I wanted to start this new thread on Mudd's Market for discussion and feedback, so that it starts off with Ambassador's Kael's tweet regarding the new section of the C-Store. That way, folks who may be coming late to the discussion and do not want to read through the entire thread can easily find it and get caught up on what's going on. So , without further ado, here's Kael's tweet:
Essentially, the regular prices ARE the real prices. Yes, I know. They're ridiculously overpriced, and if you want to spend your Zen on the full price when sales are off, that is up to you. But sales will come regularly and percentages off may vary, so the idea is to keep checking the store for the sale that best suits you.
I know that some players have a certain feeling about how this has been handled/presented, but let's please keep the discussion civil and refrain from any wild speculation, slanderous remarks, and accusations of wrong-doing. This is something new that the devs are experimenting with and they are watching and listening to constructive feedback, so let's give it some time.
Once again, thank you all for being members of the Star Trek Online Forum Community.

8000 zen for the dino. 4000 for the emh, is that a joke?
+ i don't even know, if they have fixed the problem with the romulan toons and boffs who can't use it.
they are more expensive than a ship!!!!!!
these items should be in the phoenix store. I have grinded for these items, i don't even care if the newcomers could have them for free; (Flaming/trolling comments moderated out. - BMR)
even with an ultimate ugrade, these prices are ridiculous
"But Mudd follows the market, and there may be times where he has a lot of stock to unload, or he feels the demand is too low for an item. There will, without warning, be drastic sales on these items, so it’s important to check the Market every day to see if the item you’re seeking is on sale! "
[SIGPIC]Join Date: August 2009[/SIGPIC] I live in an alternate universe, where j.j. abrams and cryptic never existed,
where R.S.E. is what it always should be.
Items in Mudds Market seriously overpriced. Most of that use to be FREE - The cost you have listed there for ALL the items makes them unobtainable, I for one will NOT spend what you have listed for anything that use to be free.
At the current conversion of Dil to Zen, I WONT be making Zen anytime soon. Dil chest slams shut with a padlock at 350 per Zen I was actually considering 3 items prior to it going live, howeer, now, NADA!. I have not played since yesterday and following what happened in Mudd/s Market I find myself disinterested in playing at all and taking a break this weekend from the game other than admiralty *disgusted with that also* and the event *majorly disgusted with that also*!
Thanks for the reason to take the weekend off, I am enjoying my time away from doing missions.

Whales that almost certainly all have everything in that store - with the exception of the ship, depending on if they were fast enough to grab it the first time around.
Everything is massively overpriced - yes, even considering the UTP. And look, neither the EMH nor Holo Leet have it and still the price is 1k more than a damn ship? They've lost their minds.
If they wanted new players to have access to the old stuff - and by all means, a thousand times yes! - this is not the way to go.

OK, folks, we are not about to start making wild, unsubstantiated, and slanderous accusations here. Keep this civil or this thread will be closed like the last one.
That being said, we've already been in contact with the devs about this and the "regular" prices are supposed to be an in-universe reference to Mudd being a salesman/con man. We're hoping to get an official statement from them on Facebook/Twitter confirming this so that we can link it back here.
Please don't set fire to the forum. Thank you.

As usual, thank you for your quick response, BMZ, and for the info you provide.
I seriously hope that the actual prices are always those displayed as 75% discount, though they're still too high. Better than the "regular" prices, that's for sure.

Believe me, I had a similar reaction, as I checked the store as soon as it went live. I immediately got into our community team chat to ask what was up with that, because I could already foresee the forum reaction.

ok, in game or in the tv show, Mudd's is a salesman/con man, but why the prices in the cstore should reflect the personality of this guy?
A ) it's a theme store
B ) To get more zen from those who can't wait for sales, just like many stores in the real world.
I shop at Land's End, but never buy at list price since 30% - 40% off sales are common.
From the NEWS post:
"But Mudd follows the market, and there may be times where he has a lot of stock to unload, or he feels the demand is too low for an item. There will, without warning, be drastic sales on these items, so it’s important to check the Market every day to see if the item you’re seeking is on sale! "

Thanks for the quick info, but this isn't clear at all and there's no way to differentiate what is fluff text and what is actual information about the nature of the products and the sale. In several regions its flat out illegal to claim a sale is on on items that were never listed at that price.
I like the idea of the Mudd store. I've got a lot of the stuff, but on individual characters. I don't like gambling and I like account unlocks, a lot of this I'm fully on board with. But jeez those prices are absolutely ridiculous and there's no way I'm touching them - we thought the discovery set was poor value. (Though I think the FE rewards should be returned to missions).
This is Mudd's Market and the 'original' prices are obviously the joke on players and not to be taken seriously!
This is Mudd's Market and he is CON-MAN and the Market plays on it!
This is Mudd's Market and if folk read the in-game store description there is an actual 'warning' to players about the
'original price'!
I would expect that 'sales' may go further than what has been listed, as has been explained in the original web-post.
This is Mudd's Market and the Dev's have broken player's sense of humour!!
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
I suspect this will be a topic of discussion for an upcoming next livestream. At the very least, there will be questions.

The Fear of Missing Out effect is a strong one, and companies prey on this with fake sales. Its not a case of a humour malfunction, sales and the way they are presented are heavily legislated in many places including the EU for the reason I've just stated. This is a new system for the store that we don't fully know the mechanics of. Having false starting price info etc muddies the waters so to speak. Let's not forget, this isn't just a fun in game currency store, this involves an actual attempt to get people to spend actual money (and fair sums of it).

The problem with this is that, if it was meant to be a joke, is a really poor one.
Especially when you couple it with the "Only a sucker would buy this at full price so make sure you get one while a sile is on but be warned, you may never know when this item will run out!" phrase in the description of each item and this little bit from the news post:
"But Mudd follows the market, and there may be times where he has a lot of stock to unload, or he feels the demand is too low for an item. Even when the "regular" prices are clearly a joke, the real discounted prices are ridiculous for some of the items, namely, the ship, the FREE featured arc mission rewards, the devices, and the EMH.
I can understand for the BOffs (except the EMH, of course) as they're account-wide and apparently reclaimable at will (I EXPECT HOPE they are) instead of paying 500 Zen for each character, but 2,000 Zen for a device and an ultimate tech upgrade?
BTW, called it for the ultimate tech upgrades creeping their way into more packs to artificially increase and "justify" their prices.
This sounds like a bad idea out of the gate. However, I'm reminded of the Secret World and something they sold.
They had their own store currency which has an equivalent real world value to zen, 100 = $1. In their store there was one outfit set that was a shiny gold suit for over 10000 points normally. Yes, over $100 for an outfit as the normal price.
However now and then they had "golden weekends" where that outfit was 90% discounted which, coincidentally, put it at the price of a normal outfit. The idea, of course, is that you can get it any time you want if you want to spend a lot of money on the game or you can wait until one of those weekends where it is discounted and get it at a normal price.
It seems they may be trying something similar with Mudd. If you want it now, you pay out the nose, but wait for a sale and it will probably be a decent deal.

I will admit, the Free Episode/Event Devices items are way over-priced, but the price of everything is okay I suppose, however I will point out the price of the new Faction Elite Starter packs, which are 2k Zen, saving about 1.5k on the full price and it has a T6 in it!
