Just commenting for the sake of discussion.
FWIW, my understanding is that the Atari corporate structure you speak of died years ago. This Atari is not that Atari. This Atari is a totally different entity that purchased the name/logo from the old dead company and adopted it in hopes to bolster their own image with people who still remembered what it once meant. Though I may have misremembered the details.

This, even if Nolan Bushnell is on the board, it is still not that Atari. The only things remaining from that time are the name and the fuji.
This Atari came from GT Interactive that attempted to rebuild their company image by renaming themselves Infogrames, that attempted to buy an improved image with the purchase of the Atari name.
Like I said, the only things left are the name and the fuji, and Nolan Bushnell's name on the board. The Atari coin-op game company is owned by an entirely different company, I think Namco right now.
I will admit that it is really cool to see Nolan Bushnell coming back to his roots at an Atari though.

I'd be more entheusiastic if they were Chuck E. Cheese Tokens because then I could also purchase greesy pizza and beer.

Oh, I'm sorry if I care about every little detail. Atari Tokens sounds very kid-like, and I'm an adult would prefers using Cryptic Points.
Now, since they are going to be Atari Tokens and there is nothing I can do about that, then let's move along. I still feel it sounds kiddish.

The price of Atari Tokens is the same as the price of Cryptic Points.

Thank you, good to know.
Without a doubt, my favorite response to this thread. srsly.
Especially since ships started getting Tron Lines from the Aegis shield system, around the time Legacy came out
Anyway, I remember that era myself, so will approve of the nostalgia of putting tokens into arcade games. Been a long time ago...

Stop focusing so much on substance and go more with the feel of the statements. People like you just make people think needlessly!
I have Atari Points apparently but I can't spend them, the items are greyed out. Is everything broken?
No help/explanation from Cryptic 6 days later? Gee, thanks.
