I was just reading the system requirements, and I saw that it requires dual core processor. Has anyone played it with single core that has had any problems? I'm still gonna update just want to know if I can hold off for a bit hehe. Thank you!
I am also curious about the requirements. I'm dying to jump into this game but my processor and Motherboard are at least 5 years old. Here's what i got according to DXDiag...
if it even runs on it it will be not worth playing cause it will run very badly
Oddly enough, you are wrong.
I have been running it on my Single Core P4 3.0Ghz system with an old Nvidia 6800 and it runs just fine. Now, of course I have had to turn just about everything down, but it still works. I have participated in both the Starbase 24 fleet action and the Borg Kling. vs. Fed showdown (i dont recall what that one was called) and I played with hardly a frame rate stutter. The only time I had issues was with large asteroid fields. The framerates would drop a bit in those, but it was still more than playable. Though for me this is only temporary as I am in the middle of building out a new system.
So yes you can get by with a single core. But one misses out on the pretty.
Do I have a chance in Hell of entering the 25th Century?
Your CPU should be ok, but your video card is way way under the minimum requirements for the game. You have a X1300 and the X1800 is listed as the minimum.
If you upgrade your video card and install another 2 Gigs of RAM you should be able to run STO on low graphics settings.
Ok if you have a single core system you might be able to run it although Cryptic will not be responsible for how the game plays.
Also do not listen to people that tell you blindly to get a new video card and more RAM.
Chances are with a system that you have if you were to add more RAM and more importantly put in a new video card your PSU would not have the power to run your system and would give you all kinds of problems.
If you are unsure about how to upgrade your system ask someone you know to have a look or go to a shop.
My only advice would be if you are on a single core system then spending money on a card and PSU ,RAM etc is just a waste of cash.Save up and buy a new system or failing that get a good 2nd hand system.
Thanks for the feedback regarding my own system, guys. I was not aware that my video card was so old! I think i just replaced it about a year ago with the best AGP card I could find. As you can probably guess, finding them ain't easy!
I'm not in the position to get a new MB, processor and graphics card right now.... Maybe in 6 months I'll see how the game is progressing and do something about it then... or take a chance with my own system. A shame I'll miss out on the launch, though!
What do we think fokes ? Think if I turn all the settings down I can get it to run ??
Celeron 3.4 Gig CPU
2048 Ram
XFX Radeon HD 4650 Video Card - 1GB DDR2, AGP DVI
500gb Sata
P4EE 3.4GHz (Single-core but with Hyper-threading enabled)
4GB Ram (32bit so only 3.25GB usable)
AGP nVidia 7800GS (256MB)
On some maps (and most ground missions) I have to enable "Half Res" (a brilliant option, by the way), but I otherwise run everything except shadows on 100% or High.
And when I turn on Half Res, I enable 4x AA to smooth things out and it's quite nice!
Note, that when the game is running, my total RAM utilization is less than 1.5 GB. So 2GB RAM is fine. You get a lot more bang out of a video card than RAM as long as you have a minimum of 2GB.
I've gotten into some amazing furballs during fleet actions, and while I usually run half-res in those cases, the game runs really well. For most normal space missions, full res (without AA). Like the other poster, SOME asteroid fields dramatically drop my framerate, but again, half-res saves the day.

You'll be very lucky to get minimum graphics, and thats IF the game runs. Your listed system is way too underowered.
I installed STO on a single core system at max video settings and all seems to be running great at the moment. I'm using a Xeon 3.60GHz with 16GB RAM and a ATI Radeon HD 6450 video card. I have two processors, but from my understanding only one is being used.

ok well then it might but seriously say single core without saying anything else and you could mean a pentium 133 from 20 years ago
gotta tell us the specs or you'll get wrong/dumb answers/guesses

I've got the settings low (Not QUITE bottomed out) and while it stutters a bit in fleet actions or in particularly crowded spots, it's quite playable.
As the poster above said, however. You miss out on the pretty.

So it's VERY playable on single-core systems.

Check my post two above yours. I'm running it on less and while it's not as pretty it's quite playable.
