*Yawns* What, I'm not allowed to tease Woe about being a rabbit...though really, I just have a reaction to crusaders for some reason.

Careful, if I land on the rabbit, he's squished. If I land on Cappy, I may be too happy about that :)

    Akh...bleed'n' Sassinach!

Actually, I'm French, Spanish and German not Irish or Scottish in any meaningful way! But, if he's an English Knight, that's different from a Crusader. I can't stand Crusaders...the English are fine though.

Quite a lot, to be honest, but I won't go into it. Let's just say that I really rooted for Saladin in that period of history.

Well, don't take my question as me wanting to brow-beat you about your dislike of the Crusaders. I was just wishing to have a discussion over it, hehe. And while I may not have rooted for Sala-ha-din, he was the better of the two sides in regards to his overall treatment of his enemies. I tend to remain neutral in these issues, only because I prefer to present what happened, and not what I would have preferred to happen.

Part of it was me joking around. I do, however, do a good job of putting aside my own personal feelings when it comes to research. I mostly just do not like the Crusaders over just how awful they were to people.

Pretty much. Of course, I prefer hating long dead civilizations. No one is around to care if I hate them.

You would be suprised. I know people that are pretty passionate about cultures they study, and anything disparaging you may say to them about their favorite study sets them off into some tirade about how you know nothing. There is a grad student here that is like that when it comes to anything about Latin America (and he is a white guy from North Carolina, so no ethnic ties to Latin America). It suprises me how people can get so focused on a singular path that they become obsessed by it. Like..us...posting on 10F as much as possible :p

Aw come on now, give the Crusaders some credit! They may not have been nice people, but they the holy purgation of God to bring upon the infidels! That's not an easy job, you know.

    I would know.

To really be fair, neither side was particularly cuddly. Richard the Lionheart took perverse joy in insituting things like his famous "Muslim tax" and talkin' all manner of sh*t about Saladin behind his back, and Saladin just seemed to enjoy killing Christians. Both leaders were pretty bloodthirsty, and they both had a war to win.
