The Experimental Ship Upgrade path has opened even further. Now you can apply more tokens to your ships, and get even more device, console, and trait slots!

x2 only provied 1 extra slot of each type and requires 2 tokens?
HARD PASS! Costs enough for the single tokens as it is, not gonna waste my time trying to get 2 for what only 1 gives me.
naah guys, Turbo Pass for me, another 2 Tokens just to get one more of the things that the first Upgrade for ONE Token gave??? Seriously, Tell me that you are a Ferengi without telling me that you are a Ferengi!

Much as I'd like your version, the original post makes sense:
Starting at T6, you need just one token to get to T6-X as we've already been doing;
To take that T6-X to T6-X2, requires 2 tokens;
(It makes perfect sense to me that we pay a higher price to get the extra stuff, so I don't see why folks are complaining over this.
After all, it's just exactly the same in most other MMO's!)
If we're starting with a base T6 ship, we're gonna need three tokens in total to reach T6-X2 status.
I can't help wondering though, given all the attempts to allow T5 ships to remain competitive, firstly with T5-U and then T5-X, do they get the chance to go to T5-X2 as well? If not, it's quite disappointing...

it's probably both greed, wanting to take 2x more money for a minor upgrade, and also a way to prevent steamrolling this through using temporal/gamma alts who get a free character bound ship upgrade at rep t6.
Now clowns, that's another story. They scare the crap out of me.
We fight them too. Entire armies spilling out of Volkswagens.
We do our best to fight them off, but they keep sending them in.
I really don't see why it wouldn't cost one extra token instead of two. I hope the team re-evaluates the price considering its the same unlocks - now if it had something like two universal slots or two traits that'd be worth extra money.

Yeah...it's totally greedy of them to throw so many free upgrade tokens at us on a regular basis as well eh!? They probably make literally next to nothing with C-Store token sales because they have been so generous. SMH

It's possible that this might discourage people from buying new ships because of the expense of upgrading to max (1 fleet ship module and 2 upgrade tokens).
However I doubt it'll have a massive effect, as most players probably only buy a small handful of ships max, and there are plenty enough upgrade tokens to cover that.

a mega corporation like gearbox being 'generous', suure. those freebies are like a drip feed, to keep people interested and put more serious money into the zen or dilithium, which they won't do if things are too cheap. if they made "literally" next to nothing, the game would be shut down a long time ago. video games, esp. mmos are still a business, not a charity.

I wrote something about this one some other posts i don't remember but how about some love for the shuttles/small craft with that token. The x token should have more uses like apply to the shuttles to upgrade them a bit. also reskin some TFOs for small crafts. I still remember the days where you can fly the delta flyer which i was flying at the time in a Borg TFO. Those where the days before they fixed that glitch but man it was difficult but when hold on and don't mess around you can win that tfo even with shuttles.... took time but it happened on occasion.
This feels like a new player/customer trap that may potentially backfire.
Say a new player comes into the game and they really like X ship. So, they buy it from the C-Store for 3000 zen. Then, they find out there is a fleet version - so they're up to 3500 zen. Then, they find out they have to upgrade it twice more with 3 X tokens - meaning they find out they have to pay 5500 zen for that ship. Telling a new player they have to pay $55USD to fly an un-gimped version of the ship they enjoy is probably going to be a pretty hard sell. They're being nickle-and-dimed for almost the entire cost of the T6 ship by itself. (It gets even worse if that player wants a promo ship.. and learns they have to shell out even more to fully upgrade it once they do actually manage to obtain "one".)
Obviously, it's less of an issue for established players, and I suspect the exponential upgrade cost is aimed at this demograph who are sitting on piles of upgrade tokens at this point. However, it is still a pretty alarming price hike if you're looking at it from the lens of the C-Store/zen cost. If the exponential upgrade cost continues, it's going to get very ugly, very quickly.

I mean 2 tokens for yet another trait slot is worth it, alone. Let alone another console slot. You know how insanely broken ships have already become with the the amount of ship trait/console slots we have now? Yet another ship trait and console is bonkers.

But it's not the same unlocks - you're unlocking a second extra device slot, a second extra trait slot and a second universal console slot rather than the first extra device slot, a first extra trait slot and a first universal console slot.
It's the same in almost all other MMO's out there that further unlocks tend to cost more.
What we should be worrying about is the pattern that's started here. Will it be:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc.
or
1, 2, 4, 8, 16, etc.

truthfully this is interesting...though i was hoping that we could eventually just upgrade our old ships...the T-5s and below to T-6 types...and then eventualy just have a base ship module layout if we got to that point......5 forward and 5 rear weapons...consoles at 15 of them and devices at either 5 or 6 max.....ie. we could upgrade that ship that didnt have all that to that sort of layout....like some of the birds of prey and klingon ships and my old star ships that where not even T-5. I mean its greta we can constantly buy a brand new ship.....but my old ships.....i sort of miss them.
Also when does this roll out, i cant seam to upgrade past the T-6X i have a number of T-6X but there are some i want to go further with.

Would have preferred it being only one token to go through each level. This proposed system could get expensive when we're talking T6-X3+ etc.

It is bad to see that Cryptic uses Beer Math to come up with the token costs per upgrade.

At least, it's not yet another different thing to buy to improve your stuff.
We'll just use the old tokens most people have a few extra of and they will look out for themselves and stifle it.
Whatever I'm glad their isn't a new token... I also assume like Tx6 this is an account unlock. It doesn't specifically say it is.
If its using the same system, then yes it will be account wide.
I assume so as well... but it makes me wonder when they don't mention a fairly important selling point.
Its coming with the Incursion update on Sept 12. It's not in game yet.

to be fair they did use the language "now" in the post so I thought the same thing and stared at the Manage Ships person very angrily lmao

Agreed. This new upgrade is too expensive.
BTW: When does this go live? Because I can't apply an upgrades to my T6-X ships, but everything is worded as if this is already available in the game.
Thanks. I read that the first time, then forgot and didn't see it again when I skimmed through it.
