An off the wall question...can it be ship tailored? or is it just a single shape?

No extra parts, just the one shape, but it CAN use the JJPrise hull material if you own both ships, same with the Vengeance materials I think but I can't remember for sure. I know for a fact that the JJPrise can use the Vengeance materials and vice versa just like the JJPrise and Einstein can use each other's materials.

It's weird, but generally speaking the more expensive it is to get the ship(lockbox, promo, etc), the less customization options are available.

IMO, any costly ship should have more options, not less.

    No parts changes, just skin.

I got the ship, it's a lovely little monster. :)

They should release a 2411 version of that ship.. more options..

Wish they'd use the model as a template and give us the Saladin and the Mayflower.

They cannot do the Saladin class because the design is owned by Franz Joseph, not CBS. And because of a feud that started between Roddenberry and Joseph that carried over to Paramount it is highly unlikely that STO could get permission to use it while operating under a license from CBS.

On the other hand, they could probably get permission from CBS to use the Jupp class, which is a Constitution class saucer with two movie-style nacelles mounted on a small crossbar at the base of the neck instead of a secondary hull, if they wanted (but they apparently don't want to judging by their disdainful comments about all the DS9 kitbashes except for the Centaur).

Well, ST Fleet Command uses the Saladin, as well as the Mayflower. :o

I think the KT Saladin might not fall under the rights issue. After all, Franz Joseph can't keep you from glueing a nacelle to a saucer. The Kelvin itself isn't that different. STFC's Saladin is much smaller though, probably because they also scaled the Kelvin as big and made Mayflower and Saladin smaller sister ships, like the Cheyenne or New Orleans are using scaled down Galaxy parts.

I'm keeping my anniversary box soecificly for the 'heavy destroyer', but I won't start my Kelvin character until they make DSC Tellarites playable. 🐽😄

The Einstein class is not a problem, it isn't a Saladin so it has nothing to do with Franz Joseph Designs ships. You can copywrite specific ship designs but not generalities like 'one nacelle and a saucer'. For that matter, the Einstein does not even use that configuration since it has two nacelles even if only one of them is an engine.

If you mean the computer (not mobile) version of STFC it would make sense that they use the Saladin class because it is based on Star Fleet Battles, which in turn gets its Star Trek license from Franz Joseph, not Paramount Television (now CBS Studios).

Of course, the feud may be over and forgotten by now, but if so that still means that STO would have to license the Saladin from Franz Joseph Designs since CBS does not own it, and STO has been burned by that kind of the thing in the past so it is not as likely they would do it then otherwise.

What's always bugged me about the Einstein-class in STO is the ship's registry design.

It has those circular highlighted spots, which is a neat concept, but it's poorly executed & miss aligned with the letters/numbers for whatever a player chooses in a name.

It looks cheaply done &/or in a hurry & is lesser quality than usual for STO imo.

I like its more "simplistic" design, but prefer to use the D7 counterpart because of that Einstein poorly done registry which Cryptic keeps ignoring.

    Agreed.

They usually say that it's too much work to create custom bridges and I can imagine the same is true for extra parts. But that's not really a good excuse if the ships are also 6 to 7 times as expensive on average. In my opinion.

There are exceptions however. Off the top of my head...
    • Inquiry (compatible with Avenger and Arbiter)
    • Crossfield (Compatible with Mirror, Legendary, and Refit)
    • TOS D7, T'liss, and Connie (compatible with all their respective lines and their legendaries)
    • DSC Connie (compatible with Mirror, legendary, and has alternate nacelles on its own)

However most promo ships are generally not associated with any variants, like the La Serina or Kelvin.
