Federation T6 recommendation

bigduke66bigduke66 Member Posts: 19 Arc User
Hi
I need recommendations for a Federation T6 ship as I'm lost in the mass of possible ships
Must have:
- Federation ship(not race specific like a Tellarite or Catian ship)
- No hangar pets
- No science ship
With regards

    Cruiser or Escort?

I'd recommend the Arbiter Battle cruiser. It's basically a cruiser/escort hybrid.

In my experience, I would suggest the Arbiter or Guardian.

Arbiter's got some good punch and comes with a very nice trait.
    Guardian is well balanced.

I prefer the look of the Guardian, but the Aribter has the 5:3 layout and "Emergency Weapon Cycle" is a nice trait.

the Arbiter is a solid cruiser with a very beloved trait.

the Narendra/ambassador is a flexible cruiser with a powerful trait that work for pretty much any ship.

Gagarin is one of the best energy weapon dps ships in the game with a good trait.

though really go with whatever is your favorite ship is and we can help you make it work.

The Arbiter has a great trait and is a cruiser.

I also like the multi-mission explores with the voyager skin. Extremely so if a sci toon.

When the Guardian first came out, I was able to transfer almost EXACTLY my Assault Cruiser build onto her. Almost because she actually had a Lt. Cmdr Sci rather than a Lt. For me the BOff layout fit like a glove for my playstyle. The trait was lackluster.

Completely forgot about the Gagarin. Very good ship. If I didn't have some of the other KDF ships I have, I'd probably fly the KDF counterpart a lot more.

    Gagarin

Excellent ship, excellent starship trait. At Fleet level, it's got as much firepower, if not more, than most escorts while also being able to take more punishment.

Arbiter, the trait is a 'must have.'

The Gagarin is an overall better ship, but the Arbiter has the trait that pretty much every energy weapon build uses. If you can only get one C-Store T6 ship, it should be the Arbiter.

It also happens to be a great ship.. the Gagarin overall is better, but the Arbiter Trait keeps it at #1.

The Faeht is a lot quicker turning and somewhat faster than the Shran, I was surprised at just how nimble that ship is. It is a bit fragile though. And of course it is not Federation so it is a bit off the subject...

I popped in here to give a reasoned explanation of why the Arbiter would be a fantastic choice. Everyone above combined said everything I had to say. So. Yep. Arbiter. :)

I was long struggling with what to do with the free t6 coupon from the campaign, but my struggle came from a few extra requirements that *FAR* fewer ships meet: a decent all-ships universal console (ship-specific consoles are quite common), a decent starship trait (even if limited in applicability), and not part of any bundles that are even better (that knocks out a bunch of ships). In the end, I opted for Gagarin, which is part of a bundle but wildly overpriced for what it offers, so I'd never buy it anyway. Decent console, decent trait, and, well, it looks good, imo (not a requirement but nice, after flying 31st ships for a long while). I'm sure there are better ships that don't meet 1 or more the requirements, but I had a hard time finding one that met them all.

A solid choice, but just a note.. the Arbiter also meets this qualification.

I do agree with most that the Gagarin is a slightly better overall ship. It's a full Miracle Worker ship which is fantastic and the extra console is nice as well.

It's a tough choice between these two ships because as good as the Gagarin is, the Arbiter has the Emergency Weapons Cycle Trait which can massively benefit literally any energy weapon build. It's also nice that they recently made the Ablative Hazard Shielding console truly universal so you can use it on any ship. For newer players looking for a little bit of extra survivability, that's a pretty great console. While the Gagarin's trait is also pretty good.. it's use is limited to mixed beam/torp builds as to where the Arbiter Trait is better overall and benefits any energy weapon build.

Ideally, the best choice would be use the free coupon on the Arbiter, fly that for a bit and then wait for a C-Store sale (they happen every other day) and buy the Gagarin. Then run the Arbiter Trait on the Gagarin and enjoy. If you're not running a Beam/Torp build, you could even buy the Arbiter and then progress to Tier 6 on your Reputations. Once you do that, you can claim a free Fleet Module from each. If you don't need the Gagarin Trait, you would just use the free modules on a Fleet Gagarin and you would have a 12 console, full miracle worker ship with the Emergency Weapon Cycle trait and the Arbiter Console (if you need it) for free.

Honestly though, if you only buy one ship and you're picking between the Arbiter and the Gagarin you're going to get it right either way. They're both great ships and they're both excellent picks for your 'one C-Store Ship' choice.

I think it was the console that ruled out Arbiter. Better trait, worse console. Durability in STO is spotty. Anything that actually tests your durability will have no problem eating through anything a 'durability' console can offer, so they just don't help. And, of course, anything that doesn't test your durability, you're better off simply destroying outright.

Totally agreed, I am definitely of the mindset where overwhelming offense is your best defense. I don't personally use the Arbiter Console (if it doesn't up damage I seldom use it) but sometimes newer players playing normal content find it useful. Still, a valid point indeed.

It sounds a bit like you're considering traits and consoles to be of equal value and they really aren't. Starship Traits are a much greater source of power than any individual console, and there are a handful of traits that fall into "must have" with the Arbiter's trait literally being the top of that list. Emergency Weapon Cycle is a part of literally every energy weapon based build.. and that's not even hyperbole... it's so good that it really should be retired as a starship trait and its functionality included in EP2W directly as it just locks out one of your trait slots.

I consider it an easy choice if you're ever going to have only one C-Store ship it should be the Arbiter. Ships will come and go but until they retire EWC it will long outlast your use of the ship or anything else that came with it. Even in terms of performance, using the same basic equipment, an Arbiter with EWC will outperform a Gagarin without it.
