    No.

WoW and FFXIV charge $120 - 180 PER YEAR and $20+ for each content expansion in order to keep bringing you new content and keep the servers running.

Cryptic lets you play for $0 per year if you want to, and gave us 5 free T6 endgame ships last year. This year they will give us at least 4 more free endgame ships.

No, you can't have all the ships and costumes and whatever for free, but that is because STO is not a charity funded by some billionaire Trek fan.

Cryptic spends money to create new story and TFO content every year, using the real voice actors from the Trek shows. They pay writers, artists, programmers, IT and QA staff, etc.; They pay for the servers; they pay CBS a license fee.

A one-time LTS is not enough to cover that, especially since most players do not buy one.

Is it just me or wouldn't it make sense to listen to the collective census of all of the player's and "Give the people what they want?"7

No that would be a terrible idea. Because then everything would be free 24/7 and the game would die within days due to not being profitable.

That said, the idea that there's a "paywall" is nonsense. Every piece of story content and systems content is completely free. You never need to pay anything to continually play STO. Period.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

I'm not sure what you even mean by "paywall". As others have said, content is free. All the expansions have been free. The only things that aren't are the C-Store items and a Lifer sub.
And the things in the C-Store? You can grind out in game. It takes time and effort, and maybe some knowledge of dilithium sources and the patterns of the Exchange if you want THE MOST out of it, but other than that... the only thing you CAN'T get in game is a Lifer Sub. And even then I THINK on console you can get a Lifer Sub in the C-Store, and potentially for $0 out of your pocket if you're willing to work towards it via Dilithium Exchange.

So again... what paywall we talking about? Because if this is some kind of backdoor rant about the Legendary ship bundle... while I'm not happy I'm just gonna be patient and see what comes down the road.

100% agree. Since I started playing world of warcraft i've spent a little over 3000 dollars just on the sub fee thats not including xpacks mounts exs. Thanks to those people that spend money on star trek online you get to keep playing for free.

A couple of things here. First off, this isn't exactly a great start to your first post. Because you appear to be new here on the forums I am giving you a bit more leeway than I would normally otherwise. What you posted amounts to a rant. I suggest that you familiarize yourself with our community guidelines which you can find here: https://www.arcgames.com/en/forums/startrekonline/#/discussion/1191393/perfect-world-entertainment-community-rules-and-policies

And also familiarize yourself with the Frequently Created Threads list found here: https://www.arcgames.com/en/forums/startrekonline#/discussion/1245086/the-f-c-t-frequently-created-threads-list-2-0

Because of violations in the thread here I must close the thread and due to other reasons. However I am also going to do something I may not normally do when closing a thread like this. If you are having a hard time earning something in game you want such a ship or such. If you would like you may PM me and I will help you by teaching you some of the methods I use when I want to earn something from the free to play route.
