A quick question for Kael to clarify something from Ten Forward on Feb 20...

@ambassadorkael#6946

I would like you to clarify a statement you allegedly made during this week's Ten Forward.

According to TriZander you said that
Non-Fed ships are kind of a 'snake eating its own tail thing', not as much as something like PvP. Most people who play STO want to play the fantasy of being in Starfleet, not playing some other alien faction/flying their ships.

Source: (Link removed for rules violation. - BMR)

That almost sounded like that there will be no more KDF, RRF and Dominion ships in the future anymore just because most characters in STO are Starfleet (which is no doubt true for various reasons unnecessary to discuss here).

I really hope that either TriZander misunderstood you here or that you worded that poorly, because as someone who mains an Orion this statement (again: if you really worded it like that) kinda makes me feel like a costumer you guys don't value as much as those who main a Starfleet character. :/

It's a comment which gets dropped from time to time to underline that most players play Fed.
There have been plenty of Dominion, Klingon, Romulan and otherwise alien ships since,

    Probably nothing to worry about.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Were there? Because if you look here there were only two non-Fed ships released last year (Lockbox ships excluded), and both were bundled with a Starfleet ship.

And the year before that there was only ONE new non-Fed ship outside of a lockbox.

I still want the npc Gorn ships! We proud lizard players need the ships of our people so we can rise up against our Klingon oppressors! #YearOfTheGorn

The comment predates agents of yesterday content and we've seen among others dominion and disco klingon ships.

Again, in case you misunderstood me: Lockbox ships excluded we only got 3 non-Starfleet ships in 2022 and 2023 combined, and two of them (the Legendary Bortasqu' and the Legendary Valdore) were each bundled up with a Starfleet ship (Legendary Avenger and Legendary Akira respectively). The only solo ship was the Legendary Jem'Hadar Attack Ship (in the Dominion Captain's bundle).

I would not mind seeing a "allies" bundle, KDF Carrier, RRW Sci Warbird (D7 based?) and Dominion battlecruiser.
put it in the C-store with no fluff, and let's see how they stand on their merit. I think it would sell

There was an infographic from Cryptic many years ago showing only 30% of players created any non-Federation captains. Since then they've revamped the Romulan and KDF episodes more than once, added ships and gear, added the KDF recruitment event. I even noticed new higher-quality cutscenes in the tutorial when I created a KDF recruit on my PS5 on Tuesday. The comment is nothing new, or anything worth feeling doom about.

That's just my opinion of course, I'd be happy to read an official response from Ambassador Kael.

I wonder if they are basing part of that assessment on the population of First City (which is often deserted except for NPCs) when they should be looking at Drozanna and DS9 for the KDF characters since First City is such a disorganized PITA mess.

I'm sure they have a good set of metrics tracking what percentage of the playerbase logs in on what character and how many aggregate hours each faction is ;used', etc. They also have actual sales figures on what sells the best, the worst, etc. they're tracking multiple data points taken from their own servers.

Yeah the First City is in a desperate need for a rework.
