Thank You Cryptic. Never Participate in Your Promotions

I learned my lesson for participating in STO promotions including most of t he "pre-order" exclusives, Lifetime subscription, and lastly, refer a friend promotion.

Never participate in Cryptic's Promotion.

Why waste time and money when Cryptic will introduce the items via C-Store for mere fraction of the original "cost?"

well the galaxy-x technically could be called almost free. all you have to do it invite your friends, and have them spend their money on the game. while I believe that the galaxy-x should never be in the game more or less in the C-store. nothing forced the people to go out, and but 5 copies, and five one moth subs. if they put in a little hard work and invited some friends they could of gotten it for free.

This just in: I’ve just received confirmation that there are solid plans to add the Galaxy-X to the C-Store in the very near future. If you are purchasing the Steam sale solely for the Galaxy-X referral rewards, you’ll get a better deal if you wait for this item to hit the C-Store. Also, for those who already purchased several copies of STO just to get the Galaxy ship, we’ll be gifting you $50 worth of CP as a special thank you. :D

I don't know what kind friends you have, but none of my friends watch Star Trek or let alone, play Star Trek.

How is it "free?" The time and effort that people spend to recruit five people can be computed as part of the "cost." As for me, I am an impulsive buyer, so I decided to purchase 5 copies and have them subscribed, to receive this ship.

And so soon, Galaxy-X will be available via C-Store.

I don't know how far Cryptic is taking with prioritizing cheap and quick cash flow over long-term customer satisfaction? (Offering monthly subscription, ingame transaction, cheapening promotional items, and lifetime subscription?) Never saw a MMO title that flip-flopped on its stances, so many times.

you missed the work almost. i said it was almost free. the almost covers your time in to getting your friends to play.

as for my friends all of my real life friends are computer nerds, who most of them play EVE, and SWG. now I chose not to recruit them because I feel the game is not really yet.

and the bright side at least they did this now when there are less people who have it, instead of down the road when more people had already did what was needed to get the galaxy-x.

My apologies for harsh words. I was just so furious with Cryptic's recent announcement that I lost my self-control.

I play Eve Online too and when they introduce "exclusive ships" or "items," they will never have them available again.

I own 4 Guardian-Vexors, 1 Raven State Issue, and several of Freki and Mimir. Did I ever see them available to general populous again? I don't think so.

This is so ridiculous. I feel so pathetic, spending so much time and money, collecting these exclusive items.

Yea so much for me having an ounce of faith in Cryptic, in appeasing collecting aspect of this game.

Once again, I learned my lesson. Never participate in Cryptic's promotions.

Not so! I am still happy about my pre-lifer order. Even when they add the Borg cap to the C I will be happy, because it WAS a deal.

Now the other offers, I don't know. I got one copy of the game, with the NX registry and Kaaahhhn! emote (I like Khan!) Oh, and the little turret thing, that's nice a low levels.

I thought about the other TRIBBLE, then decided it wasn't worth the investment. I love Trek, but I didn't know anything about this Cryptic company. What I know of Atari, well that made me grip my wallet even tighter...

Best way to avoid buyers remorse? Don't buy stuff that has the potential of getting you down, just how I roll. Everyone is different though, I do feel your pain! :(

Gotta love it how people were outraged over hearing that the Galaxy-X was part of the referral program.
And now when they are going to give an optional way to get it people throw up the desperate cash grab sign again.

*sigh* theres just no pleasing people.

I will continue to push STO on people. I did it before the Galaxy X, I did it inspite of the Galaxy X and I will continue to push STO to anybody that will spare the time to listen to me.

For real! Only some kind of crazy person would actually recommend a product they like to people they know simply because they want their friends to enjoy it too

My thoughts exactly any future promotions from Cryptic shall be avoided at all cost, after all its cheaper clearly cheaper to wait and it will always be in the c-store later.

At least the Pre-Order items lasted about 4 months before being added, the Galaxy X lasted less then a month since the bug was fixed to claim it. So im guessing the next promotion will be available in the C-store 1 day after the Promotion ends at this rate....

Man, I wish my parents were like some of yours. If I cried for something, all I got was told "Better stop crying, or I'll give you something to cry about!" Then again, my mom was in the Air Force, and my dad was former Air Force, so they were strict.

And I thank them for it. :)

What kind of nonsensical comment is that? I am 'whining" for a legitimate reason. There's barely any collecting aspect of this game. I thought promotional items are of the few options where I can satisfy my desire to collect, but one promotion after another, Cryptic made them available again for merely a fraction of the original "costs" that they initially offered.

And you are here, whining about how we whine. Thanks.

Qouted for truth if I even thought about whining to get what I wanted the belt came off and you can guess where it went

Well, first of all, it was a blanket comment about all the people saying that all players have to do is go 'crying to their mommies, and they'll get a cookie.'

And I wasn't whining about how others whine. I was merely pointing out that I'm thankful my parents didn't do that. If I had wanted to whine, I would have thrown some mini-tantrums just like you have.

Take it how you will, but, considering the number of threads and posts you've made on the subject, you won't be happy until you have Cryptic's blood on your hands.

Good luck with that, buddy. ;)

Good grief. Cryptic really can't win with this one, can they?

They make the AGT Galaxy a referral reward - lots of people complain about it, and insist it go into the C-Store or similar instead.

In response, they plan on adding it to the C-Store at a later date - people complain about it, insisting it stays exclusive to the referral program.

It's almost like some people just want to moan about things for the sake of it. I never had a problem with the referral program - it's not that difficult to find people who want keys, and it's just a matter of time before you get the full five. I haven't yet, but I'm in no hurry. And once you get the various perks along the way, the best thing is that they're FREE. So, yeah - very little work required, and no monetary cost, for what is a rather nifty bonus item - and that's a problem how, exactly?

And now that it looks like the AGT Galaxy's going into the C-Store, that's only a good thing - it's easier to get than by touting referrals, but it actually requires money to get it. Seems like a fair trade to me - either you put the work in, or you pay for it. Depends how desperate you are to get your mitts on it, I guess, but it's a good compromise that allows everyone access to an iconic ship with cool in-game powers, without completely undermining the referral rewards scheme.

Cryptic's not perfect, and they've done some things with STO that they could have approached in a better way. This, however, isn't one of them - this is simply them trying to appease as many people as possible, which is pretty good of them, really. And what do they get for it? Bitten on the TRIBBLE by the player base, that's what - that's gratitude for you...

Cryptic simply can't win because they decided to produce a game for a fanbase which contains *some* of the most intolerant, xenophobic, jealous and unforgiving nit-pickers i've seen: Star Trek Fans.

    And the bad thing...
