Speaking of this weekends UFPAC: There will also be many other fleet events that will escort that major event. There will be an Ambassadors Ball, Grind Events, a raffle and much much more. For a complete overview about what will be going on please follow this link:
As Wesstan has highlighted, the UFP certainly has a lot to offer. The Federation Council is in the process of bringing in new Councillor's. For people looking to join a community with strong member representation, the UFP may well be for you.
The UFPAC (United Federation of Planets Award Ceremony) was great fun with many medals and promotions awarded.
So there are plenty of things for new members to take an interest and get involved in!

And though we are a Star Trek Community with lots of opportunities to have your very own Star Trek experience we are also holding alot of events for the members of our 3 ingame federation fleets.
Today we will be running our legendary STF Sunday which is a great opportunity to play some Elite STFs and meet alot of our members ingame. For further details please click here: https://ufplanets.com/events.php?do=view&id=3146
... if you couldnt make it for the STF Sunday you may wanna join our ranks soon because STF Wednesday is coming up really fast (well... same as pretty much every week)
This August we will be celebrating the Day of Honour!
The Klingons are known throughout the galaxy as honourable warriors, this virtue makes them powerful threads and fearsome enemies and on the 16th of August we will be hosting a number of Klingon themed events where your honour will be tested. More information to follow soon.
I dont know if flying around in Xindi-ships can be called some kind of role-playing aswell but for those who are interested in the new Xindi-stuff: you will find a good summary to read at our Federation News section: https://ufplanets.com/content.php?394-Xindi-Lockbox-Revealed!
I've been playing STO for about a month, and it seems like it's time to look into joining a fleet, to make it easier to find folks for team actions, and to participate in the fleet aspects of the game, which I'm getting to realize are effectively a second tier to the game.
I've looked at UFP's web site, and I'm quite impressed by the quality of the site and the maturity of the forum discussions. In my past history with MMOs, I usually reach a point at which I start playing the game less and chatting with fellow players about lore and canon more; I think I may fit in.
Part of the reason I began playing STO was that it had a reputation as a relatively "casual" MMO, so I thought it would be a good game to play along with my tween stepson on my days off work, and it's worked out well. One concern about joining a fleet is whether my son could join as well. That would be a question on both sides, I expect: I can vouch for my stepson being quite well-behaved, and I know he'd want to be around people who are courteous and who don't chastise him for failing to meet their hypercompetitive standards for gameplay.
Please let me know if that's reasonable, and if so, we'll apply for membership.
It would seem that our exclusive interview with Star Trek Online's lead developer has resulted in a far larger site traffic than expected. Non-registered visitors may experience issues accessing areas of the website. We are working to resolve this issue and apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Final round of the Elite Force Disintegration Tournament tonight. Good luck to all competitors.
Elite Force is a great game that is available free to all members of the UFP. Very competitive first person shooter gameplay. You don't even have to actively take part - spectators are most welcome!
Ever wanted to learn more about 3D modelling and just what it takes to create a digital starship? Take a look at Expanding the Universe - A guide to modelling by UFP member Phoenix.
Everyone is always welcome to join, last I checked we had 700 or so members (not characters!).
In STO we're divided across 5 Fleets, 3 Fed and 2 KDF, using one channel to chat across the Fleets. The main Fed Fleet has fully developed holdings and we're only allowed one character in there. If we fill up, we boot the most inactive characters from there (but you just need to request an invite if you start playing again).
To my knowledge, many don't even stay in the main Fleet because of the lowered opportunities to gain Fleet Credits, compared to the incomplete 2nd and 3rd Fleet holdings. Since ships are the only thing you need to be an actual member of the in-game Fleet to purchase, they don't lose much by doing so.
