I was hoping beyond hope that when I logged onto STO today, that Cryptic would have done something smart, something that would have made a lot of people happy, something that would help their own reputation.
But no, they have once again alienated their own player-base and compounded their horrible reputation. Yes I am talking about the Excelsior. Can you imagine what a pleasant surprise it would have been to log on and there it was available to everyone who wanted to fly it. I think that such a gesture would have gone a long way to heal some old wounds.
P.S. Hey Klingons, I know you are waiting (and rightly so) for some new ships. You had better start saving your hard earned cash now.
Nope this is not the proverbial straw. THIS IS THE WEEKEND BURN....
the forums will burn for the weekend, and then about a week or two it will all calm down and settle back to normal... AT LEAST UNTIL THE NEBULA IS RELEASED.........

You mean like the teir 3 version that everyone can fly at no cost....?
If what the PvP'ers are saying is true about the Excelsior, and it's become a pay to have a leg up in PvP, then thats directly against the stated rules around the C-store that the dev's have voiced. If they make it available through merits, then it's not so bad because theres another way to get the ship in-game for no additional cost to the user.
But if you want to fly around the excelsior in game you have a non c-store option, thats my point.
Everyone who keeps up on this game knew this was going into the c-store regardless, I think this is a good compromise on cryptic part. This ship should of been ingame from the start but it wasn't, thats a fact.
If you want to fly it competitively at Teir 5 you can buy it if you want but again if you want to fly the excelsior ingame you do have a version obtainable with in game means.

the ship is different, not better.
should it be available via emblems then i would agree with that
I'm not willing to pay to get it, so i'll never know @ Revo
I do think 500 emblems IS unreasonable, but w/e lol. Merit would be a better measure IMO. It almost seems like the ships themselves are the gear sets in this game.
Tac slot or not, bottom line is that the Excelsior is a superior boat to just about anything the Klingons can muster, and will be superior to anything not purchased outside the C-store, thus making it important, and give Excelsior captains an edge in PVP.
This is something almost all MMO's strive to avoid- unbalancing inter-player combat in favor of those who spend more money. It's insulting to players in a free to play game, but understandable in order to generate revenues.
In a fee per month game though, priced the same as any other MMO, its inexcusable.

well in defense of my Excelsior. I think a few hours it a little to soon to be taking the PVPers words on it just yet.. PVPers are the ones that are quick to scream nerf when they lose. ( it's like that in any game.. it's not my skill, it that over powered { name here } ) In truth they need to look at adapting to the new ship...
Now if they are still saying this in a week or so, then they to take a look at it.

I am not at all surprised that a money maker for them (excelsior) happened to come out before bug fixes and new content that has been discussed.
Dstahl told me in a previous thread that certain teams just get their stuff out first.
It just always seems to be the stuff that puts a few more coins in atari's pocket.
I'm not surprised either considering they've been working on this ship for at least four months and the bugs we're dealing with now started with an issue tied to the updating patching process that started two weeks ago and requires people outside the STO team to fix.

O, I know. If they go on a rage nerfing campaign, it just makes things worse. I would've liked to have seen how the original BO set up worked, but then they nerfed it. Now they can't do much with it I suppose.

Irrelevant. The tier 5 version has stats that are not available in the game otherwise. That is a gameplay-affecting feature avaialble only in the C-store, and that is breaking a promise made when they were selling lifetime subs.

if you read the wording they never actually said it would be only cosmetic. they used some very careful wording like 'almost' and 'virtually'
they said nothing is needed to play or complete the game. they never actually said it would never be game affecting in some way or only cosmetic. that is often something that we on the forums have created by interpreting their words
does it make it right, probably not, but they never broke their promise, they just worded their promise with some room to manoeuvre.
but of course that does lead to the argument of what is game affecting as everybody sees thing differently. simply having ships that look different can be considered game affecting to some people. i can buy an excelsior and slot if differently to someone else's ship but it does not mean i have an advantage, just something different. it could be argued that cosmetic is no different. i have something that looks different but gives me no real advantage over anyone else.
for me personally it does not bother me, i dont need the ship but i want one so im fine with that

I agree with you, I think most of the hurt feelings on the forums are due to misinformation and that why so many people feel like they have been betrayed.

Playing the martyr doesn't help your cause.
another 'cryptic fails' thread. and another 'excelsior is unfair' thread.
because we needed another one.
at least he did us the favor of consolidating.

shhh dont say that, then there will be nothing for people to rage about.
That is exactly what would have made it such a pleasant surprise.
Does it have a high level tac BO slot?

I have not yet begin to RAGE!!!
Just kidding. I have sat back and watched a lot of BS on Crypyics part. I have said little. I feel it is mt duty to say something here.
Down with the F-store. F=Farangi
Yes, you will have to excuse my bad spelling, after all I am raging at the moment.
I just rolled an Orion and K-space is packed!
