This is Support Division XO Dr. Andrew Cullen issuing a priority one alert to all Rear Admirals.
Borg have Infected Starbase 82 and Starfleet has tasked me with assembling a crack team ready and willing to work together to reclaim the base. We have the strategy to defeat the borg queen(details will be posted at the 23rd Fleet site). Individuals willing to undertake this dangerous mission must contact me by Private Message me or reply in thread. There is no telling what these borg will be up to next so be on high alert.
I'm currently looking for a fleet that has enough players that I'm likely to find people to play with at most hours, have people who are doing the STFs and pvp; who are mature and good folks, no drama outside the game, and who use vent.
I am a 50 year old writer and gentleman farmer who lives life on my own hours, most of which right now are being spent in STO. I've been in guilds ranging from my current 2 members in Guild Wars (the rest left for WoW) to 300 members in Diablo 2. I beta tested UO and have been in the MMO game most of the time since then. I am a single father raising a boy with autism, which also keeps me close to the farm and home. I'm a big Trek fan from the 1960's on; I have a huge painting of a Galaxy blowing up a Warbird on my living room wall. I pre-ordered STO and got the lifetime subcription, and currently have 2 admirals capped and a third character at mid-Captain, along with a Lt. Commander and and Klingon newbie. I used to play Star Fleet Battles for years as well, which has some correlation to STO strategies.
I went to your site to see if your fleet was the kind of place I might want to join, but I couldn't find much available without registering. I don't like registering on guild sites since it seems they think you looking them over is the same thing as applying for membership. It is not. While I completely accept your desires to screen for people who fit well within your community, I am also screening you. I'd rather not have to join multiple fleets looking for something compatible, and I don't like creating hard feelings on anyone's part for leaving if things didn't seem as advertised. I don't want to apply to join multiple guilds then have to decide between them.
I should say that I also have a brother, in his 40s who is a nuclear engineer. We've been playing games together for decades, and since he lives across the country we use games, STO now, to keep in touch and have fun. We currently use Vent and play as much together as we can with his work schedule. He often works 6 12 hour shifts in a week then gets a week off, which means he plays a little, then a lot. Any guild that wants me would also have to take him, but once the ice is broken I can get him to meet with your people too.
I have a few questions for you: How many players do you have, how many play at evening or night hours US, and are you guys doing Infected and the other STF's regularly? I played solo and with my brother from headstart on, and have always meant to join a fleet, but only now with the STFs has the decision to move soon been forced upon me. Without a fleet and voice chat, the percentages of completing those STFs are lower than I'm willing to gamble on. Since my last guild went en masse to WoW, I've been basically on my own. That was ok before, but I could use a new group of online friends to game with. Maybe you folks are them. I'm subscribed to the thread, you can chat me up anytime here or in game, where I'm Shakkar@Shakkar.
HI there, while I can't speak officially for the senior officers I can tell you about my experiance of joining the 23rd.
I joined quite recently so this is based on a short time period but usually there's 10 or more people on when I play and as I play GMT hours I imagine there's more online during US times (there is always more on US time in any game I find). There is also usually a senior officer on too which is good for when you need a quick answer to fleet related questions.
Most of the members I've seen are RA with alts like yourself and we have vent so I doubt you'll have trouble throwing an Infected team together.
Anyways thats just my experiance with the fleet, I'm happy here, everyone else seems to be too and I hope you will be very soon .
While I can't invite you myself I'm sure if you PM a senior officer it won't be long before they get back to you.
Can't find that either, is because I've only registered recently?
Nope. That would be because I'm a twit and forgot to add you to the Cadets group until we get you sorted. Should be able to find it now. Sorry about that.
Hello Shakkar, I'm Admiral Kross, head of the 23rd's Tactical Division. We're fairly close knit, and on the whole, everyone gets along well. We range in age from late teens, to early fifties. At the moment, we are indeed running Infected, as well as working on getting all of our members up to RA.
You won't find a lot of drama, and when it does happen, its handled quickly and efficiently by the senior staff.
Hope this helps somewhat. Any other questions, feel free to ask.
For those looking fora bt of fun and the chance to win some prizes I have posted a short trivia contest under the Daily games section of the fleet site's forum.
I am Dr. Andrew Cullen, Commanding Officer of the Support Division; our motto "We keep you fighting"
head to www.the23rdfleet.net to see what we are all about and how you can join the ranks of the premier fleet in Star Trek Online.
Wait a minute.. have I been going to the wrong site all this time?! I mean the one in Springers sig... that may answer why I can't find the state of the fleet...

I don't want to sound too mercenary or me-first about it all, but as you can tell, I've been around the block a time or two with guilds and have seen the potential problems. I've seen guilds in schism from stupid political stuff like who gets to have a title and such. I've seen them break up over pvp vs. pve. I've seen backbiting and drama enough to last a lifetime. All when the stakes are really low in the scheme of things, but that seems to give arguments license to go that extra mile just because the stakes are so low.
So that's the negative side, one I've probably nursed a bit since my entire guild except my brother and I left for WoW a couple years ago. Rather than do the smart thing and join a new guild, I kept my old one alive with just my brother and I for the last couple years. While it certainly kept the drama down, it was a lonely way to play. But I'm starting to awaken to the good side of being in a guild; to enter game and know someone you like is going to be there. Sharing your accomplishments can be more satisfying than doing them alone. Seeing the same people every day. Being a part of something bigger again. These are good things I've lacked for awhile.
So, I'll be applying for membership. If you want to see me in game to show that I know how to play, I'll be available. I spoke to my brother today and he's game too. He's currently working 12 hour shifts but I'll get him to apply too. I look forward to meeting you folks.
As for which wing to belong to and such, I have 2 admiral characters, my tactical/escort guy and my science officer/science ship guy. So I can play both as attacker and support. My engineer/cruiser guy is Capt. 7 now and I expect he'll be admiral in a few days. I've found the cruiser to be a fine support ship, especially with an escort to protect, but probably not the best one to solo with. I expect I'll be able to take on all roles.
So from here I'll be going to your site, then into the game. Talk to you soon.
My stomach has been upset today or I'd have been in game already. I will take a nap, hopefully later today will meet more of you. I played several hours with a couple of you yesterday, both were great.
