It's a longsword with straight quillions. Not an uncommon design, as curved quillions took longer to make.
Yeah that's quite a generic design when it comes to longswords or European cross hilt style swords in general as arming swords and great swords used similar designs with just slightly different proportions.
I've seen those here and there. are they a lockbox drop?
not that I'm all about it. but if they ever put a katana in game I have a character to build
The closest thing to the Eysian Spellsword from the Risan favors store that I know of is probably the Terran Emperor's Sword, though it is bulkier (it is more like a broadsword) and has bent quillons and a fancy ricasso (that is the reinforced, non-sharp part of the blade just forward of the quillons). There was a code-event from a third-party company (I forget which one) that gave a code for a package containing it so there are probably more of them in the game than there would have been otherwise.
There is also an item that modifies the third weapon attack slot from a rifle-butt slam or palm strike into a dagger slash, I forget where that one came from.
As for Sulu's folding katana, people have been asking for both that and his rapier from TOS for quite a while, so unless there is some sort of objection from Paramount Global it will probably end up in the game eventually as the events are chewing though things like that fairly quickly.
A more realistic sword that would have been great for the 2009 movie considering they already have energy-reinforced materials in the show as early as ENT (and because Sulu was already established as being an expert European-style fencer), would have been a rapier or schlager with a blade that is so flexible that it rolls up into a compact form when the power is off but unrolls into a rigid blade when powered.
Safety end caps on the rolled-up blade could flip out to serve as side rings for a more compact storage configuration than a full basket hilt too, to increase the cool factor without falling back on the old Asians-with-katanas trope.
