I am just letting everyone know never to participate in Cryptic's promotion again because all your effort and time isn't worth it. The "exclusive" items granted will always be available via C-Store at the fraction of the original cost.
Perhaps it's easy for you guys to criticize others, but put yourself on our shoes. Imagine, you paid 100%-300% premium for items or spent weeks searching to get your friends play WoW, only to realize that the items you paid will be available for mere FRACTION of the original "costs."
We believe we have a legitimate reason to complain about this. Just beware of Cryptic's promotions.
Just wait for couple months and they will be available for very nice price.
Oh and Cryptic, you guys might as well change the forum index name from "C-Store and Promotions" to just "C-Store."
After all, all these items will end up in C-Store anyway. Taking the extra mile and participating in any of the promotions just doesn't make any sense.
For real! Only some kind of crazy person would actually recommend a product they like to people they know simply because they want their friends to enjoy it too
I spent days and hours to recruit new players to the game and help them ingame. I felt it was a well balanced reward to get an exclusive ship for the time I invested without beeing able to improve my own character and do STF like others did meanwhile.
Now everyone gets this exclusive for a few bucks. I still cann't believe I get cheated another time by cryptic... just two weeks after throwing away my "exclusive" $80-CE items for a few cents...
I got cheated twice now.
It will NOT happen another time. Never ever.
Another promotion program is coming? Go to hell... I'll whine a little bit in foruims about it, playing the game, and wait until it hits the c-store for the price of a pack of cigarettes.
Lesson learned:
"Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, I won't be fooled again"
--G.W.B.
Gotta love it how people were outraged over hearing that the Galaxy-X was part of the referral program.
And now when they are going to give an optional way to get it people throw up the desperate cash grab sign again.
*sigh* theres just no pleasing people.
Theoretically, there could have been a way that caused less resistance. They could just have offered the Galaxy-X on C-Store upfront. Then they could have said: "Oh, and when you do this referral program, you can get it for free".
Thus, no one would have bought those 5 referrals, and only "real" referrers would have used it.
There would still be uproar about adding a "semi-canonical" ship that shouldn't exist in this timeline and, because it is different from a ship costume could or could not be broken/overpowered/nerfed.
In that regard, there is no pleasing to be had.
But I think as a promotion, their route worked better. Complaints might mean less then people that get into the game because someone wanted this ship and got his friends to play it, too.
I don't know what kind friends you have, but none of my friends watch Star Trek or let alone, play Star Trek.
How is it "free?" The time and effort that people spend to recruit five people can be computed as part of the "cost." As for me, I am an impulsive buyer, so I decided to purchase 5 copies and have them subscribed, to receive this ship.
And so soon, Galaxy-X will be available via C-Store.
I don't know how far Cryptic is taking with prioritizing cheap and quick cash flow over long-term customer satisfaction? (Offering monthly subscription, ingame transaction, cheapening promotional items, and lifetime subscription?) Never saw a MMO title that flip-flopped on its stances, so many times.
So... To sum up your post... You're a compulsive fanboy who must have all the goodies, has no (star trek) friends, too much money, too little patience and then whines when the majority of the people get access to an option that they love to have.
No offense but you have far more serious problems then this ship coming to the c-store. You might want to look for some professional help.
Maybe I should make a poll to find out how many people agree with me on that?
(Seriously, please cut down on the poll spam, it's getting rediculous.)
The carebears always outnumber the ones who actually work for stuff look how many are on welfare
Wow, your so mad you cant even think straight! Let me break it down for you: you have to pay for things in the C-store. You DONT have to pay for welfare(other people do). That said, your posts are probably the funniest of this whole subject, so keep the laughs coming!

Have to ask did you tell the same to nagus etc. with their millions of polls to get things in the cstore if not why?

You always amuse me how you twist things to try and make a point he was saying how lazy peopel are that hey would rather sit on their butts rather than work here have a cookie
I'm perfectly fine with various bonus stuff ending up in the C-Store, however adding the Galaxy-X raises two issues:
1] This is, arguably, more than a cosmetic item. If this is the only way for Fed players to have a cloaking ship, that is not the kind of item I would want to see in the store.
2] What is the point of incentives if you then sell it? This is not like a pre-order bonus, which was always just a question of spending money. If there is ever a new referal program, people will laugh at the incentives, because they know they will be able to just buy it later.

Quoted for truth.
STO is a carebear game. Never spend more than you have to in carebear games because eventually the community QQ and gets everything.
And after recent marketing moves at Cryptic/Atari, anyone that pays money or gets into some referral scheme for future exclusive items is a fool. Just wait a month or two, the carebears will get them in the c-store.

The true incentive and reward of the Referral Program was to have 5 or more friends with you playing STO and enjoying your time in-game together. Enjoying your time with friends is priceless and will never be in the C-Store.

They didn't need a formal referral program for that, however.
I love it, I really do! I remember a certain poster in this thread making their own thread. That thread was flaunting the Galaxy X, and they were flaunting how they got those "other items".
Ahh, as the Nagus has pointed out in MANY threads. Hello Pot, this is the Kettle, you're black.
Here, let my put this so it is easy to see:
"If they take away the Gal X, it will be because you WHINED and QQ'ed"
So you are no better than the "welfare whiners" and other ignorant comparisons that have been made.
You always amuse me how you twist things to try and make a point he was saying how lazy peopel are that hey would rather sit on their butts rather than work here have a cookie
Perhaps your not aware of this, but Cryptic designed the referral program so you email the invitations out to people. And guess what your doing while you send emails? Yep, sitting on your butt

That's hardly Cryptic's fault.
The system was put in place as an incentive for players to find more players to play the game. It wasn't intended for players to make disposable accounts just to get one ship. Even so, a lot of players decided to spend their "disposable" income to do just this: create several dummy accounts just to get one measly ship, knowing that they were gaming the system.
And then they got burned.
And then they had the gall to complain about getting burned after using the referral system in an unintended manner.
I think we've all learned a valuable lesson. Don't use systems in unintended manners without expecting some sort of consequence.
In fact, I feel sympathy only for those who did use the system in its intended manner, but glad they're being compensated in another manner.

well that is your fault for wasting your money if your that concerned about getting an in game item you really need to step away from the computer and go outside. there are much more important things to spend your money on other than game stuff.

There are plenty of "real world" things that are a waste of money too. Personally, I think its better if a person spends their money on a video game item than cigarettes, for example.

i mostly meant it as it is their fault for spending all that money for just an in game item. no one made them spend it.
I'm discussing the original post? I don't see how that's trolling? Your post on the other hand...
But alas, replying to your post would turn this post into a troll, so to prevent going off topic even more; Personally I don't always agree with Cryptics business policies and how they run their promotions, but when they give more people the chance to enjoy more costumizations I'm all for it.

ROFL! Now where is the profit in that?

Of course not, but they tried one and offered a few "thank yous" to those who would participate in it.
1) People are whining about this
Especially since they say things like:
"If you whine enough..."
Hypocrisy much?

Oh you misunderstood me. I don't mind polls. I do mind it when they're very biased and don't give people the chance to cast a proper vote.
Yet another QFT.
The ONLY way i could get my cousins to try this was to boost them in this way.
If they like the game, they will stay (if I can keep them away from the forums and this latest fiasco), if they quit I will still get my ship.
Someone spending money this way is still spending money on Cryptic's products.

Stands for Quoted for Truth
(No apology necessary, I hate Acronyms for THIS very reason, FYI (HA!))
Rofl! Oh my appologies in that case dear sir. I thought QFT stood for quit fu**ing trolling.
I better head off to bed before I make a bigger mess on this forum...
