Reward looks interesting, but i wish there was an option to go past 7 rounds to see if people actually learned how to use those fancy new ground toys we got last year.
Edit: One thing which eludes me is if this Sompek Energy rebounder is a kit or kit module. It feels like a kit module, but it is described as a kit.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
Whatever it is, at least it's not yet another thing that deals damage in all directions or shoots enemies without the player needing to do much.
We've had too much of that recently and it's turned ground missions into boring content where you might as well just look at the screen until armies of assimilated enemies, escorts, moving turrets and the like finish the content.
Especially cause most new content takes place on small maps where players have to remain in the same location for a long time.

It's the reason why i like the plasma turret from the colony.
While it is a 360 degree blast, it is a blast with the range of a shotgun so one has to be strategic where to put it.

From across the quadrants, Captains of all species and creeds understand the value of occasionally pushing themselves to the limits – to find out just how far their equipment, and their willpower, can take them, and just how much fight they can muster when the situation is at its direst. TRIBBLE your courage to its sticking place, and dive headlong into these classic tests of mettle – dare to face the No Win Scenarios.
This is a very powerful statement. You've been perfecting your build for years. The gear you use has been carefully chosen and upgraded. You've trained hard and are good at what you do. Now, after a meticulous pre-check of everything on your Captain you feel more than ready for anything the game can through at you. This is a rare opportunity to test yourself.
The Event version of the simulation ends after you complete Round 7.
As noted above, each has a fixed duration during this Event. Prior to the designated ending point, neither can be failed.
During this Event, the Untimed/Infinite versions of these TFOs will be temporarily disabled.
It is sad really: Outside of the event Sompek rarely pops these day and during the event it is limited to 7 rounds.

Kirk would << banned word >> the Cryptic servers to get the version he wants to play
lol yes he would have. I don't have that option but it's still time to prepare a few toons for participation in the event version. It's a good queue to play around with different kit modules.
ok question for those of us who have not done these. AOE yes or no? I have a toon where the kit modules all deal fair aoe strikes, Sompek lightning, cryto torped the flash freeze aoe... and ins space, Megawells, yes/no?

IMO Crowd Control is very useful for events like these. Megawells especially love target rich environments.

Sorry, you have that totally backwards for this event....It's the Kobayashi that loves crowding the enemies like a moth to the flames!
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

While I agree that the Kobayashi Maru is basically the Suicidal Lemming, if you drop a CC anomaly somewhere away from her it still works.
I still remember the OLD Kobayashi Maru. Dear god there were so many ships. And we didn't have all the fancy toys we have today. Best we had was T5 ships. Took my fleet many tries.
When we finally did it, it took 3 Wells, 1 Xindi-Reptilian, and 1 Vesta.
The KM actively trying to get killed is why I don't like that mission.
I prefer Sompek. You can have bad luck there too, like getting Tholians and their immobilising drones during a lightning round. But at least if you fail there (outside of events) it isn't because of the behaviour of some third party that is outside the players' control.

For ground this is the engineer I'm going to start with. She is AoE-ish yes. This toon as equipped was a lot of fun while playing Forged in Fire during the last event so will try it in Sompek.
Might add a remodulator or just carry a TR-116B as a secondary weapon in case the Borg show up.
Kit modules from left to right:
1. Crystal Prism -previous event reward
2. Anchor of Gre'thor - winter event store (needs 15 each Xmas Ornaments)
3. Gravity Containment Unit - Dsc Reputation. Pull the bad guys into your minefield lol... love this kit module
4. Chain Conduit Capacitor - exchange. Very nice and has a short cooldown. Chains to multiple targets
5. Chroniton Mine Barrier - crafted. Cyro Mine Barrier from Winter event store good also.
6. Ambush Turret - exchange. Really nice high output turret with a short cooldown.
Lots of Large Kit Overboosters (crafted) spam them
Easy to get kit modules like a Mortar and Turret work well too. Also had good luck with an Explosive Drone.

Now that is what I like to see; a damn find ground build, with a screenshot to boot, and extra links for even more ideas. Seeing as this will be my very first event like this, this is gonna be most useful I am sure. Good job @protoneous! Keep up the good work...
It's from 2018 so a bit outdated, but what is important is following the lines of thought for survival.
With that the basic setup can be easily achieved.
Sompek is as much about knowing the strength/weakness from you opponents as it is about survival tactics and throwing out loads of damage.
Two quick examples:
First:the borg adapt to energy weapons, but not to physical damage.
Secondly: Tholians get healed by radiation damage so beware which weapons/kit modules do radiation damage.

On the plus side, the Event version of Kobayashi Maru doesn't have a fail condition, so the captain's suicidal tendencies, while annoying, aren't a show-stopper...

It's very frustrating if you take the mission goal seriously. Since the captain is a suicidal moron it's almost impossible to meet the goal of keeping the eggshell maru from reaching minimum health.
I don't do it, but I fully understand people wanting to AFK. I won't be surprised to see my teams filled with jellyfish if I'm playing it instead of the arena for an endeavor.

Jellyfish + Megawell = potential devastation. Think the Jellyfish console is still pretty devastating right now. The problem is you also need mobility.
As for Sompek, I don't have a screenshot right now, but I'm either gonna run my Cryomancer Sci, Pyromancer Sci, or Drone Master Engie. Basically AoE spam or minion spam.
In fact it was a Sompek run years ago that inspired me to try Drone Master Engie as there were things flying around engaging things all over the map.
It is a shame that we can't tractor the Kobayashi Maru, cause I am sure that might mitigate some of the issues. Like, "NO! You stay there and don't die! Heel Dumbass!" lol...
IIRC you could heal KM though granted most of the time it takes more damage then you can heal thru but there's some consoles you can use to heal it to 100% and keep it there as long you stay near and with friends and a healing rotation you could theoretically keep KM at 100% for the most of the fight.

Good point. I've never played in premade teams or co-op so there's never been a reason to try putting together a support build. In TFO PUGs a damage build (weapon or exotic/science) is the only one that makes sense.
Question:
Are we supposed to be getting accolades when we run through Arena of Sompek? Off-season (about 3 days ago), I was able to get the accolades and the emote for enduring 21 rounds and getting to round 23. Today, we're limited to 7 rounds.
I had one of my characters go through 3 runs, and she did not unlock the emote.
Is getting the accolades and the emote only possible off-season, outside of the event?
The ship survived with about 70% of her hit points. Probably because few attackers survived long enough to hit her much. (Fortunately, the PUG seemed to recognize that the Doomsday Machine is a hazard, not an opponent, and didn't waste time shooting at it.)

During the event, only the 7 round Sompek version is available and the regular version required for the accolades is not.

The reason Sompek only lasts 7 rounds during the event is because players regularly would organize to just clear the minimum number of rounds to get credit, then wipe. As a tradeoff, they have allowed access to Sompek year round without the limited rounds for those who wish to experience the FULL Sompek experience and work on titles, accolades, and getting the Sompek Dance.
