Romulan Recruitment Event Idea

Hey with the TOS fed Klingon and Dominion recruitment events when will there be one for the Romulans?

The Delta Recruit event covers all 3 main factions at the year 2409. In this fashion, all starting possibilities are covered by a Recruitment event with the exception of the Discovery-era.

I was meaning Romulan Specific. would be nice to have an event like the KDF recruit to give people an event Romulan ship and equiptment. for example introduce the Romulan Z-1 Nova or Winged Defender as an event ship like how Klingons get the bird of prey.

So this suggestion is really all about getting a free T6 Warbird?

Yes and maybe some Romulan event equipment. What I enjoyed the TOS, Klingon, Delta and Dominion ones it just seems odd that the Romulans are left out.

The Romulans are not left out, they are the tip of the spear in the Delta Quadrant since they have the gate that gets everyone else there. While any new Romulan content would be welcome (and they in theory could do something like the recent KDF arcs that are mainly one faction but everyone else can play too) making an extra recruitment to do that would be redundent.

The Klingon recruitment ship is a small escort, if the devs did decide to give away a Romulan (or faction-specific multi-box) ship in Delta (or whatever) it would probably be an escort or other small ship like the KDF recruitment, not something the size of a FASA Z1 battleship or V30 heavy battlecruiser even if they could legally use those ships in the game.

Well if the free ship is the winged defender it could be a light cruiser. But I'd more love to have Romulan equipment for a character recruiting event.

Considering the TOS version of the Constitution class is called a "temporal light cruiser" in the game I suppose they could call the Romulan heavy battlecruiser built to counter the Constitution class of the same time period the same thing, but what they might call it would be irrelevant since it probably will never happen.

As far as I know of Cryptic does not have a deal with FASA to license the V30 Winged Defender from them. If they did have one, then the ship would undoubtedly already be in the game since it is probably the number one most requested Romulan ship in the forums. While they could license it from FASA in the future I would not hold my breath waiting for it to happen since Cryptic got burned rather badly by licensing deals in the past and are very reluctant to license third party ships nowadays.

And again, the KDF recruitment offers a B'rel variant so it would be highly unlikely they would include a much bigger ship in a "Romulan Recruitment" transponder of some kind, especially an enormously sought after one that whales would pay big money for like the V30.

Another FASA ship a lot of people want in STO is the Orion Wanderer, especially since it was in DS9 (albeit only as a wireframe on a small screen showing the specs of the ship the characters were talking to) which gives it a sort of quasi-canon mystique. Unfortunately, those are not likely to ever be in the game either.

One thing they could do would be to put a small ship box in the transponder stuff that gives an escort or whatever of the proper faction (or an Alliance one specifically made for it), but the ship and the bat'leth the KDF recruitment has is the "standout" feature for that recruitment so I doubt the devs would want to erode that feature by giving a version of it to every recruitment.

By that logic, Starfleet have also been left out.

Went and looked up the specific ships you talked about, OP. Both of those ships belong to different IPs and are not currently available to CBS, Paramount, or Cryptic. Which means at best it would be very difficult for Cryptic to place them ingame. CBS, as the primary IP holder now for Star Trek, probably wouldn't allow Cryptic to use either mesh or skin. Because then CBS would have to pay licensing fees to the current owner of those ships.

Both of the ships mentioned were FASA ships (though a third party added a few refits to the Z-1 to extend the service life of the line into the TNG era, which could make it look like two different IP owners). FASA currently does not produce games anymore, the company has transitioned into an IP holding company that leases their old ships and whatnot to other games.

Legally, the same company has always owned the IP rights to series-Star Trek (movie Star Trek ownership is a bit more complicated), and that is the studio known as Desilu for most of the 1960s before it was bought out and renamed "Paramount Television", then later renamed as one of the CBS portfolio of studios. Whoever owns that studio in effect owns the IP, just not directly, and currently ViacomCBS owns that studio.

The result is the same though, as we both said it would be highly unlikely that STO could ever use the designs.

This would be most welcome; a "Year of Romulan" absolutely needs to happen after YoK and the lot of (very nice) Terran stuff. More menacing Borg & Elachi (and combat achievements against the Collective and Iconian Whole), more Disruptor/Plasma weaponry, debugging old costumes/uniforms (and adding few new ones), facial hair options (and updating the hairstyles), adding new sectors to the Beta Quadrant, a new ShiKahr/Vulcan map, expanded New Romulus map (esp. into the Citadel and Reman area), R&D achievements relating to The Vault (along with fixing the Defera Zone R&D), further exploring the origins of the Tal'Shiar, discussing Mnhei'sahe & D'era, having a new mission (or a few) take place in Vorta Vor, reworking of old missions to be able to un-necessitate Tovan Khev & sister, resettlement of Crateris and Virinat, a third ground weapon slot for meant for but not restricted to melee (and the introduction of Honor/Shadow Blades), a Nopada Prime adventure zone (collecting bits and pieces of tech and TS holdouts), the Republic having internal stress over rival "Traditonalist" v. "Reformist" camps (the former being closer to Obisek and the latter being closer to D'Tan), perhaps the Star Empire having a significant split along anti-Servitor v. pro-Servitor lines?

Perhaps something like "Unification Recruitment", with a Ni'Var tie-in. The theme being something along the lines of "For the survival of our people", an original or semi-original character to guide the recruitee (perhaps 23c or 24c Dvex), and a Heavy Pistol (pistol from promo material) + Khenn (Command) Warbird refit + special DOff. (perhaps one of the Fleet Support powers, such as the Auxiliary to Structural heal variant of Damage Control Engineer) as rewards?

I'm not sure they actually DO need anything from FASA to put the Winged Defender in the game - they've already stated they can add models that have appeared in other trek games as long as they build the entire thing from scratch, and that particular ship has appeared in both SFC and Armada. Unless that statement was only referring solely to ships designed specifically for a game in question, not ones that had been obtained from third-party sources.
Like special weapons from other Star Trek games? Wondering if they can be replicated in STO even a little bit? Check this out: https://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/discussion/1262277/a-mostly-comprehensive-guide-to-star-trek-videogame-special-weapons-and-their-sto-equivalents

No that statement was for any ship from other sources. As for getting a new Winged defender model Resurrected Starships did a cool update of several Romulan ships that if asked he'd gladly help in making for STO. https://youtu.be/wLNGSz1Gir4 here's his video on the ship. Give the ship abilities similar to the Section 31 science destroyer and an advanced Romulan battle cloak.

While the devs have stated that they are not planning to make any new recruitments, a "year of the Romulans" or similar event would definitely be great. Were they to plan something like that though, with SNW so recently touching on the Romulans, I suspect that the devs would want to avoid the Romulans for a bit until they can be sure they will not get canon-shafted by the show going a different direction with them.

The devs would have to come up with something new for a "year of" style arc though since the story threads from Legacy of Romulus were all tied into the Iconian war arc and that war is over at the current "now" point for new content, not that that should be much of a problem since with all the gate and Dewan loose ends they have plenty of possible storylines to follow up on.

The Winged Defender is almost certainly the most requested Romulan ship from other games, though since it is FASA it might be more tangled legally than other games' ships.

On one hand, the original license from Paramount has some questionable language in it which implied that they had joint ownership of anything FASA made for the game though they were apparently reluctant to test it in TNG or the movies beyond using a wirecage of the Orion Wanderer-class as a named, but unseen directly, recurring ship in TNG and DS9.

On the other hand, FASA has transitioned away from being a game company and now makes its money licensing designs and whatnot from their old games to other game companies, so they are the most likely company to try to bring legal action against STO for using any of their designs without paying them.

That said, I hope they do bring out the V30 Winged Defender (which in the FASA game is a heavy battlecruiser designed to counter the Constitution class if anyone doesn't know already) and some of the other FASA ships like the Wanderer and the T10 Bright One destroyer.

Aye, Iconian/Dewan stuff + a lot of open-ended Borg (Collective/Cooperative) stuff to build off on. What has been going on with those xB planets to the "northeast" of Romulan space? What's the V'Ger-Unimatrix Vessel connection? Is the Collective licking its wounds and preparing for long-term conflict? Are Donatra (of Borg)s whereabouts known?
...and perhaps Tier 7 reputation for fleshed-out alternative weapons?

The Constitution peer in-game is the Dhelan-class Warbird.

No the Dhelan is contemporary ( in lore not in game) to the Excelsior.
