I am not happy about the forced change of the inventory minimum row width now being 10 items. It has completely screwed up the manual sorting I had for 25 characters that were all at 8 wide and had been for YEARS all in the name of some sort of "value added benefit" of a pull down menu for the maybe 10 people in game who actually use it. TRIBBLE YOU CRYPTIC! Wasn't asked for OR wanted by the silent majority of players.
And on another note previously mentioned in this thread. REALLY a calendar is too much for your team to figure out. Where are you hiring your people? From Devry?
How phucking phunny that they edited FU Cryptic to Tribble You. REALLY starting to wonder why I spend any of my time on this game anymore.``
I'm not perma-offended, just severely annoyed by the fact that they messed up my carefully sorted inventory, when inventory management can be a major challenge in this game.
I have often used a width narrower than needed to display all tabs. In that case, there were arrows to let you scroll back and forth between the tabs.
I'm still on 4x3 displays (1280x1024), and with my ship/boff window on the left, inventory now always covers slots for my ships and boffs. So, if I'm switching ships for mastery, I can easily drag stuff into my inventory, but putting it on my new ship involves dragging it onto a visible slot, bringing the ship window to the top, and then putting the console/weapon in the rightmost slot.
It's not a deal breaker, but it's the opposite of a quality of life improvement.
I've had my inventory set to 8 wide for quite awhile now. I expect to be somewhat annoyed by this change. Ah, well.
(Of course, this is an internet forum, so reactions ar required to be written in 150% Blazing Hyperbole Mode™, so.... "AAAAAAAA! OMG, WORST THING EVAR!11!!1one!" /cough. Wow, that's hard on the throat.)
edit: oh, right - forgot the other Standard Silly Internet Complaint. "This change breaks my immersion!" /facepalm
Ok, having actually gone in-game and looked at it.... yeah, not a fan. And I suspect I might have even had it less than 8 wide before - it really feels like its taking up a huge chunk of screen space when open.
One big issue I have with it - it's very visually busy. With that many columns of all those detailed item icons, it's hard to parse. It turns into a lot of noise. Kind of like when a page of text is too wide and the lines are too long (plus Wall Of Text issues).
And until this came up, I didn't even realize there were filters at the top of the Inventory window. Huh.

All joking aside though, this issue seems to have brought the perma-offended out of the woodwork.
No kidding. I used to just have it at 8 wide myself. Now its at 10 wide. Eh. Whatever. I'll adapt. I don't have to rearrage my R&D tabs on more than one character anyways.
I just don't understand the thought process of "They tweaked the inventory window, now my game is unplayable because I have a 10 wide inventory screen now".

It just... WTF people?! Every time something changes, someone's gotta Kneejerk like its the end of the frakkin' UNIVERSE! And it doesn't matter WHAT changes, someone's gotta Kneejerk their desk in half because reasons! WTF?!
Every time I see these kneejerk reactions literally the SECOND something changes... this is me:
I mean even when there's a good reason for a change, we get those Kneejerks and I'm sitting here like "wha?"
Honestly feels like if the Kneejerk reactions got their way we'd roll back to how the game was back in 2012. Oh wait! They'd complain about that too!
Dear god... I know you can't please everyone... but seriously? Of all the things you can rage post about... its Inventory size? *facedesk*

Pretty sure my response would be as reasonable as I usually am and not just kneejerk pitchfork out of the blue. I'm more of the "give time to develop so we know more" type.
Though this be madness, yet there is method to it.
Honestly I don't get the meltdown some are having.
Lets just wait and see what comes up rather than hit the panic button.
You mean you don't understand the anger about this catastrophic, totally game-breaking, bug that was FORCED upon us and has brought STO to its knees and ruined the game for the rest of its natural life?
At least that would appear to be the case judging by some of the (over)reactions to this issue.
All joking aside though, this issue seems to have brought the perma-offended out of the woodwork.

If it doesn't bother you guys, fine, that's great for you. Why feel the need to belittle the people it does bother, for the valid examples people have outlined above?
You could have taken issue with the reasons people have given for their annoyance with this, or given reasons to advocate for the change Cryptic has made, but instead you just roll out stock troll labels - "perma-offended" and "kneejerks"? Oh, and a Jackie Chan meme for good measure...

I'm not belittling or anything. I'm just straight confused with why people kneejerk and blow it out of proportion. That's it. Annoyance I can understand, but going so far as to say it is literally game breaking?
Also I was in a bit of a hostile mood over some RL stuff and needed to vent. I apologize if I was a bit out of line in my wording.

Hey, no apologies needed
Those scenes with Jackie Chan dancing are from a movie called "Kung Fu Yoga". I saw the pic you posted and just had to share that video. I hope you liked the song.

My confusion over some of the reactions still stands though. I just don't get it. Why flip out?
I just... needed to vent all the pent up confusion and frustration that happens every time something changes and... well... you know.
Sometimes we all need a good vent session.
People playing on laptops and similar resolution screens can often be hard pressed to maximize their view of the various menus.
I can see how being locked into a 10 row minimum width for the inventory could be less than optimal for some.

Civil discussion is fine. Its when people just outright attack as if it was some great blasphemy and go dang near nuclear that problems come up.
I have no problem with expressing concerns. Its inflating said concerns into something they're realistically not that causes me to go WTF.
I understand some people may prefer a smaller inventory window. Hell... I had always had mine at 8 wide. I'm a bit annoyed that I can't go back to 8 wide, but its not the end of the world. Maybe its because I've got a decent sized monitor or something. I don't know. I just don't see how a minimum 10 wide inventory window goes from annoyance to full scale game breaking as... nothing's actually preventing you from playing the game. Its not like you're getting oneshot by frigates, yet people act like that is the case. And no one actually explains. Its just full attack mode with no explanation. Fangs out, no reason other than the appearance of rage for the sake of rage.
If they want to express their concerns... I'm all for it. Feel free. But please leave the nukes at home. Don't inflate it into some massive thing to use as an attack. Explain your reasoning. Keep it civil. Makes for far better, and more constructive, discussions that just jumping straight to the flamethrowers.

This is true, I do occasionally play on my laptop. Yes, this change makes my interface more cluttered on that display, but again.. it's a screen I have open like 5% of the time I am playing. So even this is kinda silly, most people don't play the game with their inventory screen open so if it takes up more of the screen, it just doesn't matter.
This is just people making a minor annoyance into a huge issue because they're overly dramatic attention seekers. A few people have calmly and rationally stated why they don't like this change which is fine.. the people blowing up are just being ridiculous.
Insert witty signature line here.

Now that makes sense. And actually highlights a legit concern with an actual reason.

Me being unreasonably reasonable?
Anyways... I'm glad someone else also noted the unnecessary drama that always comes up.
Lets get back to the actual subject and not the thought processes of various players. Give the Devs some constructive feedback.
In the meantime I need food.
It is not game breaking but it is a rather large annoyance.
My desktop has an ancient 1366x768 LCD monitor so even the combat UI is way too clunky and often covers most of my ship. And when things fall out of the ship into inventory or scramble on the hotbar it will mean even less visibility at the start of TFOs since there will not be room to have the countdown visible along with the inventory and powers menus up while scrambling to fix the stuff.
When I am on the ground tinkering with the ship or whatever the entire screen ends up covered in overlapping screens and it is quite annoying to have to keep rotating all the mess up to the top to do anything.
I used to constantly adjust the size of the inventory floater because it was less annoying to use the scroll bar than it was bringing it to the top. Also, during the cadet event I would keep an eye on the tokens by shrinking it down as far as possible while doing the particle scan/collection/combat stuff. Seriously, they need something better than just the silent message with that thing to let players know when they have hit purple quality number of tokens, like having the scanning stop working. Doing that with the window at 10 wide will just make that mind-numbing grind event even more of an annoyance.
And just to be clear, it is not 'game breaking' or anything but it is a definite degrade in quality.

Heya, Smoke! How have you been, and why no pictures lately? Are you and your muse not talking right now, or have you just agreed not to discuss STO?
