Considering we got enough ships left to make a normal C-Store Wolf 359 Bundle... why jump straight to Legendary when they don't even exist in game at all with NO variants?

Last night on Ten Forward there was a one-off comment about the Inquiry needing another variant (to accommodate new deflector refit). So that could lead to a Legendary Avenger/Aribter/Inquiry in the foreseeable future.

Possible, but honestly I hope that its a C-Store version rather than Legendary. But that's just me. The Inquiry didn't really spearhead anything like most of the others, and it wasn't quite a fan favorite like the Akira. So using the established criteria for Legendary... kind of a gray area?

The BortasQu' could definitely stand to get a legendary version finally, considering Starfleet and the Romulan Republic have one for their own flagships. In my opinion it should get a hangar bay too, like both of the others. It's certainly big enough. (Although the HoH'SuS bird of prey pet seems to need a bit of fixing; it doesn't even count as a pet for abilities like Engage the HYDRA.)
The Jem'hadar should also get a legendary flagship, in that vein. Would it be fitting if they got a ship named after Odo?
Their "Odo's flagship" is technically the Dreadnought cruiser, but I'm hoping for a legendary vanguard dreadnought carrier. If the skeletons of these two ships are compatible. I'd like to see them as the new legendary flagship being a dreadnought carrier with vanguard mechanics would be awesome.

Or they could give the current Inquiry an additional option for a normal deflector...
That ship is expensive enough to warrant it. And it's hard to justify releasing a half-finished copy-paste ship in a promo-box, only to release the finished ship later.
It's kind of the same thing they did with the Styx. Add the most basic yet very expensive ship with no other options and parts, and then release such an option as an entirely new ship.
Personally, I would be very annoyed if they did the same thing and made another Inquiry variant, without giving those who already own it a way to get the parts - especially as they should have been included in the first place, instead of the whalebone thing that had to pass for a deflector.

Unfortunately I believe that at the time of the Inquiry's release... that was the only known variant, and I think it was a model shared by CBS and converted for use in STO.
If a variant with a deflector came out AFTER the release of the Inquiry... its kinda unjust to call out Cryptic for "releasing an unfinished product" when at the time it was in fact fully completed. They don't have precognitive powers to say "Oh there's going to be a variant with this exact deflector. Lets make it in game before it is even shown on screen." They can't do that. They can only do what they can with the material they are given. And at the time the Inquiry didn't have an exposed Deflector.
TLDR: You can't just retroactively call out someone for something that didn't exist at that time.

Nothing prevented them from designing their own deflector though and adding that as an additional option though. ::shrug
They have talented ship artists, they're not entirely dependent on CBS for their designs.
Also, they may not have precognitive powers (and I doubt anyone would blame them for that) - but everyone knew and could see that very little effort was put in (or budget remaining to properly design) that fleet in that episode of PIC.
They could have chosen to not release a low-effort filler ship through a promo box and instead wait and see if something was going to be done with the design, something that would make it more deserving of being such an expensive and exclusive thing to unlock.
Even if they could not have known whether something else was going to be designed, they did know that very limited resources were devoted to its design and that it wasn't meant to be used extensively.
Which brings me back to the first sentence of this post: if you're going to take a ship that was basically filler for a few seconds on screen, and turn it into something playable and very expensive, then it wouldn't have been unreasonable to add some additional options. Nor do I think my expectations are unreasonable when I'd like them to make any new deflector parts - if they're going to design them anyway - unlock for those who already own it.

Hate to be THAT guy, but... it DID come with options because it was tied to the Avenger line. Yea they frakked up with making the 3 piece Avenger set dependant on getting a promo ship, but you can use Avenger and Arbiter parts on the Inquiry.

Sure, if you own those ships. Besides, it forces you to replace the entire hull, which means you'll basically be flying an Arbiter. And ships using parts of different ships seldom look good, if those parts weren't really designed to work in conjunction.
I'm going slightly off-topic here, but you can also see this with the Intrepid line for example. There are weird lines that suddenly stop somewhere halfway the hull when you mix different parts together. Or the saucer and the deflector don't align well, for example.
The result just isn't the same when parts are released far apart, unless the designer specifically aims for good integration between the different models.
The best thing is, generally, to get different options from the onset, with multiple options for a single ship.

Which is where I'd like a Legendary Avenger, making the set more accessible. C-store Inquiry refit? Would love it. But given the Inquiry is already promo that's more or less giving up on Inquiry sales for the promo box to go that route.
Though with so many ships in RNG packs of one kind or another, and more ships being added to them (nearly) each month, that trade-off is probably moot. Cryptic would prefer mudd dollars or legendary but there is a point to be made that trying to extract cash to the nth degree on EVERY ship that's been RNG relegated probably isn't that productive (since each release is going for the same market, tapping it out without diversification beyond ship interest.) Ie. You may not be getting new money from these kinds of bundles as they're competing with other bundles for the same dollars, with any one sale taking money away from other releases, for any player who isn't buying literally everything. Making everything a mega-bundle may just be shifting the bulk of their sales between them, it doesn't necessarily create new dollars. Varying the format up with new c-store variants of low-priority loot box ships could buff cash flow through exciting diversification into sub-whales (and come up with something new to do in the c-store beyond releasing old Trek background FED ships and the few T6 refits that are still needed, a list which you can now count on the fingers of one hand for readily marketable ships. It's at its practical limit.)
And if the experiment falls flat on its face, the Inquiry hasn't had lasting cultural impact on the franchise (as Picard applied the distracted boyfriend meme for its approach to new ships. Sagan, Excelsior II, Connie III...) so losing very late iconography sales on that one ship (promo still has its console, trait, and exclusive grill, a c-store variant isn't a 1:1 replacement) isn't going to hurt Cryptic's future by any conceivable measure. And Cryptic can still release mudd bundles (leveraging the trait, console, exclusive grill) and an even larger legendary Avenger line on top of it.

There is reason to update the Typhoon materials though. The model is still in use in some places, like the Dyson Sphere.
Some of the Undine episodes might still have them as NPC ships too.
It could be part of a bigger project. We've had a few contests, like for the Risa summer event and the Jupiter. Quite a few designs from those contests remain unused.
Given that they just (to great popularity) updated and re-released some of the oldest designs the game has, I don't think at least an update for the Typhoon isn't that far-fetched. That could be a first step towards legendary treatment.
Personally I don't really care about the design. But it would be more original than yet another Galaxy variant. If some ships apparently deserve being redesigned, updated and given all sorts of additional options, surely devoting some time to create one ship that would actually be a new playable ship is also justified?

Well... here's the thing. Its actually POSSIBLE we can. That's how we got the Valkyrie (Star Trek: Invasion) and Kodai (Star Trek: Shattered Universe/Star Trek: Starfleet Command Vol. II) fighters after all. Ship Team asked the Powers That Be at Paramount If they COULD bring in ships from other Star Trek games, and the answer was "as long as you rebuild the model yourself, yes." So as long as Cryptic builds the models from the ground up, it DOES open up designs from other games.
And for some reason they made a point to say something about NOT getting the Ark Royal. Which to me sounds like we might eventually. Why keep bringing up the Ark Royal?

So just got to thinking, weve had several legendary ships come out of some of our favourite ships, which would you like to see next?
I think the most likely are the Prometheus, Negh'Var, and JHDC, though I would also like to see the Inquiry, Galor, Bortasqu', and Nova (there are others I'd like to see too, but they don't have enough existing variants in-game yet).
That would leave the 2250s Discovery era ships that have not been given the Legendary treatment as viable options
