Concern Regarding Changing Email Providers

First, backstory.
I've been playing since pre-Arc off and on. I still have the actual physical disc and, out of habit and sheer orneyness, use it to install the launcher to play STO instead of going through the Arc launcher.
I've also been using the same email provider for about twenty years. That email provider has just announced that they are discontinuing service at the end of August. This means I had to find a new email provider.
I've already gone into my account on the site and changed my old email to my new email and validated it. But, when I went to log into STO, where it says "username/email address" in the launcher, I typed in my new email and the game said no such account existed. I typed in my old email and the game is updating right now.
I'm concerned, since the launcher seems to refuse to recognise my new email for my login - though it sends me to the website which does recognise it properly - will this affect my playing of the game in any way?
(Honestly, my big concern is something happening to the event items/ships I've collected and the ships I've bought for Zen (and real money) over the years. I don't want to lose any of them...)
