I just Got my Connie III and it gave me a thought for a new faction

I know, I know.

It gets talked a lot about how we need more factions in game that are not tied to fed or KDF.
But After Unlocking my Connie III I noticed that the vanity shields on it actually look really decent/good.

The Borg vanity shield on it is one of my favourites, so it gave me an idea:

A Borg faction, I had the idea that there could be a temporal anomaly and your character could be cloned so you can use all the ships of that character, but assimilated.

The lifetime subscription could get this as a unique faction given theres little to no significant benefits for Lifers anymore really, everything on that character would be cloned, from ships, to weapons.

So all the ships you'd have would get borgified hulls instead of the standard Federation/Klingon/Romulan/Dominion/Standard ship Hull materials.

Along side your own ships and ships from the C-store, you can claim a borg vessel such as the assimilator, juggernaut, a tactical cube, sphere or even a borg diamond, borg probes will be hangar pets.

As well as, special abilities/assimilated technology.

Everything off of the cloned character, ships, weapons, consoles, deflectors, warp cores, engines, shields and Boffs, would all get assimilated.

Weapons would get an [Assimilated] mod to them in exchange for a normal mod such as [DMG]
same for Ship deflectors, engines and warp cores with something like [BorgAdapt<INSERT HEAL OR DAMAGE INCREASE HERE>] instead of a normal mod such as [EPG], this will not replace unique modifiers to weapons/consoles/deflectors/engines, such as [ColCrit] from the colony deflectors.

[Assimilated] as a weapon mod:
My idea is that this would grant the user's weapons an extra debuff on top of the existing weapon debuffs of:
2.5% chance to inflict:
- Assimilation Nanites, this is like the Retrofitted Assimilator once an enemy is defeated, Assimilate them.
Along with: 2.5% chance: Restore 50 Hull each sec and improve Damage by 2.5% for 30 sec (stacks up to 4 times).

This will also change your weapons from their standard colour to Green, to be borg themed.

If you have the Assimilated Plasma Beam Array this restore hull is increased either from 2.5% to 5% chance and/or from 50 hull to 100 hull (Depending on which the player base would benefit from the most)

[BorgAdapt] this gives a ship the ability to adapt to a damage type of the incoming attacker or to adapt to what the enemy is weakest too the most - Multiple copies of this across deflector, shields, engines and warp core, mean that the effects stack will either double or output damage will be doubled. This will also apply special Borg attachments (similar to the assimilated module visual effects) would get attached to your ship based upon which [BorgAdapt] Mod you have rolled onto your ship shields, deflector/secondary deflector, engines or warpcore

As an example: [BorgAdaptRes] - this is similar to the [Adapt] mod: When your ship is hit, Adaptive Borg technology allows you to gain one charge, increasing your resistance to the incoming Damage type by 4% for 30 seconds. Stacks up to 10 times (per damage type).

Stacks double to 20 if there are at least 2 copies of [BorgAdaptRes] equipped on the ship.

This would give the ship a more bulky, rough look too it on certain ship hardpoints.

[BorgAdaptEn] - This allows you to adapt to the enemies weakest energy weapon statistic applying a bonus 4% out going damage as that damage type stacking up to 10 times - e.g. If the enemies weakest damage resistance is Tetryon deal an additional 4% outgoing damage from all energy weapons as Tetryon. T

This doubles to 8% if there are at least 2 copies of [BorgAdaptEn] equipped on the ship.

This would give the ship a more aggressive look with assimilated Turrets or beams placed upon the weapon hard points for the ship.

[BorgAdaptKinPhys] This allows you to adapt to the enemies weakest Kinetic or physical statistic applying a bonus 4% out going damage as that damage type stacking up to 10 times - e.g. If the enemies weakest damage resistance to deal an additional 4% outgoing damage from all Kinetic/Physical damages sources including: Torpedoes of all types, Mines, Exotic damage abilites, universal consoles as either Kinetic, or physical damage based upon the weakest statistic.

This doubles to 8% if there are at least 2 copies of [BorgAdaptKinPhys] equipped on the ship.

This would give the ship a more aggressive look with assimilated Torpedo launchers placed upon the weapon hardpoints for the ship.

[BorgAdaptHeal] this is similar to the [Adapt] mod: When your ship is hit, Adaptive Borg technology allows you to gain one charge, increasing your Base hull regeneration to the incoming Damage by 5% for 30 seconds. Stacks up to 10 times.

Stacks double to 20 if there are at least 2 copies of [BorgAdaptHeal] equipped on the ship.

This would give the ship a more refined/smooth assimilated look too it on certain ship hardpoints.

Ground weapons similarly, will also get a form of [BorgAdaptEn] and [BorgAdaptKinPhys], and ground armour and ground shields will also get a form of [BorgAdaptHeal] and [BorgAdaptRes]

The captain would also get special abilities while flying in space on top of the existing standard abilities for tact, engi and sci

Universal ability (applicable to all tact, engi, sci characters): Beam Aboard Borg assimilation party - this is the same ability where a borg landing party is beamed aboard your ship, disabling random subsystems and locking out abilities. - 60 second cooldown.

Tactical: Torpedo and energy weapon Volley - this upgrades all of your onboard weapons to 360 degrees and increases damage to those weapons by 200%, fires off all in a single, synced, firing cycle up to 10 targets within 10KM - 60 second cooldown (cool down can be increased for balance)

Engineering: Aggressive adaptation - This applies a 200% increase in damage resistance to all incoming damage types for 30 seconds - 60 second cool down. (cool down can be increased for balance)

Science: Borg Shield Neutralizer, normally an NPC ability, now made into a Captain ability, applies a heavy 200% shield drain the enemies shields over 30 seconds, increasing your own shields until they reach 100% all sides or until 30 seconds has passed - 60 second cooldown (cool down can be increased for balance)

The Borg would also get their own Social space in the delta quadrant: Uni-matrix 01.

Understandably the Borg wouldn't be able to visit any federation/KDF worlds or social zones, with the exception of Q's winter wonderland, (possibly a borg risa in the delta quadrant for the summer event as a form of an assimilated planet where you have to complete borg tasks)

Here you would get everything you get from the fed/KDF fleet holdings if your character forms a Borg uni-matrix together, same with making a Borg Armada.

only difference is, instead of visiting a K7/Colony/Spire, you'd visit a Borg Uni-complex containing everything.

At this point you get the gist of the idea, its wishful thinking and would likely take a lot of work to implement but it would be a very nice idea.

The devs have already gone on record saying no new Factions. Also, the way the game is setup, despite having the cross-Faction ability with most things, everything in the background is still coded FED/KDF, so there's no way to get away from everything being tied to FED/KDF.

Of course being part of Fed or KDF doesn't stop anyone from creating their own personal, private faction or origin that operates as part of them.

I have a Terran Empire defector who took his Paradox Temporal Dreadnought and crew and defected to Fed 2409. Is there an in-game "Terran Defector" faction created by Cryptic? No need for that.

For your Borg, there is a bunch of lock box and lobi gear and you can get Borg / Liberated Borg bridge officers to make your own personal faction.

Also, if you're playing as a Borg, you have no agency, not even the limited amount you get in-game now. You will go where you are directed, you will do as you are directed, you will die if the Collective requires it even if the reasons for requiring it are trivial. A Borg drone has absolutely no say in anything that happens to it, nor does it have a life outside the needs of the Collective.

And Liberated Borg already exist in-game, so that's a non-starter as a faction as well. Besides, what would Liberated Borg as a faction do that other factions don't?

The "alien" tab of the character generator is designed to do things like that, there is no reason for a proliferation of pre-made factions. The only thing along those lines that they really need is expanding the faction from Gamma with more than just Jem'Hadar so people who roleplay and/or do Space Barbie instead of just "roll play" the combat numbers would have some interest in making a Gamma Recruit, but that is a different thing altogether.

For instance, I have characters from all sorts of "independent factions" like Fesarian (and a few original offshoots from them), Abician (from Star Trek Continues), El-Aurian, Kobali, whatever Jayla is (possibly a Vau N'Akat offshoot, at a guess), Elasian, Kurillian (Vorta), an Undine spy, Vaalian, a Romulan who is a Jurati-faction Borg, and a few others. I also have (in addition to most of the TOS alien races who ARE in the Federation, like Violaceans, Ithanites, etc.) non-Trek aliens from other media, and even a race or two from my own writings that have nothing to do with Trek at all.

I have an alien who worshiped Sir Francis Drake, he modelled himself after his hero and joined Starfleet and another who is a clone of Churchill, Captain Pikes cousin, T'Pol's great great niece twice removed (Conceived during the reunification events of TNG, so a Romulan), a Klingon who is the great-grandson of General Chang, and finally my main who is a stylised recreation of myself.

Each character has a rich backstory on their character page (along with each Boff) for anyone to read, who wishes to view my stats.

What I'm trying to say is that the beauty of STO is the role playing aspect of the game, you get out of it what you put in. For an example my Pike character is a TOS character and he is my roleplaying toon. The fleet he belongs to is exclusively for TOS roleplaying. When I play that toon, I become that character, my fleet mates and I all communicate using mic's and have sound boards with all the TOS sounds. We meet up and run TFO's in our TOS ships before we communicate there is that distinctive chirp, our ranking includes Commodore (and we follow our superior's orders during TFO's), we run events and PVP against our sworn rivals The Klingons (sometimes the Romulans).

If you want to be a Borg grind out the Omega REP to level 6, save your dil and get a crew of Borg, I believe there are 3 in the game, but I might be wrong. Grind out all the Borg tech and weapons, they mostly all add visuals, Search online for other Borgified items in-game (like in the phoenix store or the Borg lock box ships) and finally find some like-minded friends. Create a Borg fleet and Role-play the TRIBBLE out of it my friend.

    Good luck.

There is also the Lobi store Armor and weapon, the face bits from one of the newer missions, all the Borg themed kit modules and weapons from the lockbox...

There are ways to have themed characters without needing a whole faction. The only thing a faction would give is communicator/warp/transporter/scan effects. Pure cosmetic. Getting the Assimilated set from Omega Rep can make your ship look assimilated already. AND you can use them in a cosmetic slot if you don't actually want to use them. You can get some of the Photons from Lukari rep if you want green Photon Torpedoes, grab a set of Assimilated Plasma Beams from the lockbox/Exchange...
