For one example SAD is useful for Carriers, a KDF officer can get it for around 10-15 Million from the EC, a FED needs either immense Luck or at least 800 Million for the Mirror universe attack wing escort to get the trait on ONE char. So i could equip 70-80 KDF chars with that trait or 1 Fed. Same goes for other traits. Things that one char aquires should be unlcoked for all so that creating multiple cahracters and actively playing them becomes easier and more fun.
I am inclined to agree. Of particular note is the Emergency Weapon Cycle trait, which I make a point of getting save for on Sci builds. It's highly useful, but obtaining it for every single character is the very essence of tedium.
'Where No Man Has Gone Before', Lt. Kelso removes a Console from the Delta Vega Lithium Cracking Station for use on the Enterprise. It fit like a glove. Looks like interoperability to me.
With the 'Faith of the Heart' Bundle, the NXs Console and Trait becomes A C-Store unlock for KDF Characters. Even though it is purchasable from the Lobi Store for KDF Characters, on an individual Character basis normally. The Bundle changes that paradigm.
Also, note that with some C-Store Ships, exclusive to a Faction, unlocking a Ship Trait on the Ship by a Character of the appropriate Faction, makes it availible, via the Dilithium Store to Characters of other Factions. That was used primarily for Ships from the Delta Rising Operations Pack, and has not been used much since.
Also, note the Tier 6 Account-wide Ship Traits availible from Ships in Legendary Bundles.

I feel like that will hurt reason to play certain factions...
This... Traits are unique to the faction many times, (there are some cross faction ones, but those have a place in lore or simply cause Cryptic wanted to sell a ship years later that ended up having the same trait.) and are unique to the character. I would think having the ability to use traits from my Fed, on my Rom, or my KDF would be kinda dumb...
The only thing I would like to have is an account bank that I dont have to pay for - so I can send Faction spec stuff I find on my most played toon to my others. But traits and such I like being separate - makes each character mean more that way in my opinion.
Picard and his gang of misfits (Commander Quagmire, his sometime-girlfriend Counselor State-the-Obvious, Pinocchio aspiring to be a real boy, a blind helmsman, and Microbrain, not to mention Doctor I'm-here-as-a-thinly-veiled-love-interest-for-the-captain-and-otherwise-have-no-real-purpose and her son Annoying Boy Geekwiz)
I support the idea because I am sick of paying billions of EC for Traits..
That being said, I don't ever expect this to happen. Simply put, the fact that people buy expensive ships for traits means Cryptic makes money off it. They sell keys and promo packs to people trying to get those traits and that probably generates a good bit of revenue.. I don't see them giving that up. Even someone like me that just earns EC in game, it keeps me playing which is good for their 'metrics.'
There is also the issue that it would detract from some factions. One of the big advantages of playing a KDF character right now is the low price on something like Superior Area Denial compared to that of a Fed aligned character. KDF side needs all the boosts they can get, so taking that way is not a great idea.
Overall, while this suggestion for my own benefit.. it would be great for a lot of us, it's never going to happen.

Previously they would put cross faction traits into the lockbox. Then I think they started putting the older ones into the DL store as you unlocked them. Can still find some Reciprocity boxes on the Exchange and in the Infinity Box if you pick that. With ship sets sharing traits its been less of an issue if you got the equivelent ship for that side. But there still are a few that are faction specific.

Please note, this is only availible in the C-Store for KDF Characters if you purchased the 'Faith of the Heart' Bundle. There are no other examples of this, at this time.

Well they love artificial scarcity thinking it drives sales. I'm sure some people do buy certain box ships just for the traits. I look at them and think it would be nice to have that, but since its on a box ship I may as well forget it exists. Obviously as they put these ships into MUDDs store it offers some way to get them accountwide, but its still ridiculously expensive if you just want the trait.
Beyond that I do think that if you unlock a trait say across 5 characters, then it should just be accountwide unlocked. How many times do I really need to unlock Emergency Weapon Cycle? It is largely rhetorical at this point, and the whole process of stripping a ship and outfitting a new one I'm only going to keep for one or two patrols just to earn a trait (and do it for every trait I want) is really pointless. Those of you with a handful of characters don't necessarily understand that pain, but when you're at 15+ its just insane.
or once its done by a toon, charge 25k dil to unlock per toon after as long as they have claimed the associated ship with that trait.
So pay DL for a trait you can already earn on an account unlock ship?
I've been able to level a ship fully with two patrols.
I think I'd rather spend some DL on traits that aren't as easy to get, like on promo or lockbox/lobi ship traits.

I think the bigger issue would probably be hardcore meta players pushing for this or that. Gotta get that last decimal point of performance out of everything, and if you don't do that, you suck.
Players like that drive me up a wall. But then again... pretty sure everyone knows that about me by now. lol
They'll never do that (or they'll place it behind a monied paywall) because they still want you to play the game (IE - even now only about 10% of the playerbase spends any real money -- but if the game goes 'dead' (IE no others online playing) the chance of the 90% turns into one of the 10% goes down; so requiring you to level a ship per character (to unlock the trait) is how they make sure you're in game running things like STFs, etc. that keep others interested in playing as well.

Correct me if i am wrong, but other than promotion ships and lobi ships are not ALL traits already account unlock?
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

I think many of the newer ones are yes. Some of the older ones like Reciprocity I think are still via lockbox. Mostly affecting most of the initial faction specific ones from back in Delta Rising.

Yes and no.
If the trait is on a C-Store ship then yes.. any character on the account can claim that ship and unlock that trait.. provided that they are the proper faction. I have 'Re-Directing Arrays' from the Tucker class, so all my feds can unlock it if they want it. My KDF however, cannot because I stupidly didn't just get the Romulan one (to be fair, Romulan ships weren't available to everyone at the time of purchase.)
I actually think it would be cool if they allowed me to spend Dilithium per character to unlock that trait on my Klingons. If the player already owns the ship of the other faction, a Dilithium cost to unlock just the trait would be a nice Dilithium Sink. Unfortunately, it once again flies in the face of their finances since they want you to purchase another 3k Zen ship for the other faction. Some lock box ships even sell the trait and gear in faction separate boxes, this idea would kill that market as well.
It's a good idea, but again.. it's another good idea that I just don't see Cryptic getting behind.

The only 'new' ones that were account wide (once unlocked on one character of the proper faction) were special traits attached to the Legendary Ship Anniversary 10 pack - but those still weren't the same ones you got for Lvl V on the ship itself - they wwere special ones at LvL VI. If y9ou wanted the Lvl V trait from an Anniversary pack ship, you still had to get that ship to LvL V on the actual character.

For account wide ships its not too bad. One (or 2) runs of the Ninth Rule patrol will get the trait unlocked. As for single character bound ships; I wish they were account bound so you could drop them in your account bank and swap to other alts to get the trait. I've given up on buying non-Cstore ships. Just not worth it when that Captain will move on to a new ship at some point and then that expensive ship is just taking up a drydock slot.
I support the idea because I am sick of paying billions of EC for Traits..
Same. I have some very expensive traits on my main and I refuse to spend resources to get them on my secondary characters. The result of this is that I only use my main now and all my other characters get zero attention. Every once in a while I get on one of them with the intention of bringing them up to speed only to realize I'm missing a couple key traits and decide to scrap the idea.
So...its a double edge sword for me on this. They need to do it because they have already released some DPS must have traits for one faction ONLY...but if they do it, it will be more reason to make stuff just for that one faction. If they did not have such a clear faction bias, I would endorse this more enthusiastically...but what they did with the Romulans clearly shows otherwise.
Frankly, I think they've got the basic system already set up: the Jem'hadar ships are initially restricted, but you can work towards unlocking them for everyone else. Obviously, it doesn't take nearly as much as it should to unlock ships for cross-faction use, but the basic idea is sound enough. Just a question how time- and resource-prohibitive they want to make unlocking a ship for cross-faction use. I mean, if it takes a month of dedicated playtime to unlock a single ship, that's not something most players are just going to do 'just because.' They'll do it for a couple of their favorite ships at most. But it at least gives the option, for those players who want to pursue it.
That only works if there is an acceptable race in each faction to grind the lock off the ships, and for many the Dominion lacks that. Some people (myself included) find playing playing a character that they cannot get into the head of to be tedious instead of fun.
The Jem'Hadar are a very niche race, STO's entry for the starts-at-endgame races fad that were so popular a few years ago, with little or no roleplay potential for the most part since in DS9 it is revealed that they have no past, real or virtual, since they are deployable within three days of the start of their creation and are programmed with only the raw skills they need for their job and no frills whatsoever in their wetware. They are pretty much a zero personality wise unless they survive long enough to develop one (and the five year old one that was used as the straightman for one of Dax's age jokes was nowhere near that stage yet though he had the very beginnings of it).
On top of that, every single time they showed the bridge of a Dominion ship in DS9 it was commanded by a Vorta, not a Jem'Hadar so people who like to stick to canon are stuck with only the two or three Dominion ships that do not have that lock since the only way to make Vorta in STO is to use the alien generator from another faction, and so they cannot grind the lock off.
Also, they are genderlocked even if that gender is technically "none" like those Dominion meat droids are since they all look like one gender, and genderlocking is nearly always a sour point with a lot of players unless they come out in matched pairs like BDO usually does (like for example the Ninja/Kunoichi or Maehwa/Musa etc. pairs).

i have recycled many toons, dumped many recently, and now have one on each side - fed, kdf, that i play oon a regular basis, aside from that, i use the few i have left as storage toons etc. (and yes one romm i play, but not often - thats for you cold)
i find i cant keep up with multiple toons anymore, let alone find the amount of time many other 'seem' to have.
I know what you mean, back when I only had a few I would play all of them all the time, now that I have around thirty characters spread around two accounts I don't try to do that, I usually play one or two from each account for a while then switch to others as the mood strikes, depending on which personality and/or situation/technical setup I feel like playing at the time.
Overall though, it really does not matter to me if they make the traits grind-once to use for all or not since I try most of the ships I have on each character at some point anyway, and I like to try different things instead of just finding the absolute best in slot stuff and using that same setup for everything.
The only time it would make any difference at all to me is on the few captains who's backgrounds are tied specifically to one ship to the point were using another does not make sense. The "hiding out" part of the Klingon civil war thing was a good non-immersion breaking reason to change ships btw, since it could be passed off as a holodisguise or temporary ship with the main one hidden away somewhere.

As for consoles, thats different. Some are indeed locked to ships, for example the Leg. Mirror Dread... Its got one console with abilities that cannot be put on any other ship except ones of the same type so to speak.. https://sto.gamepedia.com/Console_-_Universal_-_Molecular_Cohesion_Nullifier
