I apologize for my response. After thinking about it, I tried to go back and edit it, but you beat me to it. You're right, I was focusing on one word: tantrum. My rude response was an emotional reaction to your dismissal of my post as a mere tantrum.
I'll respond to your last post in a more civil manner shortly, but I wanted to get this apology out first. I'm also going to try to go back and edit my rude response to DES_SNIPER before he sees it.
I apologize if I have offended or seemed dismissive, that was not my intention.
We all pretty much had access to the same amount of information. Some of us made decisions much the same as you did. Some of those people are happy, some are upset. I am not going to weigh in on the legitimacy of either side; all I am saying is that you could have directed your communication right at Cryptic in a more private manner. I am not saying that would necessarily be better, but it would have avoided a lot of the arguments and unnecessary hostility.
The thing is when I feel that a retailer has done me wrong intentionally or unintentionally I contact the management, I do not stand in front of their store and shout about it. No, I go right to the source, to the management a file a complaint.

In hindsight, I think your approach would have been better.
I really did just want to make a statement to Cryptic about how their marketing tactics have made me feel about them. Yes, other posters have every right to disagree with me, but it was not my intention to engage in a flame war over this topic.
When the news about the C-Store items first broke, I saw many angry posts in the General Discussion forums. I did not respond to those. I took quite a while to think about what I wanted to say. When I finally decided what message I wanted to convey to Cryptic, I decided to do so in the Feedback forums because I thought that would be the appropriate place to do so.
Honestly, given that Cryptic provides feedback forums, it never even occurred to me to communicate with them in any other way. In another MMO that I play, feedback forums are virtually deserted. They are rarely read by anybody other than the devs. I thought (incorrectly, apparently) that these forums were similar.
This was my first post in the Feedback forums. All my other posts have been in the General Discussion forums. Had I wanted to rally others to a cause, seek sympathy from others, or otherwise argue about these matters, I would have posted there.
Yes, the feedback forums are definately a place to raise such issues, but as you have now seen, they are a little bit open, and can get a little wild. I generally try to keep my feedback within the feedback forums to technical issues and things I might like to see, or other in game related issues. I think marketing issues or questions of ethics (corporate or individual) may be best addressed by contacting them directly. However, I do not speak for Cryptic, they may prefer it if every type of feedback was through these forums.

and they took away the rarity of a free bonus item, that you paid nothing, it came free with the LTS.
I play a borg captain, and if my free item went into the c-store i would not feel slighted in the least, i got the item for free and bofore other people. I aslo have the galaxy-x if that went into the c-store, i would feel the same, but for the time i do think it is a good recruiting tool, it got me to work to get 5 ppl.
you got more than the items that they are offering in the c-store when you bought those copies, and you did get 60 days free play (i know you are a LTS so they went to waste, buy it is included in the purchase price)
as was stated in the pre-order faq and many times before the pre-order item where going to be made availbale in the c-store, it is no cryptic's fault or atari's or the retailer's. you wanted those item before anyone else and at that time that was only way to get them. have you ever bought a new car when the model first comes out? at the beginning of the sales year they cost more and at the end they put them on sale, people know this and if they want car before other people they pay more. should they be upset when the price drops? the price of the collectors edition dropped are you upset over that? do you feel that you are owed the difference? games and movied drop in price all the time.
i'm sorry if your feeling upset, but before the game was release and before you bought those items it was made clear that they would be in the c-store, by wanting them now and not waiting you had to pay more no body forced you too, nobody cheated or betrayed you. you made the choice to get those items earlier than most and you did. you did waste money, but you had those items to play with and help you level for four months.
i bought many copies of the game, too, because it wanted those items i did buy most of them at a discounted price though. i knew that the item would be put in the c-store, but i wanted them to help me level and i do enjoy them, i do not feel slighted in the least for palying for them early, i did pay more than most but that was my choice.

Star Trek brings love and peace, excpet when the following are involved:
1) Best Capt argument
2) ST 09
3) Cryptic
That's for certain. Though good things can be said about each, from certain points of view. For all who complain about the PvP issues within the game, it's hard to find better spectator allowed PvP than you get on the forums whenever Cryptic makes a decision about the game. It erupts into thread after thread of defenders and detractors, all battling one another in spectacular fashion.
Yes, I'm aware of that, and I said as much in my post. So my point remains, as does my feeling of being cheated and betrayed. Four months after launch is far from "somewhere down the road."
I know it's already been said by others, but I just want to add my voice to those complaining to Cryptic about selling pre-order exclusives in the C-Store only four months after launch. I feel cheated and betrayed, Cryptic. I bought several versions of the game based on your implicit encouragement of this practice so that I could have multiple pre-order items. The whole point of spending all that money was to have something unique, and the placing of these items in the C-Store robs them of their uniqueness.
Yes, I knew that some of these items would probably eventually find their way into the C-Store, but prior to launch you stated you had no intention of doing that any time soon, and you certainly implied that it would be a long time before you would consider that. I don't consider 4 months from launch to be a long time.
I know, it's my fault. I shouldn't have trusted you. I should have assumed that a greedy corporation would TRIBBLE its customers out of money any way it could. So, yes, silly me. I was naive. But I won't trust you next time, be assured of that, and I will spread that word to everybody who will listen to me.
well your the idiot for spending that money on buying several copies of the game. and most the pre order stuff is just cosmetic like uniforms so quit complaining.
I can't believe some of you people. Attacking each other and being at each others' throats like this. I had no problem with Cryptic putting up the vendor pre-order and edition items. I knew that it was going to happen eventually. That's why I only got two copies of the game.
However, my beef with the C-Store fiasco is as follows:
1) Four months in is NOT "down the road". It's not even out of the damn driveway yet! I would've been a lot less butt-sore if they decided to wait a few more months to do this.
2) Why only some of the "exclusives"? Where are the other items? Why sell "Item X" on the C-store while "Item Y" is still vendor-only? Makes no sense. I want to see the rest of these items up for sale.
3) Who's making the calculations on the prices? It seems to me like someone's throwing darts (or TRIBBLE) at a chart and seeing what sticks. To me there's no method to their madness. Only the TWOK uniform and TOS Constitution made any real sense to me price-wise.
4) This is the big one...and the only one that I really have any sympathy with people for. Why put up the Mirror Uniforms for only 280CP? Cryptic/Atari told us that the ONLY way that we were going to be able to get this item was through the CO LTS...this was long before the "pre-order FAQ", so I feel that it doesn't count. Not to mention that anyone can get this for $3.50!!! And no, I did not get the CO LTS. I was really tempted, but couldn't justify paying $200.00 for a game that I had very little interest in playing.
So, in conclusion, as I mentioned several times, this was a really bad decision, and I was barely even affected by it. And I look forward to seeing the Galaxy-X up for sale on the C-Store for 1000CP just in time for Season Two to roll out.
well your the idiot for spending that money on buying several copies of the game. and most the pre order stuff is just cosmetic like uniforms so quit complaining.
I always find it amusing when someone who is barely literate calls someone else an idiot. Thank you for the chuckle.
Eh, some people really really really just want to keep talking about it that's all. It's my sincere hope that eventually they'll lose some steam and go argue about how Cryptic needs to remove the skill cap or how they ignore klingons or some other long-standing topic that plays out like an intense game of raquetball.
Well if we are going on the level of fairness to newcomers etc, then by that logic they should give that 50% refund to everyone who preordered the game and paid full price because like 2 weeks later they dropped the price 50%.
personaly i dont see how its fare that i couldnt get tos uniforms until latly, personaly i dont see how its fare that only those who have hundreds of dollars to blow on lifer subscriptians can get a liberated borg,
gauronteed i log more game time then anyone and do i get anything for free? nope
i give noobs free top gear, tell them what skills are effective, teach them how to farm, how to pvp
why dont i get some exclusive prize?
stop your whining, you feel cheated because now everyone can dress like you? sounds stupid to me

Partially right. First, they pinned a deck of tarot cards up to the wall, face side down. Then they took darts and threw them at the tarot cards. The order in which the cards were hit by darts determined the "shuffle" for the deck. After which, they told Miss Cleo which cards and in which order. She then sent back her advice.
Also, strangely, the TWOK uniform was free for me after the mega update. I rolled my eyes... violently... it hurt... I didn't want TWOK. Not that it's a bad uniform, but I didn't want it and it shouldn't have been free.

Poor you, you could have gotten any or all of those things if you wanted.. you chose not to ... too freaking bad for you.
Why should those of us that did pay the extra, did the extra work whatever, have to let our rewards be given away for next to nothing to crying babies ?
Meh
I lose faith more and more each week with this game.
Dear OP, if you haven't learned by now that Cryptic likes to make money whichever way possible, like any other company out there, you know, then I feel sorry for you.
1) Four months in is NOT "down the road". It's not even out of the damn driveway yet! I would've been a lot less butt-sore if they decided to wait a few more months to do this.
....which is what most people who bought multiple boxes wanted.
thats just it, theyre not being givin away, you have to buy them
lol and btw, just whos the crying baby ; )
Yes for next to nothing compared to what the ones that did the work for them had to pay/do.
And you are.. look are your post then look at mine again, its rather obvious its the screaming little girls in the game that want everything for nothing that wreck it for the ones that are (well I should say WERE) prepared to go that little bit extra for things.
Not any more Cryptic.. been bent over by you guys too many times now to fall for it again !
I ate to much Mexican food I feel bloated and unattractive, but I did not start a thread about it. These feelings have about the same amount of baring as the cheated and betrayed argument. We both got what we paid for, with a few bonuses, mine was indigestion, yours was STO Beta access and a MU uniform Set. It is what it is now take antacid chill pill.

I agree with your description of Cryptic, but I disagree that the description applies to "any other company out there." Not all companies are willing to make money "whichever way possible," because some means of making a quick buck will alienate customers. Such tactics may be profitable in the short run, but they often lose money in the long run.

I do not have an issue with Cryptic because I bought 'to' many pre-order items and got the digital equivalent of indigestion. I have an issue with Cryptic because they engaged in a misleading marketing campaign. And I have already repeatedly admitted that it's ultimately my own fault because I shouldn't have trusted Cryptic. So I'm not sure what 'baring' your indigestion analogy has on my argument.
Also, I never had the MU uniform set. You may be confusing me with another poster.

The TOS Enterprise costs about 10 bucks.
The entire game itself if you find it in some Gamestop Bargain Bins costs about ...
10 bucks.
And comes with the TOS Enterprise. And 15 bucks worth of gametime if you consider the free month.
Not in words no, but a lot of people around here act like it.
