there should be a crate with ev suits spawning at the beginning of the cave, and it isnt happening. i restarted the mission several time and left the cave.

my character switches to a default suit automatically, but my away team just keeps their armor on and drops dead. i cant switch for them manually either since they technically dont have a suit yet.

what am i doing wrong?

They should have EV suits from the second you get them at the start of the game per character.

I've been through that part with 4 toons now, and they've always had suits ready to go. The only time I've had equipment crates was in certain parts of the delta arc.

they dont have EV suits. and its not like i threw them out or did anything else.

there used to be a crate with common quality EV suits for you and your bridge officers in that cave. i also played that mission several times on different toons.

my guess is they might have removed that with the introduction of the EV suit slot, where it acts like a default EV suit without stats if you dont have anything equipped in there.

problem is, that while my character switches automatically to that default suit (he doesnt have one equipped either), my bridge officers dont. they just stay in armor and die.

You're not doing anything wrong. That episode is bugged.

As you said, the BOFFs should be automatically toggled to EV suits also... but they're not. In that specific episode; all the other EV suit episodes are working fine.

And yes, the EV suit crates were disabled as being unnecessary.

well thats just great. so i cant just grab a bunch of suits from a different episode then?

Not the generic suits, no. The special Solanae ones in "Step Between Stars" are still there, though. You can also get some via the Nukara reputation boxes. Or if you have lifetime, the free lifetime suits are still claimable.

i solved it by buying the ones from the dil stopre. theyre like 100 dil right now. but thanks anyways.

Here's a little cheat to equip your Boff's. The next time you run 'A Step Between Stars" when you go to take the EV suit, you can keep claiming it. So claim it, put it on a BOFF, Claim it, Put it on a Boff, etc. You can put your whole team in Solanae suits in one run.

I suspect the problem is that BOFFs won't switch to an EV suit unless they have one equipped *OR* the game auto-toggles one for them. Since the game no longer provides any of the basic EV suits, switching your captain to one before heading into the caves won't get them to swap to an EV suit unless they're wearing one, and this mission doesn't trigger the auto-toggle for EV suits, so BOFFs won't use the default EV-suit ability either.

It's bizarre how little testing they did on the EV-slot system that a problem this obvious didn't get caught and fixed before it went live.

It's definitely a QA fail since there are only a small number of story episodes that use EV suits. I'm too lazy to count but I'd guess less than 10.

Testing it doesn't even require finishing the story episodes, just going far enough into them to check all areas that require suits.

You're not doing anything wrong; the episode is glitched. However, this should really be over in the Gameplay Bug section, and probably merged with my post there.

Unfortunately, until they fix this, you'll have to grab EV suits from either different episodes, the Nukara daily missions, or the dilithium store. For now, skip the missions in question (The Power Source + Secrets of the Ancients), grab EV suits outside of the continuity, and THEN you can re-enter the missions once you have the required EV suits.

I second what faelon here said; my preferred EV suits for my primary characters are the Solanae EV suits. Depending on which route you choose (have Tuvok activate either the sentries, the beams, or no defenses), it will allow you access to one of 3 Solanae EV suits (beams = Marksman, sentries = Enforcer = no defense = Striker).

I just ran it with Boff's that had the Rommie EV suits equipped, and some of them switched to suits before I did. So whatever it is, it seems centered on the default generic suit they are supposed to have.

Oh and Surprise Surprise! The Lighting has been fixed! It's no longer nothing but lava fire bloom causing your GPU to melt down. Everything seems back to working normally, more or less.

Well, the lighting is fixed for those specific 2 episodes (The Power Source and Secrets of the Ancients). The ungodly, blinding bloom is in Sphere of Influence and maybe Blood of Ancients.

And I envy you for having the Lifetime Subscription.

People, please forgive me for this, but I'm going to have to say this a second time:

Moderators, I believe this thread needs to be moved over to the Gameplay Bug Reports section.

The best way to convey this is to flag the original post (last I heard as "spamming" so it is given medium priority, not the higher priority flaming/trolling ) then move on. Posting calls for moderation as replies can look like criticism or even an attack to some people so just flagging keeps things more calm and civil. This is just a suggestion, I'm not a mod myself.

    I don't know...

The thought of me flagging the original post makes me feel as if I'm doing something malicious to someone.

Calling for the moderators in your post is doing the same thing, except publicly for everyone to see.

If you flag it as spamming the mods will take a look when they get to it and either move it or not. The same when you see a post that you think has some other problem that is against forum rules, they'll edit or close or do nothing.

Flagging doesn't get someone in trouble, most of the time it at most gets a post edited or a thread closed.

(Disclaimer: I am not a mod.)

You can make a note when you flag a post to explain. If a provided category doesn't fit, you say that whatever you select doesn't apply and give the true reason, IE request to move or tag as Necro. On the other hand you can also just tag a mod via @(insert name) in your post and we're get a notification. Might not be quite as visible as actually flagging a post, but it does work. Just asking for a mod in a thread without any method of actually getting our attention doesn't mean we'll see it.

    Anyways...
