IIRC and depending how you define that isn't there like 2-3 ship types that fit that description?
True, in the show there are the Qoj, the Tlhapqa' and the Veqlargh classes which look almost exactly the same (and the Qatlh which looks rather similar), but in STO isn't only one of those (the Qoj) implemented?

Yes, although it is classified as the BortaS'blr as an NPC, however the Battleship classification in game is shared with at least two other designs, the Cleave and Chargh.

While the Chargh is a temporal warship for us, I believe the version flown by Mo'kai forces is an intel battleship. But still, I'm not sure whether it's the Chargh, the Bortas, or both that use Viral Impulse. They both have Surgical Strikes as listed abilities, so they're both intel ships.
Its all three. Pretty sure the Battleships all share a similar "moveset" AI wise. And House Mo'kai uses a lot of intel abilities.

I've been getting hit by that the last couple days in Ponies over Pahvo, but it's almost always more help than hurt. By the time I'm close enough to get hit by it, I've thrown out my GW3 and my VCIS3, launched a walloping great spread of torpedoes, and I'm actually more than happy to "exit, stage left!" at flank speed.
Hanging around to exchange broadsides with a battleship at point-blank isn't usually a good idea for a little Science Vessel.

Yeah it kind of depends on the ship you're flying as my ship on the other hand is not only perfectly content at exchanging broadsides it's actually built for a close in slugging match.
Granted said slugging matches don't tend to last long when I hit them with Beam Overload as 2 full broadside salvos pretty much destroy the shields of the battleships and causes significant hull damage, on cruisers 1 salvo does the same and frigates are nearly dead after the first salvo (assuming all ships are undamaged before I get to them)

Took me a while to realize that Engineering Team clears it. Frankly, it should be removed.
Knowing how to counter it is important. Annoying it may be, but if everything was removed, there'd be nothing to fight. *shrug*
I'm not making a blanket statement, only saying this particular ability is a gratuitous irritant. Also I don't appreciate having to use my primary healing ability to clear it.

The same argument can be applied to other things as well. That's the point I was trying to make. Viral Impulse Burst today, Subnucleonic Beam Tomorrow, Subnucleonic Carrier Wave the next day...
There are a lot of annoying abilities that need a certain ability to clear. Start calling for the removal of one, and it could snowball from there.
Annoying? Perhaps. But again, knowing how to counter it is better than calling for its removal.

Is there a way to resist or stop the ability from sending you flying off to .... where ever.
As others have said Engineering Team. I think one of the Pilot Abilities also clears it. But more importantly (especially if you are encountering it in waves during patrols) the fastest way to clear it is to kill the mob that's putting it on you before it goes off. Because I have found in certain patrols, especially Rescue and Search, you will get hit with it faster than you can cleanse it. So it becomes easier just to blow things apart.

That's a bit of a double edged sword too. Because Rescue and Search doesn't have a limit on how many waves can spawn. Its an invisible timer. Depending on your DPS you could have two waves or many. And each wave does have at least one Battleship.
BUT... if you can stay at least 5 km out from the Battleship you might be in a better position because Viral Impulse Burst is an AoE centered around the ship using it. If you're out of range when it goes off, you don't get hit.

You can also slot Iconium shield, clears one debuff every 10s. Fresh from R&R space trait, Space reputation Landry's Loyalty clears one every 7.5s.
Attack pattern Omega makes you immune.
Aux to damp makes you immune to the other Intel annoyance but I don't think it effects viral.
Depending on the character, I've generally just been using either Suppression Barrage to stall them in their tracks so they can't get close enough to use it or circle around when using an attack ship, to take out the battleships first before sweeping towards the rest of the ships. (I find mokai ships are eager to blast past you/'re firing arc if you approach them head-on. It's better to circle around and go for a flanking attack. It baits out their VIB and disable-spam before you start your firing cycles.)
