What is the Arc Client?
Install Arc

Consistent crashes on multiple characters and maps.

Charactername@handle : GRuntok, D'tara, Runch
Last map you were in (if applicable) : Gruntok (what lies below) D'tara (Sol system outside spacedock) Runch (inside Spacedock)
Map you were going to (if applicable) : Gruntok while Transitioning maps within the mission. D'tara While managin inventory. Runch While wandering around Spacedock.
What the issue is : Game hard crashes and most often causes my system to restart. The time between start and crash has usually been 20-30 minutes, and has not always coincided with map transitions. Seems to just happen no matter what i am doing.

What steps you already tried when attempting to resolve your issue (if applicable) : Verified Integrity in steam. Turned down graphics settings, changed resolutions, Uninstalled and reinstalled game. Waited for patches. All unsuccessful.

After multiple attempts have uninstalled the game till i can find out more as the hard crashes started to concern me. Will try again once i know more.

It sounds like your machine is overheating. Try cleaning your fans and heatsinks, particularly the CPU fan and heatsink, as STO hits the CPU harder than many other games. You might even need to repaste things if it's older than a few years. Look up a guide on Youtube on how to do that if just dusting things out doesn't work.

It looks like @tom61sto found what could be the problem.
I recommend you follow @tom61sto 's suggestion and clean out your desktop (or laptop), and please keep us updated if cleaning out the heatsinks and cooling fans worked (as a way to apply 'process of elimination' to a troubleshooting step).

So, Doom and Cyberpunk2077 are less thermally intensive on my card than STO is?
What is it doing to generate all that heat? Yeesh.

If using a laptop, invest in a cooling pad. I had the same issue on my old laptop, bought a cooling pad and the crashes stopped.
