GUI doesn't accept keyboard inputs (FIXED)

(edit - Reddit advised that I needed to set the brightness controls that were in the background to enable the keyboard. Weird but it worked.)
I have a new computer I'm trying to use for STO for the first time. Launching the game through Steam and directly via .exe. I get through the launcher screen fine, it accepts keyboard input for password when launching directly. Once the GUI comes up I get the email verification request. But the dialogue won't accept keyboard input. I can use the keyboard fine in other games I launch via Steam so this seems to be an issue only with STO. Any tips? Thanks.
