It makes sense since there are canon examples, Tendi from the Prime universe, that red headed one from the Kelvin Timeline/Universe and there's some in the Terran Empire in mirror universe episodes of ENT as background characters.

Just curious but anyone think playable Orions for the Federation faction (player characters and BOFFS) is a good idea?
Would be nice, however I feel like this would cause a riot unless the playable version was a c-Store unlock like Fed Klingons and KDF Trill.
It also might cause a drop in the number of new KDF characters made since so many of the KDF are Orion and some of those are sure to be done as KDF because that is currently the only way to make an "official" Orion.

why not add Ferengi to the KDF, there's plenty of them on Qo'noS already, make it like a trade off, KDF gets a race while Feds also get a race, making them both C-Store options makes sense since both societies value money.
You can already get one Orion BOFF, via the diplomacy DOFF commendation cross-faction BOFF reward.
They can't wear Fed uniforms though.
If you want Orion boffs with Fed uniforms it is easy enough to do with the "alien" boffs though they do not get the seduction abilities (player science captains can though using the "soothing pheromones" kit module so playing a Fed Orion captain is possible).
Also, it is possible for KDF Orions (or anyone else) to get something reasonably close to a Federation uniform using one of the winter jackets (I forget the name at the moment). I do that for my first Orion character, in the old FASA game she was Starfleet Intelligence and when I recreated her in STO it made sense that SI would shift focus from anti-pirate to wartime intelligence against the Klingons, with the sudden scramble of the Iconian war interrupting the Fed/Klingon war and the Alliance that resulted from it she has been stuck undercover to avoid a possible incident. Anyway, I use the uniform as a sort of roleplay thing sometimes though usually she is in native Orion garb.
You can also get something vaguely similar to Orion levels of skin showing using a few of the summer event clothing that shows up in "off duty" if you go the "alien" chargen Orion route and want to dress them a little more like traditional Orions.
